that makes a small step towards the production

of more sustainable snowboards. We know that

we haven´t reached our goal of building a

snowboard that is a 100% recyclable yet.

But the more riders are interested in products

with an ecological background, the more we

feel motivated to research and develop in this

direction. This doesn´t only apply for the snow-

board industry: we all have the choice to decide

to whom and for what we spend our money –

every day, with every purchase. Dear shops and

snowboarders, please support the brands and

companies that are involved.

us all. During summer, it makes us sigh when

turning the pages of a snowboard mag. And in

wintertime, we check the forecast every day with

The only problem: the days of bottomless, fresh,

white powder and bluebird sky are rare. That´s

why we wanted to extend this feeling. More

days with powder feeling. Relaxed cruising. For

this purpose we invented a snowboard. The Soul

Surfer! Packed with high-tech hidden under a

classy deck, this novel freerider makes you fl oat

on the slope as easy as through powder.

A classic Pin-Tail Shape with an All-Mountain Rocker are the basics for this retro-looking high-tech board. Relaxed cruising was never this easy! The name is the motto: playful riding characteristics and smooth turns on the slope make you merge into a common entity with the terrain… > Soul Surfer

The minimal Rocker Shape makes the board low-key on the slope but unfold its full effect in the backcountry and on the kicker. Easy to handle, very lively and forgiving. > Dice / Spade / Flavor / Squad JR.

Sustainable and more ecological manufacturing is essential for our nature and our sport. Therefore, we equipped the new Yavana and the Cashew with a tear-proof hemp/linen surface instead of a plastic topsheet, with flexible wooden instead of traditional ABS sidewalls.

This saves 400 grams of plastic! Additionally, only minimal amounts of resin and other toxic materials were used. 80% of the black, sintered base is made of recycled material while the edges are constructed of recycled steel.Resources were reduced but not technology and know-how! > Cashew / Yavana

Once again the limited Legacy Streetwear line is completing this – bio organic & fair!

Lab tests showed that wood sidewalls have a more balanced flex curve than conventional ABS sidewalls without sacri - ficing stability! Völkl’s wooden sidewalls consist of several connected layers. A stunning visual feature! A complex special impregnation process protects the wood against moisture and the effects of Mother Nature. All wooden side - walls feature additional urethane sidewall dampening on both top and bottom. Brand new: the lightweight dampening layer made of shock-absorbing PU on top of the edge. Sidewalls made of dark nutwood and light ash tree:> Squad Prime / Squad Rocker

Carbon fibers in the lower weave make the board stronger and more lively. The carbon fibers’ tensile strength allows very short reflex times. High-quality Völkl Carbon also in corporates lengthwise fiberglass strips. This weave considerably enhances the board’s torsion, pop and liveliness.

Depending on the required riding characteristics and the amount of carbon, Völkl has developed four different POP Carbon inlays.

STANCE

By having different binding insert positions, the rider may fi ne-tune the board’s riding characteristics. Freestylers usually prefer a fl atter stance angle of +15° to +21° on the front foot and -3° to -18° on the back foot. SIDECUTSOur boards feature different sidecuts depending on the terrain they are designed for. ROCKER SHAPECONCEPT / REVERSE CAMBER

“Rocker” is a well-established term among surfers, snow -boarders and wakeboarders. It describes a board shape that incorporates a negative/reverse camber. Boards with a “conventional” camber feature two contact points when the board is lying fl at on the ground, one in the nose and the other one in the tail. Due to the Rocker Shape’s “negative” camber the board touches the ground at one point only, which is in the middle of the board. Nose and tail are “fl oating” in the air. The length of this fl at section between the bindings of freestyle and freeride boards varies according to the rest of the shape profi le and intended use.

As early as in the 80s the ski and snowboard industry had come up with the fi rst construction attempts of such a shape. 2010/11 is when Völkl Snowboards deliver an entire concept behind the current trend; a concept that is based on state-of-the-art laboratory tests and years of experience and know-how.

Theoretically, such shapes provide better fl otation in powder snow and are generally easy-to-turn and playful. However if you just try to “re-curve” a conventional board shape, the board loses its dampening properties and edge hold. This is why all other parameters have to be re-adjusted too.
