PRESIDENT’S REPORT

It gives me great pleasure to present the 2012/13 McKinnon Cricket Club Annual Report to you. We have much to be proud with regard to our achievements as a club this year. Success is more than just the performance of our 1st XI team. Our club can celebrate the success of our many other XI’s, the development of our juniors into senior players, our financial performance becoming more stable, the major contribution that our volunteers make, our contribution to our local community and the tremendous spirit that we have around the club. I would firstly wish to congratulate Michael Watts and his 2nd XI on their fine season, capped off by winning the Senior Seconds premiership. The team was a mix of seasoned players as well as some of our fine young talent. Well done to Ryan Thompson for his Man of the Match performance with a patient and telling innings. Paul Cox led his 14A Twilight team to a premiership. This collection of boys played in a very strong competition and it is fair to say the talent in the team is outstanding. They are a wonderfully well drilled team who played with great passion. Great play by Aman Prasad who picked up the well-deserved Player of the Match award. Our 4th XI under Stuart Hamstead is to be congratulated for playing in another high quality Grand Final but just falling agonisingly short again. Tremendous to see young 15yo Connor Byrne awarded the Man of the Match award for his wonderful innings. Special mention needs to be made of the Under 17 team which played off in their 3rd consecutive Grand Final, only to be beaten by a strong representative side from Bonbeach Tangy. Our Under 12’s again took out the Lightning Premiership for the 4th consecutive year. In a very strong competition, the boys are to be congratulated for continuing the “McKinnon tradition”. No doubt some of these lads will graduate into our senior ranks and be influential players in the future. Our 1st XI did it tough at times this year fielding arguably the youngest squad in the very demanding Senior Division of the VTCA. Led by first time Captain and graduate of our Junior Program, Adam Pullman, the boys pulled of some rousing victories and only narrowly went down to the eventual Premier in Old Mentonians. I am sure each player gained valuable experience and will be better for it as we face next season. It was always the case that we had to get 1st XI game experience into many of our younger players. Making their debut this year were Sandun Dias, Brad Kruger, Matt Collett, Jacob Duscher, Ben Schwab, Brendan Dawes and Cam Watts. The future looks bright for our Senior team and we are proud of the number of junior cricketers we transition through to our 1st XI, it is an indicator of high importance to us as a club. We must thank Peter Streker for his role as First x1 scorer and in player development. We are fortunate to have someone with such insight in sports psychology. Thanks Peter We were fortunate to have Lancashire player Wayne White with us for 8 games. He is simply one of the best players to have pulled on the baggy purple for McKinnon. His batting is all class and his bowling rapid and lion hearted. Wayne took out the Ken Hilton and Peter Watts medals for best player overall and best 1st XI player respectively. He also finished equal second in the Paxino Medal and I am sure he would have come close to winning it if he had played the whole season. We will watch Wayne’s career with interest as he pushes for higher honours back in native England. Thank you to Peter Marshall in his role as Club Coach. Pete puts in an enormous amount of time to the club and his energy and enthusiasm are essential ingredients in making McKinnon a place people are drawn to. Peter put in countless hours in preseason and during the season at training and on match days.

Our Junior Program under the tutelage of Rick Pullman and Paul O’Donnell continues to be the envy of many clubs. Our numbers remain strong, the spirit in which the boys play the game is respectful and the development of our players a joy to watch. Thank you to the team coaches, managers, scorers and others who assisted. It is a great time in one’s life when you can help out around your children’s sporting interests. I need to highlight the work of Rick Pullman with our Juniors over many years. He has been a rock and ensured we were always presenting McKinnon teams to be proud of. Rick, after threatening for many years, has tendered his resignation as Junior Coach. Bravo Rick for a wonderful contribution to our Junior program. You have much to be proud of as you see so many of our young cricketers graduate into higher levels and representative teams. With regard to representative honours achieved by our junior playing group, these are listed in the report. I have no doubt that there would be very few clubs, if any, across the State that would have had 15 boys selected for representative teams. This is an outstanding achievement. On top of this we saw junior graduate Ashton Agar make his First Class debut for Western Australia and be selected, in his debut year, in the Sheffield Shield team of the year. Congratulations Ashton. As well, we saw another junior graduate Anna O’Donnell be selected as the inaugural First XI captain of the Melbourne Cricket Club Women’s team, well done Anna on achieving that honour. We continued to consolidate our financial performance under the leadership of our Treasurer Jill Watts. We have a sound budget in place which drives our revenue streams and controls our expenditures. Our financial performance has improved by several thousand this year to virtually break even. This is despite having to pay out over $4,500 for ground curator fees which we haven’t had to for many years. I must acknowledge the work of Noel Stewart whose tireless efforts saw us significantly increase sponsorship and initiate several fundraising drives. Brilliant work Noel! We continue to work hard to present our facilities in clean and tidy condition through the work of our volunteers. This year as I mentioned we engaged the City of Glen Eira to prepare our turf wickets. We enjoyed the break from the enormous volunteer loads of recent years and assisted Clive Warr from the Council in his duties. The wickets were very good quality and the outfield the best that anyone can remember in 50 years. Well done Clive and the City of Glen Eira. The work undertaken by Shaun Davis to research our 1st XI representatives took some 2 years and provided the basis of a stirring and somewhat emotional presentation of our new look baggy purple caps to our 1st XI. Club Legends and Life Members were invited to present the caps to the squad. Each 1st XI player reaching back to the 1950’s will have a number representing their ascendency to the Firsts team. Great work Shaun in producing an important legacy that will be a fine McKinnon tradition. In recognition of his work Shaun was presented with the 2012/13 Sandy Sanderson Club Person of the Year. We saw further growth in our Past Players group this year, which is extremely pleasing. Under the leadership of Ken Dowling and Ken Hilton the group now numbers over 60 and it assembles each year for a luncheon with a guest speaker and the telling of many tall stories from earlier days. Thank you also to Committee members in Ben Charles, Adrian Keane, Greg Fitzgerald, Russell Dowling and Chris Whitehead. The Past Players have committed to keeping the club memorabilia in good order and in that regard have upgraded premiership photos that were showing signs of wear. Thanks to Ken Dowling also for his expert calligraphy in preparing our premiership photos.

Thanks to Heather Faragher and her terrific work on the newsletter, it was greatly appreciated by players, parents, supporters and sponsors alike. A great initiative and a professional product. I must acknowledge the work of Chris Whitehead and Brian Osmand who for many years have provided a smiling face behind the bar on Saturdays. We thank you for giving up your time to volunteer and enable the club to raise much needed funds. To all those who assisted Jill Watts in the preparation of our substantial afternoon teas, thank you. This year we introduced a new supporters club, the Centurions. We secured over 20 members who enjoyed discounts and a plenty of good cheer. We thank you for your contribution and look forward to building on this initiative. We value greatly the contribution our Sponsors make to the club. Thank you to our Major Sponsor, The McKinnon Hotel and Cameron Stewart for your support, and also to our Gold Sponsors – Hungry Jacks and John O’Brien, United Tools McKinnon and Laurie Herron, Lifetime Pine and Albert Toet, Bendigo Bank Ormond and Colin Geldart, Hocking Stuart Bentleigh and Peter Sinclair, and Max’s Supplements and Keith Ellis. The full collection of our sponsors is listed in the sponsorship section of this report and I urge all supporters of the club to consider utilising the offerings of our sponsors and to give something back to them in recognition of their support of our club. I have no doubt that the volunteer ethic around the club was stronger this year and this is something we need to build on further. Whether it is through the formality of a Committee role or occasional assistance it is essential that we grow such contributions further. It has been a key ingredient to what makes McKinnon a strong and highly regarded club, we must continue to grow and value our volunteers. Finally I would like to thank my fellow Committee members for their tireless efforts. I also thank their families who have allowed them to contribute to the club in such a vital manner. I look forward to next season where I am sure the club will continue to strengthen and continue to enhance its reputation as a well-rounded club capturing the respect of the cricket fraternity in Melbourne. Go Maccas. Peter Fitchett President

COACH’S REPORT

Albeit a tough year, it was my pleasure to have headed up the coaching at McKinnon CC this season and with pride, deliver my coaching report. Our year started in June with a Development Winter Academy comprising of 22 of our young guns on an eight week (indoors) program under the guidance of Daniel Streker, Rick Pullman, Paul Cox, Jay Watts and myself. A great success and I know all the participants gained some benefit out of the program. The senior squad began training indoors in mid July and was well attended and executed. Really good numbers and work ethic, very pleasing standing up against the Premier clubs training next to us. Following a pre-season game against Tooradin and combined with excellent recruiting, there was a lot to look forward to. Well documented was the performance of our First XI. It was below par for the competition in the Senior Division and we found ourselves only winning 3 games, finishing 11th. We certainly improved our list and had good spirit within the team, capably led by one of our homegrown stars Adam Pullman, however the competition has gone to a new platform with overseas recruits and a cheque book mentality. We groomed a number of new players - Jacob Duscher, Matt Collett, Cam Watts, Brendan Dawes, Lucas Hemming and Ben Schwab. Clearly with the Fitchetts, Alonis, Jefferys, Massies and Will Taylors of the world, we have the youngest squad in the VTCA and a lot to look forward to. Our top line recruits Brad Kruger, Sandun Dias and Wayne White (one of the best players ever to play for the purple and gold) added professionalism and depth. We hope Brad and Sandun can build on their first year, step up to the plate and carry the younger players through. Congratulations to Michael Watts in leading the 2nd XI to a premiership in his first year and giving many players opportunity. Our 3rds and 4ths played up a grade and both teams acquitted themselves very well. Shaun in his last year as skipper took the 3s through to the last game fighting for a spot in the four in South Seconds. Stuart led the 4s into another Grand Final against Beaumaris again, and tragically failed by 1 wicket to take the cup, albeit outplaying them over 4 days. Most importantly both captains gave the youngsters opportunity and were not let down. I wish to thank Nick Sinclair in leading the one day team and introducing a lot of new players to turf cricket. Special thanks must go to Ken Hilton who performed his duties as Practice Captain with aplomb and professionalism and training could not have function without his diligence and commitment. Congratulations to all the premiership players in the 2nd XI and award winners in each team, however well done to every player who chose to wear the purple and gold. For our club to return to being a strong performer in the top grade, players must embrace a stronger work ethic, make some sacrifices and lift intensity on match day in particular. Let’s not be mistaken, VTCA senior cricket is no Mickey Mouse competition and if your A grade game is not put out you will be found out. We are blessed with wonderful facilities, a hardworking Committee of which I wish to thank for their support and a terrific junior program bringing through players to senior turf cricket. A special mention to Pete Fitchett as President, Ben Charles and Jill Watts for their on going support. Pete Streker, thank you for your mentoring and Team Manager duties, Paul Cox for his assistance at training and the captains also.

In closing, make no mistake the players who wish to buy in and lift their efforts will reap the rewards and return our club to the top of the competition sooner rather than later, but it will take hard work. Season 2013-14 can’t come soon enough! Yours in cricket, Pete Marshall

Senior Captains Reports 1st XI

It was with great pride that I led the 1st XI onto the field to commence the 2012/13 season, following my appointment as Captain of the McKinnon Cricket Club. Coming into the season the expectations of the playing group were high, the match committee had recruited well in the off-season and our young playing list looked to improve upon what had been a development year in 2011/12. My pre-season sense of optimism and the team’s goal of playing finals quickly needed reassessment after 3 successive defeats to begin our campaign. Tough loses to Greenvale, Yarraville Club and Keilor gave the playing group a stern reality check of where we were at, and more importantly where we needed to improve. Several players showed good early season form including Jarred Fletcher and new recruit Brad Kruger; however as a team we struggled for consistency in all three facets of the game and suddenly found ourselves behind the pack. In Round 5 we welcomed two old acquaintances to McKinnon Oval, traditional rival South Caulfield and our overseas professional Wayne White. Wayne immediately had a positive impact on morale within the playing group, which was clearly evident as we got our season underway with a terrific win. New Sri Lankan recruit Sandun Dias combined with Wayne to steer home a tremendous second innings run chase and the famous McKinnon anthem “It’s a Hi-Hi-Hee” was sung with great gusto and passion in the rooms post-game. In Round 8 we again found ourselves hosting a local rival, coming into the game with three consecutive defeats. This time the challenge was Bentleigh, and the stakes even more critical. The McKCC committee with assistance from Shaun Davis led an initiative to bring back the ‘Baggy Purple’ playing cap, which were presented to the playing group pre-game, prior to play. 11 McKCC champions shared the rooms with the playing group to not only hand over a Baggy Purple, but with it, the meaning of representing the 1st XI at McKinnon. Club greats including Gary Watts, Rick Pullman, Rick Gough, Russell Cleland and Doug Murdoch shared stories of what it meant to them and encouraged the playing group to make the most of the opportunity and honour bestowed upon us. Their words had immediate effect as we sensationally chased down Bentleigh’s total of 164, eclipsing their total on the last ball of the day, 9 wickets down - Wayne White and Jarred Fletcher again leading the way with the bat. We took our good form into a Round 9 clash with Airport West. In what was our best team effort of the season, we played hard, tough cricket and staunchly defended our total of 238. Sandun Dias was rewarded for bowling consistently well and took 4 wickets, while Wayne White again starred scoring 106 and taking the match winning wicket. Unfortunately we were unable to carry on our good form for the remainder of the season, and consecutive losses to Old Mentonians and Beaumaris in the penultimate and final rounds left us in 11th place, with 3 wins and 8 losses. It would be very easy looking in from the outside to judge season 2012/13 solely based on our finishing ladder position, but upon reflection several positives emerged.

Pre-season recruits Sandun Dias and Brad Kruger fitted in well with the playing group. Both displayed that they have the talent to become match winners in the VTCA and will be quality 1st XI cricketers for McKCC next season and hopefully beyond. Sandun and Brad both provided great support to me in my first season in the captain’s job and I thank them both for their contributions throughout the season. Throughout the year we consistently fielded the youngest squad of any Senior Division team. We do not have the big budgets of our rivals and rely on our quality junior program to develop young cricketers capable of representing the 1st XI and earning their very own Baggy Purple. Throughout the season 16 players played in the 1st XI, 11 of which graduated through the junior program. Season 2012/13 saw the 1st XI debuts of Jacob Duscher, Brendan Dawes and Cam Watts. Each showed levels of maturity beyond their years and contributed when needed, often in high pressure situations. I would like to congratulate Wayne White on his fine season. Wayne won the McKCC Player of the Year, Peter Watts Medal, 1st XI Batting and Bowling awards. Furthermore Wayne placed second in the Paxino Medal for the best player in Senior Division, all from playing only 8 games. Wayne recently signed with County side Lancashire and I wish him well in his future endeavors. Hopefully we see him representing the purple and gold at McKinnon Oval again in the future. Captaining the McKCC is a great experience albeit a difficult and sometimes stressful one. I would like to thank Peter Marshall, Paul Cox and Peter Fitchett for showing faith in me to do the job and their continued show of support throughout the year. They are all fantastic club people, giving countless hours to the administration, coaching and day to day running of the club, and exemplify what makes McKCC a great club. There is a lot of talent and potential amongst the Senior playing group at McKCC, but unfortunately we were unable to demonstrate our skills on a consistent basis throughout season 2012/13. If the current group can stick together, apply themselves and grow as unit over the coming seasons then I have no doubt we can achieve short and long term success. The age, talent and development potential of the players coming into not only the 1st XI, but lower grades as well, should be seen as a huge positive for the club, it’s members, supporters and sponsors moving forward. I look forward to the journey. Adam Pullman 2nd XI It was a sensational year for the 2nds in winning the Premiership. This was the reward for a lot of hard work by everyone who represented us throughout the season. I couldn't have wished for a better result in my first year of captaincy, although there were some very tough moments during a season with plenty of twists and turns.

After being comprehensively beaten in our first game and looking down the barrel late in day 2 of our second against Yarraville Club, it was Brendan Dawes who kick started our season in fine style. With 3 late wickets after the game seemed lost, Brendan showed what a super talent he is clinching us the win by 1 run with a few balls left in the day. Brendan went on to have a fantastic year winning the bowling average and making his 1st XI debut for the club. We were off and running.

After a solid away win to Keilor, we managed to chase down 250 against South Caulfield on their home ground in round 5. A superb run chase led by James Aloni (75) and Sharne Murdoch (56) after Ryan Thompson (35) set an early foundation, as he did for the entire season. As Vice Captain, Ryan led from the front, opening the batting for us all year. He joined Paul Cox and Jack Massie in making over 300 runs for

Page 9: 2012/13 Annual Report - Cricket Australiamckinnon.vic.cricket.com.au/files/416/files/Annual... · It gives me great pleasure to present the 2012/13 McKinnon Cricket Club Annual Report

8

the season, with Sharne not far behind them. Jack won the batting average, a fine achievement in such a strong batting order. Having such an even spread of run scorers would prove pivotal by seasons end.

As had been the case in the past, just as we appeared to be cruising along nicely we suffered an embarrassing loss in the last game before the break at home to Hoppers Crossing. After looking the goods with the bat in the previous game, we were rolled for 80 with only Lucas Hemming (37) standing up with the bat. This proved to be a turning point for us for the year and my first "spray" to the boys as captain. A personal highlight for me!

The crucial one day games after Christmas saw us have a good away win against St Bernards and a 3 run win on the last ball against top team Bentleigh. Paul, Ryan and Jack again led the way with the bat whilst the veterans in Jason Watts and Peter Marshall led the way in the field. It was great to have Peter back keeping for us and still moving like he was 45!

An outright win against Airport West followed in round 9 with Jack making 99. Jason starred with the ball claiming 10 for the game, still proving to be too good for most top order batsmen and along with Brendan and myself, went on to take over 20 wickets for the season. This with the batsmen was providing a pretty special spread amongst the team, which held us in good shape for the rest of the year.

Round 10 saw us play our eventual grand final opponent in Old Mentonians at home, where we put 200 on the board, but were passed with only 4 wickets down. Their number 3 made a chanceless 100 - this was the only century anyone made against us all year and although it was a loss, I went away, happily knowing it would have to take a special performance to beat us.

In the last game of the year we travelled to Beaumaris still not guaranteed of playing finals cricket. We performed really well on both days of the match with an even spread from everyone in the team. Making 290 in reply to their 140 was a convincing way to end the home and away rounds and book our spot in the finals.

It was a really hard decision to leave Will Taylor out of the semi final team for Cam Watts, who was returning from the 1s. Will had been a big part of our team for the whole year and is a fine cricketer. I'm sure Will, Cam, Brendan and Jack will go on and play a lot of 1st XI cricket for us in the future.

Taking on Hoppers away, on a really hot weekend wasn't the ideal scenario for us, but Daniel Streker and Brendan soon put us in a commanding position with the ball, rolling them for 80 on a pretty good wicket. We passed them on the first day and were made to go back on day 2 and earn our spot in the Grand Final.

Taking on Old Mentonians at Altona North, we went in with a really experienced side with everyone in pretty good form. Having lost the toss, we were rapt to be bowling (except for Paul) with everyone disciplined in the field and with the ball. Brendan again did well ending up with 4, whilst Jason toiled hard to take 1/39 off 32 overs. Having bowled them out for 170 off 100 overs, it was clear the game would only go 1 innings. The last 19 overs on day 2 were critical, so seeing Gordon and Ryan walk off at 0/30, put us right in the box seat. On day 3, we were fortunate to have the best of the conditions and again an even spread from the top order put one hand on the flag for us. Paul and Jack did well, whilst Ryan’s marathon Man of the Match innings would prove to be the difference. We ended the day at 7/180 and went back on day 4 to gain what we deserved.

I personally would like to thank Peter Marshall for giving me the opportunity to captain the side. I look forward to seeing everyone soon. Michael ‘Dogga’ Watts

3rd XI After a successful campaign last season in winning the premiership, I was excited about the opportunity of achieving back-to-back flags in season 2012/13. This challenge was made all the more harder following the development that the 3s would be playing in the South Seconds competition against 2nd XI sides. A challenge mind you that myself and the Club were excited about. With us playing in this division and the 4s playing in South C1 against 3rd XI sides, it ensured our lower XI’s would be tested week in, week out and be of great benefit for players who were promoted throughout the season, meaning the jump in standard was somewhat reduced. The first half of the season produced 3 wins, 1 draw, 1 lost and 1 wash out, leaving us in the top 4 at the Xmas break. We had played some fantastic cricket in the opening half of the season, setting us up for a shot of playing finals. The 2 one day matches that followed, saw us consolidate our position with victories in both games, and with another win in Round 9, it meant we controlled our own destiny going into the final 2 rounds. The round 10 match versus Parkdale proved to be pivotal. A tough and tense match from the outset, we ended up losing by 11 runs. This meant we had to beat top team Brighton District in the final round to make the finals. Unfortunately we were completely outclassed in this match and lost heavily. This had been the first time all season I felt we had been out of our depth, the first occasion it had looked like a 3rd XI playing a 2nd XI. In saying that, it was a fantastic season that challenged all the boys each week. There is no substitute for playing hard, competitive cricket. Well done to the guys who represented the team throughout the season. Regardless of who was in the side, we always played as a unit, and took it up to the opposition. Some of the highlights from the season were –

• Lachie McKenzie getting the first wicket of the season with a gem of a delivery against Port Melb • James Bragagnolo’s attacking innings against Murrumbeena • Cam Watts settling his nerves, then bowling a treat against Murrumbeena • Taking 6/28 versus Cheltenham to win after the game looked gone • Simon Galloway and Andrew Coghill both taking a bag of wickets against Brighton District • Jack Massie’s stylish innings against Brighton District • Will Taylor’s classy innings against Mentone • Beating Mentone in the last over largely due to partnership between Simon and Deep Das Gupta • Gordo Grewcock’s brutal innings against Heatherton • Lucas Hemming destroying Moorabbin Park’s top order • Chris Kelly-Watts walking down the wicket and clubbing boundaries against Parkdale • Ash Dias’s pure hitting against Brighton District

Thank you to Peter Marshall, Peter Fitchett, Ben Charles, and the Committee for their support this season. The time is right for me to stand down as skipper. I have loved doing the job and take much pride in the fact that I have been able to successfully lead an XI at our great club. Congratulations to Michael and the 2s on a fantastic season culminating in winning the premiership. And well done also to Stuart and the boys in the 4s – a tough pill to swallow in just falling short, but a brilliant team effort in a grand final against a very good side. Shaun Davis

4th XI

What an entertaining year I had as first year skipper of this side. With a few old heads and a raft of juniors who were keen for senior cricket the first game couldn’t come quick enough. The first week was fast approaching and we had not seen a fixture yet, so we were unaware who the first battle was against. When the draw finally came out, the VTCA had disbanded the South C2 Division where the 4ths had been playing for many years. With that they had moved us to South C1 and in doing so, in the same grade as our 3rds. On hearing this news the club looked at moving the 3rds to another division and like us to tougher competition. With the fixtures all sorted and the 3rds finding a new home in South Seconds, some cricket wasn’t far off. After the customary wash out and not enough grounds ready for cricket, we opened up the account against Highett in round 3. We were away. The following week we came up against a very strong South Caulfield side, who we took the fight right up to but narrowly lost. From there we never looked back not losing another game in the home and away season. This was due to the whole team doing the things that we did best. As I had stated earlier there were a plethora of juniors willing to play senior cricket in the Club. I feel that we have a vast load of talent in this area and the ones who played with us in the 4ths were no exception. In all for the season I think we introduced four junior players to the 4th XI. Add to this another three players who had had only a handful of senior games under their belt. All these young men took their opportunities and ran with it and stood up every time they where asked. Throughout the season some of these players I lost to higher grades, which only helped their cricket and also when they came back to me the experience had helped them enormously. It was not just the youngsters that had an outstanding year. The old fellas in Glenn Taylor, Paul O’Donnell, David Wilson, Ryan Watts, Chris Kelly-Watts and Phil Gillott all played a major part in having the season we did, and I thank each one of them for their support, feedback and contribution at various stages throughout the year. (And Ryan you’re driving us all to the away games now). Back to the on field we ended the home and away season in second spot on the ladder just behind Beaumaris on points, who by the way, we hadn’t played in the regular season. This put us into the semi final against Parkdale. After another good team effort we rolled them for 168 with Josh Dixon taking 4 for 26 being the stand out with the ball. In reply we had a shaky start being 4 for not many then James Bragagnolo and Chris Kelly-Watts combined putting the game out of Parkdale’s reach getting 72 & 54* respectively. Another great win put us through to another crack in a Grand Final. Well back to Oak St we went again to play Beaumaris in the grand final. No one had to look in the Melways to get there after the last couple of years. Once again it was a game of the highest standard that went down to the last ball of the game. Unfortunately we lost due to the quirkiness of the game we play, and the rules we play by. After making 9/286, I declared leaving us 85 overs to dismiss Beaumaris. We could not get the last wicket to secure victory having them 9/116. In a disappointing result that we are all hurting about, the biggest and best highlight was Connor Byrne and Jacob Stone’s 99 run partnership for the 9th wicket, Connor making 84*and collecting Man Of The Match. In closing I would like to thank the Committee and especially the Executive in Peter Fitchett, Ben Charles and Jill Watts for their tireless work around the Club. Thanks also to the Match Committee and all my fellow captains for their support and guidance, and to all that support and follow McKinnon CC. Stuart ‘Suma’ Hamstead

One Day XI As the captain of the 5th XI at McKinnon CC for the 2012/13 season, I have confidence in saying that we had a pretty solid year (even though the ladder says different!). Because of the slight shortage in senior players, a lot of junior players were used to fill the side up. It is fantastic to see so many younger cricketers keen and ready to step up and have a shot playing a more difficult level of cricket. Unfortunately some of the older, more experienced teams just straight up out-played us and we weren’t able to make the top 4 by the end of the home and away season. With so much potential among the youth of Club, let’s hope that in the future years we get to see even more flags on the wall! Nick Sinclair T20 Once again the club put a big commitment into the shortest format of the game and plenty of players were given opportunities to play some extra cricket. The struggles of Saturday cricket were some what put aside as we won three games and enjoyed some memorable moments. Our game versus Carnegie would feature 350 runs in 40 overs cricket including a brutal 71 from 40 balls including 4 sixes from Sandun Dias. No more than a week later Sandun helped himself to a 14 over, 56 ball century to guide us to a score of 183 that would prove too much for Hampton. A trip to Matty Pearson's Murrumbeena brought us another win and bragging rights over the 2010/11 2nd XI premiership player. Thank you to all that gave up their time to slip into the purples. I look forward to doing it all over again next season. Daniel Streker

Junior Reports

Season 2012/2013 has been another great success for McKinnon CC Juniors, with many great achievements in every team. It is great to see the enthusiastic involvement of our young players, parents and volunteers, whether learning new aspects of this great game, or sharing knowledge and experience where required. We fielded 9 junior teams in the CMCA and one Under 17 team in the VTCA Sunday Turf Competition. We were lucky enough to have 4 teams represent us in the Finals, with the Under14A Twilight team taking out a well earned Premiership against Hampton at Bailey Reserve. We also ran our Milo in2CRICKET programme and participated in the T20Blast! Competition. We had as many as 17 current and ex McKinnon juniors playing in representative and elite competitions, the most notable being Ashton Agar with WA Warriors, Perth Scorchers, Australia A and will be in England this winter so anything is possible! Junior Cricket is so critical to the life of this club, and this was clearly evident when we see so many of our young players populate the grounds at training on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and game days Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I think the greatest success is providing enjoyment in the game and seeing the improvement as every season develops. One of the constants at McKinnon trainings over the past 8 years was our Junior Coach, Rick Pullman. Rick has given so much of his time to the development of junior cricketers and always made the effort to be available on game day, visiting as many games as he possibly could. Unfortunately, Rick has decided to step down from this role. I am sure you will all share our extreme gratitude for his involvement in this, and many other areas of the club. Whilst he will be missed, I hope that we can provide the resources from within and all step in to assist where possible. Thank you Rick. There are too many people to thank individually, so I would just like to say thanks to everyone who volunteered their time and efforts in any small way; Coaches, Managers, Scorers, Umpires, Drivers, Caterers....thank you all. We can’t do it without you. Special thanks to a few who stepped up and did jobs beyond their individual teams - Sheryl Mackintosh, Lisa Halasz, Heather Faragher, Kellie Gray, Peter Marshall. We are very lucky here at McKinnon and look forward seeing you all next season. There will most likely be a more formal Junior Committee next season so please let us know if you wish to be involved. All positions are open. Thanks again. It is with great pleasure that I present the individual reports below. Paul O’Donnell Junior Coordinator

Under 17s

Once again, in our third season we fielded a team in the VTCA Sunday 17’s Competition and once again we reached the grand final.

Over 25 lads played in the team throughout the season and our policy as has been in the past to introduce young players to Turf cricket and develop their skills continued and as a club we must be very satisfied how the season unfolded.

Of course we always play to win, but the development of the boys was indeed pleasing and our squad was a young one compared to other teams.

We played 14 games and only lost to Bonbeach (rep team) who were the eventual premiers.

I would like to thank Ben Charles who always ensured we had good wickets and Pete Fitchett and his Committee who supported us home and away.

One initiative we undertook was to play an Under 17/18 team against the South East Breakers Under 16 squad on a Sunday at McKinnon, which also gave our players a wonderful opportunity to compete against some of the best junior players in the region.

Special thanks to my two assistants Jay Watts and Glenn Taylor, without them it would not have been possible. Two other serious mentions must go to Lisa Halasz who does everything (scores, washing, afternoon teas, taxi driver etc) and Brett Jakes the world’s neatest score person.

Our team was led by Matt Hirschman and in his absence Will Taylor, both lads did a great job without yours truly interfering too much.

An amazing win against Beaumaris in the semi final at home routing the opposition saw us take on Bonbeach in the grand final at their home digs on a sunny Feb afternoon. The scoresheet tells a sorry tale of 4 run outs which cost us our second premiership in 3 years.

Outstanding performances during the season were recorded by Will Taylor, Connor Byrne, Cam Watts, Matt Hirschman, Liam Head, Jake Halasz, Steve Daygs, Brayden Mancal and Michael Hargood.

In closing, I had wonderful support from all the parents and regardless whether the VTCA runs this fixture next season, I am sure our club will conduct some Under 17/18 games next season.

Yours in cricket,

Pete Marshall U17’s Coordinator

Under 16 Squad Once again, August came around and that annual phone call from Rick Pullman came and with Paul O’Donnell’s assistance, we got the Under 16 lads up and going with three teams, unheard of! Jay Watts, Andrew Head with Lisa Halasz and Andrew O’Connor with Bruce Eckersall were the team manager/coaches and all did a wonderful job guiding the lads through their games on Friday nights. We had 37 players and they trained every Tuesday night prior to the seniors, with their commitment and energy being simply amazing and exhausting to be part of, but very enjoyable. I can honestly say every boy improved their skills as the season transpired and I know they all had a heap of fun and the fact we had huge numbers every week stands for itself, a success. The A and C sides played off in the semis, going down in close games, but the experience gained will hold the boys in good stead for the coming year. The D side comprised of first year players, was very competitive and had wonderful spirit. Fourteen players will be coming out of the 16’s system of which 11 have already tasted senior cricket on the turf. With the 17’s program, we have been able to introduce many young players to turf cricket and enhance our program into senior fixturing. A lot to look forward to with the coming season with Paul Cox’s lads premiers this year moving up to give the squad added depth from the Under 14s, certainly a healthy prospect to get excited about. To all the award winners batting, bowling, coaches award, congratulations and look forward to season 2013-14 with confidence with your team mates. In closing the 16’s coaching group together with Rick and Pod named Jake Halasz as the Outstanding Under 16 Cricketer of the Year. We also named a Team of the Year, which was in batting order - Connor Byrne John O’Connor Will Taylor (capt.) Wes Agar Jake Halasz w/k Deep Das Gupta Cam Watts Kurt Heigl Tom Strudwick Michael Jakes Liam Head Tom Harkin See you next season Pete Marshall

Under 16A Twilight

At the beginning of the 2012-13 U16 season, we looked at the quality of players that were selected to represent McKCC in the highest grade and new that good results were in store. Going into the Xmas break, half way through the season, we found ourselves equal top of the ladder with Mackie after putting together 4 wins in a row after our 1st round loss. In what can only be described as a “strange” draw in the second half on the season, we had to play Mackie twice in the remaining 4 rounds of the season. After losing 3 out of 4 remaining games after Xmas, we snuck into the finals in 4th place. Our semi final was against Mackie (again). Mackie had only lost 1 game for the season and this game proved to be the best game of the season. We won the toss, chose to bat first and got off to a fantastic start. Connor Byrne and Steve Dagys put on an opening stand of 53 which had Mackie players and supporters feeling very nervous. Mackie took a few quick wickets, but our middle order regrouped to get us to a competitive total of 164. The outstanding batsmen were Wes Agar 43, Will Taylor 36, Steve Dagys 25 and Connor Byrne 17. We took the brave move of opening with Connor’s leggies which paid off in the first over with a wicket. Mackie’s batting depth proved too great, as it had done all season, and they held on to win a thriller in the last over. Our bowling heroes were Wes Agar 6 overs 3/9 and Connor 5 overs 1/9. The most pleasing aspect of the season for me was seeing the improvement and determination in these players. Also, the boys had a heap of fun along the way. Congratulations to our award winners - Cam Watts (Players Player with 102 votes), Will Taylor(Batting Ave 213 runs at 43), Michael Jakes (Bowling Ave with 10 wickets at 9.8) and Josh Dembo (Coaches award). I would like to thank Glenn Taylor and Brett Jakes for all their help on game day. Also a big thank you to Peter Marshall for his hours of coaching. And finally I would like to thank all the boys for their efforts this season and I wish them all the best for next season Cheers Jay Watts Under 16C Twilight

The U16C’s had a successful year finishing the home and away season with 7 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. This qualified us for the semi finals which unfortunately we lost to Moorabbin by 64 runs. Moorabbin were able to recruit some good quality players during the season that bolstered their batting considerably. McKinnon were arguably the strongest bowling team in the competition with a lot of depth to our bowling attack. Congratulations to Tom Harkin for taking out the team bowling award as well as the CMCA 16C bowling award with 21 wickets and a best bowling performance of 5/17. Tom was well supported by Liam Head (13 wickets), Kurt Heigl (13 wickets), Rory Muldoon (7 wickets), Jeremy Lloyd (5 wickets) and Sean Herbstreit (5 wickets). Unfortunately our batting performance did not match the depth of our bowlers and we relied heavily on Jake Halasz, who made 278 runs for the season, followed by Rory Muldoon with 119 runs and Jeremy Lloyd with 106. Jake easily won the batting award and Rory was awarded the best all rounder. The team award, as voted by the playing group went to Harry Amner for his persistence and positive attitude.

The highlight for me this year was the camaraderie and “team first” attitude shown by the players who were aptly led by their captain Jake Halasz. Jake’s competitiveness combined with a sense of fairness saw our team have 7 wins from 9 games, with all players receiving plenty of opportunity to bat up the order or bowl more overs. This gave all players the opportunity to shine and each week a different player would step up and make the difference. With 13 players on our list we were able to field a consistently strong team each week while other teams in the competition scrambled for numbers. This is a credit to the depth of the junior cricket at McKinnon CC and the support and encouragement they receive from Peter Marshall, Paul O’Donnell and Rick Pullman. I would also like to thank the Parents for their support and the assistance from Mike Lloyd, Wayne Herbstreit and the hardest working lady in junior sport, Lisa Halasz, who kept score each week and provided the Boys with healthy nourishment at the break. Well done team. Andrew Head Under 16D Twilight

The U16D Friday night team started the season slowly, but got better as the season went along with all the players showing some encouraging signs at stages during the year. Despite winning only 1 of the 8 games, the boys were competitive in most games, particularly late in the season, including the last 2 games where we went down by less than 10 runs in both against finals teams. Thanks to all the boys for their efforts during the year, all made significant contributions to the team and with a few luck breaks here and there, we could have challenged for a finals position. From an individual point of view, the highlights of the season were: Round 1 – Jacob Thompson (12) and Lachlan Ross (14 n.o.) gritty batting against formidable opposition, 2 wickets each for Wasif Khan and Jonny O’Connor

Round 3 – Seb Ernest (4/ 11) and Pat Eckersall (3/5), with Tom Strudwick (40 n.o.) and Jonny O’Connor (21 n.o.) in a big win

Round 5 – Tom Strudwick (2/21), Anthony Paxinos (21 n.o.) and Matt Faragher (19)

Round 6 – Jacob Thompson (2/23), Seb Ernest (2/13), Matt Faragher (20), Anthony Paxinos (24) and Jacob Thompson (21)

Round 7 – Matt Faragher (30)

Round 8 – Sam Bennoun (3/22), Pat Eckersall (2/11) and Jonny O’Connor (50 n.o.)

Round 9 – Pat Eckersall (2/27), B Quinn (2/19), Anthony Paxinos (2/5) and (41), Tom Strudwick (37) and Seb Ernest (33) Congratulations to our teams award winners: Batting – Anthony Paxinos Bowling – Pat Eckersall Coaches Award – Sam Bennoun Well done to our 2 players that made the U16 Team of the Year, Tom Strudwick and Jonny O’Connor. Finally, thanks to all those parents who helped out during the year, including Bruce Eckersall, Peter Ross, Samin Khan, Elliot Bennoun. But a big thanks go to the great group of mum’s who turned up and cheered on the boys every week. Cheers Andrew O’Connor

Under 14A Twilight

The year got off to a slow start by losing 2 out of our first 3 games. Round 4 saw us playing against Brighton with the loser owning bottom spot. I could tell by the way the boys trained during the week that there pride was on the line which resulted in a 40 run victory. This set the scene for a huge turnaround to our season which saw us not lose another game for the season, and resulted in us winning a well deserved premiership. Our team played and trained really well all season, but one performance stood out from the rest. Round 8 had us playing Beaumaris, batting 1st we were at one stage 3-104 of 18 overs which suddenly turned into 9-114 off 24, but a brilliant partnership of 87 saw us finish on 9-201 off our 40 overs, with Shubham Bhargave tragically stranded on 99 not out, one of the best knocks I have seen him play. He couldn’t have done this without a gutsy and well-thought innings of 22 not out by Nick Braddon. There were plenty of highlights throughout the year, too many to mention here but congratulations to all of the boys on a terrific season. I would also like to thank Jon Don Paul, Liam O’Brien and Reuben Daniel who all played a part during our season. The whole team is a great bunch of kids who were a pleasure to coach. I look forward to seeing all of you next season. Thanks to the senior players and supporters who came and supported during the finals and to all the parents who helped out throughout the season. Special thanks to Angela Granter for her help with the scores and emails, and to Karl Ludik, John Braddon & Suhas Bhargave for scoring and umpiring - always appreciated. A report of the Grand Final is provided below. Paul Cox McKinnon struck the first blow, winning the toss and deciding to bat against Hampton, and got off to a reasonable start. Losing 2 wickets in the first 10 overs didn't help, but then a wonderful 60 run partnership between Will Granter (34) and Joel Ludik (47) steadied the ship. The loss of Will’s wicket saw Aman Prasad join Joel at the crease and they both took the game away from Hampton. Joel took 17 off one over including 4 fours in a row and Aman proceeded to play the way he often does, making a quick 42 which included 3 sixes and 2 fours. Once Aman departed there were some great cameos by the lower order, highlighted by excellent running between the wickets. We managed to score a very competitive total of 179. On Day 2 the boys knew they had to bowl and field well, and once again our warm up before the game was dreadful! I knew this was a good omen, however, as it was consistent with our whole season. We couldn’t have got off to a better start with Aman Prasad and Dylan Thomas bowling very well. Before long Hampton was 5/28 with Aman claiming all 5. A couple of their batsmen showed a little bit of fight until Aman was brought back into the attack and deservedly grabbed his 6th wicket (6-19 off 8 overs, 5 bowled and 1 lbw). He had plenty of support with Luke Peynenborg, Jock Dunlop, and Joel Ludik all getting 1 wicket each. Fittingly, the last wicket fell when Joel Ludik and Jarryd Cox combine to perfect a run out, capping off an excellent batting, bowling and fielding display by the team. Aman Prasad was awarded his Player of the Match Award at the CMCA Presentation Night. Well done all!!

Under 14B Twilight

McKinnon Under 14B Twilight won only one game for the season, however we lost a couple of games by less than 10 runs which was disappointing for the boys. We struggled for numbers this year, we probably only had 11 boys for 4 or 5 weeks but despite that the boys rallied around each other and supported each other very well. The team improved throughout the season in all areas of the game. It has been a pleasure for me to have been involved with such a great bunch of boys. I wish them all the best in their cricketing endeavours ahead and I hope I continue to see them all around the club in years to come. I would like to thank a few people for their help throughout the season:

- To Danny and Danielle, Paul, Peter, Nain, Randy and Cam Dunlop for doing the scoring and helping with umpiring each week. Thank you all very much

- Thank you to Katiba’s Mum Shaki for supplying water melon and oranges during the tea break. - The parents for staying and supporting the team. Your support is very much appreciated by the

boys thank you. - Thank you to Rick, Adam and John for supplying boys from the Saturday team to play for us when

we were short. - A big thank you to Sheryl for putting in the scores each week and for your correspondence

throughout the year. You have made my job a lot easier - Thank you to Rick and junior coordinator Paul O’Donnell for their help throughout the year. - And finally a thank you to Teri and Joshy for putting up with Cameron and I talking cricket for the

last 6 months. The bowling award went to Sam Mack - Sam took 12 wickets at 11.6. He bowled very tightly all season and moved the ball both in the air and off the pitch. He also made 117 runs and is a very capable slips fielder.

Sam is good in the field and keeps the boys going by talking up the bowlers. Every year I coach Sam he wins an award and that is testament to his ability and his competitive nature. The batting award went to Cameron Stewart with 139 runs at an average of 23. Cameron had a consistent year with the bat and is a very good keeper and fielder. He bowled some wrist spin and got 2 wickets. Cameron is very enthusiastic in the field and is always trying the keep the tempo up. The most improved award went to Katiba Nainhabo. Katiba was one of only 3 or 4 boys who played every game. He trained regularly and improved as a result. He made 102 runs and took 2 wickets although he bowled a lot better than his figures show. Katiba bowled with good pace and his line and length was good. The coaches award went to Jonathan Don Paul. Jonathan is a very easy boy to coach; he is very attentive and is always smiling. He opens the batting each game and always gives his best for the team. He made 51 runs and took 4 wickets. It has been my pleasure to coach Jonathan 2 or 3 times now. Congratulations Jonathan winning this award. Noel Stewart

Under 14A

With a young team and only one Saturday Grade, this season was always going to be a challenge for us. We had some movement on occasions between the U/14 Twilight & Saturday teams to keep us on the field and we managed to have some great performances and a couple of fantastic wins against Washington Park and Parkdale United. This was great for the boys’ confidence and they played some tough opposition & learnt much along the way and had good fun. Congratulations to the award winners: Joshua Paul on wining the Batting; Will Canning winning the Bowling; Ben Adams took the Fielding Award and the Coach’s Award went to Sam Clark. Thanks to all who assisted throughout the season, especially John Molineux for scoring and managing so well. We hope to see all the boys back next season! Under 12A

The Under 12A Team this season worked hard and all players developed, but it was definitely a tough competition in A Grade. Two wins for the season did not do our efforts justice. We did, however, against the odds, have a brilliant and exciting Lightning Premiership on one Sunday in February, where we did the McKinnon tradition proud and won the title! This was the 4th year in a row McKinnon has won this title. Congratulations to all the boys on this achievement. Congratulations to all for their efforts throughout the season, where everyone stood up at some stage and showed improvement. Bowling award went to Campbell Tweedie, Batting to Ryan Byrnes, Team Award to Hamish Dunlop and Coaches’ Award to Brendon Guy. Thanks to all the parents who have assisted throughout the season and a big thank to Malcolm Gray, who produced brilliant reports on the Ipad! Good luck to all the boys next season, whether in U/12 or U/14.

Under 12D East

I very much enjoyed co-coaching the U12Ds with Stephen Canning. Although we were unable to pull off any wins during the season, we were always competitive and played the game in great spirit. Our running between the wickets improved as the season went on and this was no better highlighted then by Boopa Munasinghe who won the batting average despite playing several games in the U12As. Jordan Tranter was always a keen competitor and his diligence in attacking the stumps won him the bowling average. Ross McNaughton was consistently brilliant in the field. Oliver King in his first season of cricket was always enthusiastic and his batting came on leaps and bounds as the season wore on. Well done boys, hope to see you all back next year.

Cheers Paddy

Under 12E East (modified rules)

I would like to thank all the Under 12 Modified children that I coached in the 2012-13 season It was great to see the improvement of all the children from their first training session, compared to the last game of the season. This was evident in the amount of runs they were scoring, wickets taken, less no-balls, running between the wickets, general fielding and encouraging their team mates. We struggled for wins (2) during the season with 9 -10 players each week, with our best win coming in the last round. It was a great way to finish the season, and the joy was evident by the smiles on all the children's faces, as well as the parents and coach. Congratulations to the following award winners. Batting: Noah Spitz 97 runs, Bowling: Kampi Nainhabo 10 wickets, Team Award: Jamin Austin 74 runs and Coaches Award: Janko Hattingh 89 runs 7 wickets. A special thanks to Gavin Spitz for being the team manager. Thank you to the parents for their support and encouragement and those who helped out at training and on match days. Thanks also to Rick Pullman and Paul O'Donnell for their help during the season. It was a pleasure to be part of a great team environment with the children and their parents. I am looking forward to seeing the improvement continue in the 2013-14 season at McKinnon Cricket Club. Shane Austin

MILO Cricket

Milo in2CRICKET This season we had a great bunch of kids keen to join in, have fun and play cricket. They were a pleasure to coach. We had great help from eager parents and volunteers such as senior players Nick Jeffery, Josh Dixon and Jacob Stone. We enjoyed lots of fun games and skill based activities and these were put in to practice during some of the more popular games, such as Rapid Fire, the Run Out Game and, of course, Pairs Cricket. Ten of our participants were lucky enough to play on the MCG during the Boxing Day lunch break. It was a great experience for all. The kids were so excited, but not as much as the parents! Thanks to Max Fato for taking them all out on to “The G” One of the most pleasing aspects for me was to see the continued attendance of all children. Against the normal trend, we had almost 100% attendance every week for the whole season. We hope to see everyone back involved in2Cricket next season! Paul O’Donnell Milo T20Blast! We had 8 enthusiastic players enjoying this new exciting programme. T20Blast fills the gap between Milo in2CRICKET and Junior Cricket. It is similar to what is known as Kanga 8’s - 8 a side 16 overs, pairs bat for 4 overs, each player bowls 2 overs. There we double run zones straight past bowler and free hits. This is a fast paced competitive game against a different club each week played in the outfield, with Milo T20Blast equipment. Our venue this season was Boss James Reserve in Hampton. It would be fair to say our McKinnon team starred, scoring lots of runs and taking heaps of wickets. I think we only lost one game but the key was that all the team had great fun. Collectively they showed great teamwork and improvement in their batting, bowling and fielding skills during the season. On one occasion Rob Quiney, playing for Australia at the time and James Sutherland (CEO of Cricket Australia) paid a visit to game day. As a result of their participation in T20 Blast, several of the team members were invited to the MCG, on different occasions, where they went on the ground and received a signed cap from one of the Stars players. A definite highlight for the kids and parents!

Thanks to all who helped, especially to Gordon Grewcock and Graham Hill for coaching coordinating on match day. We look forward to seeing the group at T20Blast or Junior Cricket next season. Lisa Hill T20Blast! Manager

PAST PLAYERS ASSOCIATION REPORT The Past Players Association Annual Luncheon was held on December 8, and was again an outstanding success. Approximately 60 members attended the luncheon; our highest attendance to date, and it was pleasing to see many new members at this function for the first time. Mark Anderson, a former McKinnon player, who is employed at the Melbourne Cricket Club as Club Manager, was our guest speaker, and he provided an interesting insight into the workings of the Melbourne Cricket Club, and spoke about some of the interesting characters who have played cricket at Melbourne. The feedback we have received from the luncheon has been very positive, so we are confident we can continue to grow this function in the years ahead. We would like to acknowledge the sponsorship received from the Ormond McKinnon Bendigo Bank towards the luncheon. Their support was appreciated. Throughout the year, the committee decided that we would take over the maintenance of the premiership photos displayed in the clubrooms. These photos provide an important pictorial history, so we consider this to be a worthwhile project and something the General Committee supports. PLAYER OF THE YEAR NIGHT This year the Player of the Year Night was held at the South Oakleigh Club and I am pleased to say that we made a triumphant return. A great night was had by all who attended and we even got our bond back. Proceedings commenced with an impassioned welcome from The Prez and continued under the experienced guidance of our MC Jason Watts. Batting and Bowling awards were presented along with our Club’s Prestigious awards, the Lawrie Gillott medal won by Nick Sinclair was presented by Club stalwart Paul Cox who delivered a memorable summary of Nick’s performances over the season. Peter Marshall then presented the Charles (Chucky) Greenough Award to Brendan Dawes for the Under 21 Player of the Year. It is always great to remember Chucky at this time for the vibrant young person that he was. Then Jason Watts announced Wayne White as the winner of the Peter Watts Medal for the Club Champion and once again regaled us with yet another story about Peter’s exploits at the club - I wonder if he will ever run out of them. The Ken Hilton Player of the Year winner, Wayne White was announced by Rick Pullman. Thank you to Amanda for her slick performance on the audio visual equipment, and also for her assistance in organising the night. Jill Watts

THE BAGGY PURPLE Following an initiative from the Committee last Winter, a project was undertaken to produce a 1st XI player list for McKinnon Cricket Club, with each player being allocated a number on the list corresponding to when debuting in the side. This number would be embroidered on the club cap, the ‘Baggy Purple’. Due to no club records existing for the first couple of decades of the Club’s history, it was decided that numbers 1 to 11 be left unallocated – a symbol of the 11 players in a cricket side. This concept was officially launched before the 1st XI’s match this season versus Bentleigh, where a number of past McKinnon CC greats were asked to present a cap to a member of the current team. The full list of the players can be found at end of the annual report. Presentation of numbered caps to the 1st XI that played Bentleigh on January 19th, 2013 –
