Dear Friends, This holiday letter comes loaded with gratitude, love, and affection. Regardless of how you choose to celebrate this season of glad tidings and joy, we wish you and yours all the best. 2011 has been an extraordinary year for Homefront America. In spite of the challenging and uncertain times, we reached new heights that we never thought possible . . . all because of our friends – YOU! To our new friends, we welcome you to our fold and look forward to deepening our relationship. Every person is an important member of our Homefront family, and we are grateful for your support. To our friends who have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with us through the years, especially those who grew up with us from infancy to present day, there simply are not words that can adequately express our depth of gratitude. Your friendship and continued commitment to give of your time, talent, and treasure are beyond amazing. You inspire and give us the courage to challenge ourselves to explore uncharted territories. You embolden us to dream the impossible dreams, and give us the confidence to pursue these dreams and make them come true. One of Vince Lombardi’s famous quotes was, “Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” Without a doubt, your commitment to the Homefront America team is what makes it work, and the reason it will continue to work. The proof is in the pudding. In October, Homefront America received the 2011 Cox Cares Foundation Nonprofit of the Year Award for its back-to-school program. The award honors local nonprofits that offer invaluable services to those with the greatest need. Homefront America is humbled to be a recipient of this much-coveted award. Earlier this month, the Samueli Foundation awarded the annual prestigious Big Heart Awards to Homefront America. The Big Heart Awards recognize outstanding nonprofit organizations serving the community and world with creative, sustainable, and entrepreneurial programs. We are deeply grateful to the Foundation’s staff and founders, Henry and Susan Samueli, for this amazing recognition. The Samuelis are well known for their philanthropic work throughout Orange County. Mr. Samueli is the co-founder of Broadcom, a FORTUNE 500 company. The company is a global leader and innovator in semiconductor solutions for wired and wireless communications. In addition, we added new programs, and made significant enhancements to existing programs.

For Easter, in addition to providing the children with Easter baskets, an egg hunt, visit with the Easter Bunny and other activities, Homefront America team members made it possible to provide more than 300 Easter ham dinners for the families to enjoy at the event. In June, patriots from near and far traveled to San Juan Capistrano for our first “Heroes Nite Out” dinner. What started out as a small gathering of friends to help honor those who selflessly serve our Country, turned out to be a sold-out evening with a wait list. This is only one example of what Homefront America team members can do, and before the night was out, the phrase “we have to do this again next year” became the mantra for the evening. Welcome Home USS Gary (FFG-51) Sailors! Homefront patriots hopped on the welcome home bandwagon to greet returning Sailors at the Naval Base San Diego in August. The Sailors were greeted by Homefront Huggers as they disembarked the ship, and were treated to a spread of home baked goods and yummy treats. The Oliver Hazard Perry-class USS Gary (FFG-51) frigate crew conducted counter-drug operations during their six-month long deployment, and was successful in seizing more than $100 million (U.S. dollars) worth of illegal drugs from entering the United States. Shortly after their return, the crew hosted a “Friends and Families Day Cruise” aboard the ship. More than 50 Homefront Gary Cruisers joined in for a day at sea with these amazing Sailors. Anchors Aweigh! As summer rolled into fall, the team forged ahead and launched another first. Donned in Red, White, and Blue, Homefront America team members gathered to salute our veterans of WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Dessert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom with a Veterans Tribute in San Juan Capistrano. The event included a BBQ and special patriotic performance by the children’s singing group, Celebration USA, Catch the Spirit. To kick off the holidays, Homefront team members inspired us to challenge ourselves to increase our Thanksgiving outreach from our previous 100 families to 200. This resulted in providing Thanksgiving groceries for 205 military families to enjoy for the holiday. Indeed, our team members are awe-inspiring. This could never have happened without your commitment to the team’s effort. Now, as we close another year – a year filled with wonderful memories and exceptional achievements – we would like to say thank you for being our friend and our rock. You are the Angels on whose shoulders we stand on. There is no doubt we can fly higher than an Eagle with you being the wind beneath our wings. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and may this holiday season bring you great joy and peace. Here is to another great year ahead. Happy 2012! With our heartfelt gratitude, Art Hasselbrink, Adam & Mamie Maywhort P.S. If you wish to stay connected to all the things we do throughout the year for our troops and families, YOU CAN!
