Evil communications corrupt good manners (1 Corinthians 15:33). Or

as we might say it, wrong thinking leads to wrong living. There are two philosophies set orth in this teenth chapter o rst

Corinthians. One is the prevailing attitude o the world and most especially

this generation. It proclaims, Let us eat and drink for tomorrow we die

(vs. 32). The world not only ascribes to that philosophy but has added its

own telling version, vis. Let us eat, drink, and be merr y, or tomorrow we

die. I t is the philosophy o narcissism, i it pleases me it is right, or in other

words, i it eels good, do it, and it has let everyone who has ever tried

it utterly void o meaning. Lie is cheap because lie is ull o sound and

ury, signiying nothing. Sound amiliar? Such a philosophy demands

nothing because it ofers nothing yet in practice it costs everything.

The second philosophy set orth in this passage is ound in verse ty-

eight, it calls orth the highest dedication and the most rigorous efort,

. . . be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the

Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

And on what basis does it make such demands? Upon the certain promise

o a resurrection rom out o death, a judgment which will reward every

deed perormed in the spirit o Christ, and an eternity o glory beyond

    our wildest imaginations.

As you read these words, you are operating under one or the other o

    these two philosophies. One demands little, but will cost you everything;

the other demands everything, but ofers more than you have ever

dreamed. Which one controls the way you live your lie right now? For

whosoever will save his lie will lose it, but whosoever will lose his lie or my

sake and the gospels, the same shall save it. For what shall it proft a man, i

he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?(Mark 8:35-36).(Dont

miss the article, Nationals Who Make A Diference on page 17.)

Through the years it has been our practice and privilege at Source o

Light to put aside activities or the greater work o prayer. In Acts 6:4

it says, concerning the disciples,But we will give ourselves continually

to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

Recently, our director was leaving or meetings in India, and he asked

me to lead the day o prayer. Beore he let he shared some verses with

us which the Holy Spirit used in the hearts o some or conession and

prayer. As we went through the day with spontaneous response rom our

missionaries to quickly lead in earnest prayer, I was reminded o many

previous days o prayer. The Acts 6:4 emphasis o prayer and ministry othe Word seems to be Gods mandate o operation or us.

Then a couple o weeks later, ater Dr. Shade returned, we met at a Board

members house in Charleston or a day o asting and prayer. We were

anticipating Gods answers to a multitude o burdens.

Years ago, we prayed or a debt o $9,200, which had been borrowed in

the early days or equipment. Since we needed more equipment, I asked

our missionaries to pray that God would enable us to pay o the $9,200,which we did. Just two days later, a man came into my oce to ask how

much we owed. We had not published the need, so I was in awe that God

had prompted his question. When I told him, he said that he would give

me a check or $6,200 and that he elt that he could cover the balance inthree months. I could scarcely wait to call the missionaries into chapel

so that we could oer the sacrice o praise. Ater chapel, Wes Beam,

one o our printers, came to me and said, Glenn, why didnt we do

this beore? The note was seven years old and within two days God

had answered.Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye

shall receive, that your joy may be full (John 16:24). Ye rejoice with joy

unspeakable and full of glory (1 Peter 1:8b), and so we did!

    Song service at the prison

Guillermo preaching at our rural church

Rural church in the midst o fooding

The church in the city o Temuco

We have been working or the

Lord with Source o Light since

1979 . . . a long time! Guillermoand I do many jobs as we have

    oversight o two churches one

in the city and one in the country.

We also work with SLM Bible

    courses and Guillermo works with

    prisoners.

Guillermo preaches in a prison, telling the inmates about Jesus

who loves them. Some are in

    prison because they are dangerous;

    however, when the Lord touches

    their hearts, their lives are

changed. They begin to study theBible courses which are helpul

or their spiritual growth, and in

    witnessing to other inmates. Many

    are baptized, using our portable

    baptistry which we take inside

the prison. We have a ceremony

with the amilies o the inmatesand other interested prisoners. The

baptistry is getting old and has to

be repaired each time we have a

    baptism.

    It is dicult sometimes when

    inmates are released rom prison.

They have to learn how to workwith their hands and not live by

    stealing. Society does not have

    condence that these men are

changed, so they have to prove

    themselves. Some o these men

are now pastors and leaders in their

churches. We are thrilled when wecan see these men producing ruit.

We have been going to the rural

church since 1996! It is dicultto get there as the roads are very

bad. However, we love the place

and the people are simple and

kind. The church is growing little-by-little. Our brothers and sisters

in the Lord do not have much

    education (some only attending

    school through grade two), but

they do enjoy studying the Bible

courses, making an eort to learn

    more o the Bible.

    Last winter this country church

was in a food. Many amilies

around there lost their things, so

we collected clothes to help them.

Our home in the city o Temuco

had much wind damage to the

roo, which had to be repaired.

We are also involved in the city

church which began with around 25

people. Ater three years, we have

more than 60 in Sunday school.

We have had to teach the people

that the Bible is more important

than what they think about things.

Some do things according to their

own standards and not according to

the Bible. This is a teaching process

. . . but they are able to learn.

In Sunday school in bothchurches, the teachers use the

    Bible courses or their lesson

    materials. Each boy, girl, young

person, or adult has a book to

study and they receive a diploma

at the completion o their study.

    Little-by-little they are learning

more o the Bible and how to live

the Christian lie.One o the things we ocus on

is marriage. Chile did not have

a divorce law beore 2006, but

now we have divorce. We have

seen several couples with manyproblems in our churches, and

    this extends to church leaders

and pastors, too. We are helping

    by having special Marriage

    Encounters (retreats). (See the

Spring 2007 issue o The Reaper,

Broken Vows.) It takes us much

time to prepare or these retreats,

but it is very important or Christian

    couples to have this training.

    I (Vicky) have written some

material to help women that nd

    themselves experiencing domestic

violence. We are trying to organizeWomen Encounters where ladies

can tell o their experiences and

how the Lord has helped them.

Please pray much or us as

we continue to serve the Lord at

    The End o the Earth.

    I

    n our last REAPER, Richard

Beam wrote about taking a bolt

out o a steel column that he hadput in 50 years ago as a young

boy. He was celebrating not onlyhistory, but rst steps toward

removing the old to make room

or the new. As I write this article,

all o the old has been removed,

and the ooters prepared to receivethe new steel columns. The entireelectric service has been replaced

and approved and we will soon be

ready to erect the steel that will

give us a complete second foor.

From the beginning God hasprovided only the unds tosee us through each successive

phase. When the next phase was

too expensive or our unds, God

    sent proessional volunteers to do

the work and keep the budget in

    line. God once promised Elijah,

. . . the barrel of meal shall not

waste, neither shall the cruise of

    oil fail . . . (1 Kings 17:14). To this

date, our little barrel o meal has

not wasted and our cruise o oil

    has not ailed.

This whole operation has beena series o miracles o Godsexceeding aithulness. When we

    couldnt hire demolition crews

    God sent skilled volunteers to

    accomplish the work. When

    electrical changes were estimated

at $47,000, God sent an electric

    company rom Pennsylvania to

both design and make the changes.

They even donated a good portion

o the material, bringing ourcosts to about $10,000. When wecouldnt aord to have a company

cut the ooters and prepare them

    or us, (estimated cost $26,000),

our men, plus another group o

    volunteers, accomplished the

    whole job or under $2,000.

It appears now that we havethe unds needed to have aproessional company erect the

    Panoramic Views o Renovation Site

steel and I expect that by the time

you are reading this article that will

have been completed. We will need

to have the concrete poured or the

    entire second foor (16,500 square

    eet), and an elevator installed

    to meet handicap requirements.

We then must install a sprinkling

system and nish the walls or therst foor. The amount still needed

    is $168,500.

We have set the tentative dateor dedication o the rstfoor as September 23. Would you

earnestly pray, every day, that we

might see the completion o this

    gargantuan task? Then come and

join us i you can on September 23,

    and celebrate Gods aithulness.

Upper let: Pulling wires or new electrical service; Lower let:New electricl power distribution panel; Center: Volunteer team

Do you want to hear a storythat will make your day? Wehope this will inspire youto attempt great things forGod. Several months ago,

we told you about a nationalmissionary in Nairobi, Kenya. His name is Benson Waema.Source of Light put out thechallenge for our readers to

become Paper Partners. We needed to buy huge rolls of paper forprinting the Bible lessons. Benson had no money to give but hehad a talent for drawing and he decided to draw a picture of theKilimanjaro elephant. He sent this to our director with the request:Please show it to the people and maybe they will want to paysome money for it. Whatever they give, please put it on a roll ofpaper to print the lessons.

This request went out in The Reaperalong with the promisethat with every gift of money to help purchase a roll of paper, acopy of the picture of the Kilimanjaro elephant would be sent outto the donor.

The response has been overwhelming and the funds are stillcoming in. Bensons little mite has been blessed and multiplied.More than $41,651 has come in enough to buy 52 rolls of paper!Bensons efforts have made him the biggest Paper Partner we haveever had. Thanks to all of you who made it possible.

In May o 2008, the country o Myanmar (ormerly Burma) becamethe ocus o international attention or a very tragic reason. A super-cyclone hit the Irrawaddy Delta and claimed over 100,000 lives. Priorto this event, many people were unaware o Myanmars existence. ButGod was aware. He has been moving and working in this staunchly(80%) Buddhist nation or a number o years.

In October o 2007, SLM personnel visited Myanmar or thefrst time to minister with

two church planters, andto share SLM resourcesavailable in the Burmeselanguage. Our primarycontact was Pastor PhilipTang (pictured to right),president o the WordBible Seminary in Yangon, the largest city. PastorPhilip also sponsorsseveral missionaries onthe Bangladesh border andoperates an orphanage.

Ater a subsequent visit in January o 2008, SLM began to pray

about opening a new Discipleship raining Branch in Myanmar.Simultaneously, God spoke to Pastor Philips heart to partner with SLMas the new Branch Director. With joy, Asia Director, Pat Dye, returnedto Myanmar in January o 2009, and assisted Pastor Philip in ormallystarting the SLM work. Please pray or Pastor Philip as he prints anddistributes the SLM Bible lessons throughout the country. Te initialcosts to SLM are approximately $4,000 to purchase the start-up printingequipment, and to print the frst years lessons. I you would like tohelp with this need, please earmark your check, Myanmar Account.

Te super-cyclone in 2008 claimed over 100,000 lives. Lets claimat least that many or the Kingdom o God in the years that lie aheador SLM in Myanmar.

As I stood looking at the new

    compound, still under construction, I

remembered my last visit to Ignatius

and Marjorie just beore they let or

India. Theirs was a lovely home in

a restricted development in an up-

scale suburb o Atlanta. It had every

modern convenience and lots o class

ater all, Ignatius had been in realestate or almost thirty years.

But this couple had heard the call o God to return to his native land o

India and to share the message that had changed their lives and they had

obeyed. Now they live in a single room in the most austere o conditions,

sharing a rough concrete shower and toilet with the other sta, and cooking

over an open re. But I have never known them to be happier.

God has opened up a ministry or them that is reaching people who

have never beore heard the name o Jesus Christ. I spoke to a group o

those people one day outside a village hut where a woman had been healed

through a simple prayer to Jesus. She had gathered all her relatives and

riends together or the occasion, and now, she and her whole village sat

earnestly waiting to hear the story that could change their lives orever.

Yes there is a God who created them and who loves them though

He hates sin and will punish it. This God became a man that He might

pay the price o their redemption rom Satan and sin. All who believe His

message and will turn to Him, He will save. They hear and they believe

and a transormation occurs beore our very eyes. They are ree orgiven

and have a present peace and a uture hope.

As a trained nurse, Marjorie ministers to all who have a need. They

provide the children with a backpack (provided by a local church in

America) that is lled with such essentials as soap, toothpaste and brush,

comb, a blanket, and a Bible in their own language. Now, over 500 children

are asking or SLM Bible courses and we are trying to provide them.

Please pray or this dedicated couple, who, in the sunset o lie, have

given the rest o their days on this earth or the service o the Savior they

love in a dark and dicult place.

On December 5, 2008, as the eleven membermedical team boarded the bus at FirstBaptist Church Atlanta and headed or AtlantasHartseld-Jackson International Airport, the

excitement and anticipation could only be

described as explosive yet reserved. Hard work,

careul planning, and earnest prayer or saety had

brought the team to this day. Nine o the

eleven team members had never been ona short-term missions trip. Finally they

were underway . . . Atlanta to Frankurt

    to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Monday December 8, was a holidayin Ethiopia but the team wasallowed to see patients at the Dukem

Health Clinic with the help o a ew

o the clinics sta. By the end o the

day close to 200 patients had been

treated, a baby boy had been delivered,

and numerous packs o vitamins and a

variety o other medication had beendispensed. The team struggled with

limited equipment and acilities toproperly assess the condition o patients,

the level o poverty, and gross lack o

hygiene that the patients lived in.

Ater the rst day at the clinic, tears, distress and eelings o shock mixed with utter disbelie, theteam debrieed and regrouped or the remainder o the week. The levelo poverty was beyond anything any had seen and there was no point o

reerence or the lack o medical care. The situation was only worsened

by the realization o the clinics need or sanitary measures. Completely

overwhelmed by the vast lack o medical care, the team ound it dicult to

see how a weeks work could make any dierence at all. The most crushing

realization was that children and adults, who

required medication or eye disease, were

turned away with NO CARE. The incredible

blessings that were easily missed initially

included the birth o a baby boy with little

trauma to the mother, and nearly 200 people

who were seen on a day when the clinic would

    normally have been closed.

Geraldine quickly became one o themost sought-ater team members as shedispensed care packs with travel-sized soap,

lotion, toothbrushes, and toothpaste to patientsbeore they let the acility. Michelle and

Patience gave the expectant mothers Mommy

Packs, complete with diapers and a receiving

blanket or their delivery day. These items

were unheard o and certainly not something they could aord to buy.

The persistent request was or the ailment we could not treat eyedisease. Many o the children clearly had symptoms o the onset oRiver Blindness which is largely due to the use o unclean water.

As the team ploughed through the week, the number o patients seemedto lessen somewhat. They were short on energy and completely outo tears. The teams hesitation to assess and treat patients with little or

no equipment was replaced by condence that they were doing exactly

what God had asked and equipped them to do.

    NEXT STEP

Source o Light Ministries is building a clinic in Dukem to serve themedical needs o the poorest in the community. It is scheduled to becompleted by May 2009.

Pray or wisdom and guidance as the projectgrows and develops, and or the calling outand naming o the June 2009 medical team.

Truly, God is working in a marvelous wayin Ethiopia, exceedingly abundantly morethan we could ask or think!

I never know what God is going to do

    when I speak for Him.

I spoke in a church in Omaha,

    Nebraska, telling about the work

    o SLM. I mentioned that one o

our needs was a motorcycle or

    our director in Togo. Following

the service, a man handed me a

check. I thanked him and thought,

Its probably $50 or $100. Thats

    wonderul! Praise the Lord. Later

my wie and I looked at the check

and discovered it was or the ull

    amount!

You never know what God is going to do

    when you speak for Him.

    And, my riend, you never

know what God is going to do

when you speak or Him. Try it.

Share your burden or the ministry

o SLM with a ellow Christian,

or the Gospel with a lost person.

Then when God does somethingwonderul and unexpected, write

and tell us about it. You never

know what God will do when we

    speak for Him.

SLM International is delighted to welcome our Philippine Branch

Director, Dr. Lucy Nacionales, and her co-workers to the USA or several

months this summer. Dr. Nacionales ounded PhilSOL, the Philippine

Source o Light, in 1980. Since that time, God has used her to spread

the Word o God all over the Philippines: in churches, schools, prisons,

hospitals, government agencies, and the military. Currently, there are eleven

national missionaries serving with Dr. Nacionales in thirteen regions o the

country. Each year several thousand people come to aith in Christ in the

Philippines through the united eorts o the PhilSOL sta.

The purpose o Dr. Nacionales trip is to raise unds or a very much-

needed new building to house the National Oce in Manila. Every rainy

season, the roo leaks and there is continued damage to the oce and living

quarters. Now is the time to trust God to provide the $60,000 needed or a

whole new acility. As Dr. Nacionales

speaks at meetings, and to supporting

churches, will you ask God to touch

hearts and to raise up the needed

unds? Perhaps you would also like to

contribute to this worthy project. I so,

please contact SLM Field Oce (706-

    342-0397) or eldoce@sourcelight.

with the Gospel and that they were

able to purchase land to build an

orphanage or children who are taking

    the Bible courses.

    Many o our SLM Discipleship

Training Branches report an increase in

    the number o Associate Discipleship

Schools. A new WWBI school inCalcutta, India, named Ruby Bible

    College, was inaugurated with 25

students. Rejoice with us over the

    many salvation decisions reported

rom around the world and that the

Bible lessons are helping them to

Tefe Rural School. The school had

to move and a $7,000 git enabled

    them to erect temporary structures.

At a village outreach, 134 prayed to

receive Christ or rededicate their lie

to Christ, resulting in the planting o a

    new church. Daniel Sappor, Director

    o this Discipleship Training Branch,
