The cougar has been the official mascot of SIUE since 1967. A live cougar named Chimega actually lived on campus until 1985. Today, the spirit of the beloved mascot lives on through a 14-foot-tall bronze statue which graces the entrance to the Morris University Center.

Sustainability and living green are important at SIUE. The University is continually looking for ways to ensure a healthy and sustainable campus life. Here are some examples of what green looks like at SIUE.

You can choose from more than 40 courses with a sustainability focus in fields as diverse as biology, engineering, business, anthropology and philosophy. You can minor in environmental science or pursue an undergraduate specialization in ecology, evolution and environment.

The Student Organization for Sustainability (SOS) gives students the opportunity to promote sustainability awareness on campus and in the community. SOS hosts an educational radio show and coordinates activities such as campus clean-up days and an annual Earth Day celebration.

It’s easy to use reusable water containers and reduce the number of plastic water bottles used at SIUE. The campus community has easy access to water-bottle filling stations which are located in many campus buildings.

The Gardens at SIUE is a 35-acre public garden and living laboratory dedicated to supporting education and research. Environmental sustainability and stewardship are cornerstones of The Gardens’ vision, providing a unique opportunity to research and implement innovative green technologies.

SIUE and the School of Dental Medicine offer a unique combined arts and sciences dental curriculum leading to a bachelor of science and a doctor of dental medicine to a select number of students. If admitted, you’ll complete the three-year pre-professional portion on the Edwardsville campus and the four-year professional component on our Alton campus.

1. Give Kids a Smile Each year, “Give Kids a Smile Day” treats hundreds of area children, providing thousands of dollars worth of free dental treatment, including examinations, X-rays, cleanings, fluoride treatments, fillings and extractions.

2. Community Outreach Each year, students manage more than 30,000 visits for more than 8,000 patients in the School’s dental clinics and offer oral health treatments, screenings and education to more than 10,000 people annually through community outreach.

3. Top-Notch Faculty Students receive hands-on, innovative instruction from dedicated faculty members who bring the latest knowledge and skills to the classroom, as well as a passion to motivate and engage students.

4. Student Success The Class of 2011 earned a 98 percent first-time pass rate on the National Board Dental Examination (NBDE), Part II.

Transfer Admission RequirementsStudents who transfer with 30 semester hours or more from an accredited institution will be admitted to SIUE with a minimum cumulative 2.0/4.0 (C) grade point average.

Students who transfer with fewer than 30 semester hours must also submit a high school transcript and ACT/SAT test scores. These students must meet freshman admission requirements.

Transfer CreditSIUE general education requirements are considered met if

� Students have received an A.A., A.S. or A.S.A. degree from an accredited two-year institution that conforms to the Illinois Community College Board

� Students have satisfied the IAI General Education Core Curriculum: itransfer.org

The transcripts of students who have not earned an A.A. or A.S. degree, or those transferring from schools outside Illinois, will be evaluated course by course

Other Acceptable Credit

� SIUE accepts Advanced Placement (AP) and some CLEP credit toward a baccalaureate degree

SIUE does not limit the number of transfer credits from other schools; however, at least 60 semester hours of credit must be earned at a four-year college or university. At least 30 of the 60 hours must be earned at SIUE. SIUE does not offer credit for hours earned at institutions that are not regionally accredited.
