Garden State Film FestivalAsbury Park

The Garden State Film Festival (GSFF) was conceived to recognizeand commemorate the little known fact that the film industry wasborn in New J ersey, not Hollywood. Monmouth County native and long-time film producer, Diane Raver, along with the late, acclaimed actor Robert Pastorelli, launched the GSFF in 2003, and it has been held annually in the spring at various venues in Asbury Park and the surrounding area. Raver and Pastorelli envisioned a vibrant festival designed to promote the art of filmmaking at all levels by showcasing a wide variety of film, video and animated works, and to provide educational programs to the public. Further, it would nurture new talent and provide a forum for filmmakers to share ideas and engage each other and their audiences. Since itsinception, the festival has been the engine behind the renaissance in Asbury Park. Upwards of 40 ,000 people attend screenings and events throughout the festival, as well as at related programs throughout the region. The City of Asbury Park notes that the four-day festival generates approximately $400 ,000 in revenue to local businesses.
