Welcome to our new look Whirlow Grange Christian Spirituality Centre programme for 2013!

There is a wealth of opportunity and interest for you on the following pages. At the heart of our

work, both at Whirlow and out and about in South Yorkshire, is the desire to seek the guidance of

the Holy Spirit and to explore the extraordinary Way of Christ. We are here to help nurture people

who are tentatively taking their first steps on the spiritual journey or just fumbling for the map in

their rucksack, as well as those who are a little more experienced on their walk with God.

Whirlow Spirituality Centre provides a sanctuary place for people to discover who they are meant

to be in God’s economy. We aspire to be a place where people can be real about their spiritual

journey, queries and quests. The Chapel of the Holy Spirit provides for many a space apart, a

spiritual haven, a place of encounter and re-sourcing.

We offer a weekly contemplative Eucharist, monthly Reflective Worship, library resource and on-

going programme of courses and retreats for people from very different contexts and church

backgrounds and denominations (or none). Delighting in the mystery of scripture and sacrament,

word and wisdom, we offer accessible and life-giving ways to celebrate and engage in God’s good

creation, Jesus’ unconditional love and the gift-giving and spiritual discernment of the Holy Spirit.

Spirituality Centre Staff

Revd Philip Roderick, the Bishop of Sheffield’s Adviser in

Spirituality, Chaplain and Programme Director at Whirlow

enjoying with anyone who wants to join in, the rhythms and

harmonies of percussive chant.

Karen Colley, Spirituality Programme Co-ordinator at Whirlow Grange.

Karen enjoys most things creative such as reading, baking, and art and

crafts as well as relaxing with husband Mark and their four cats.

Philip and Karen work with a wonderful team to provide and support the

worship and well-being, the spirituality and sustenance of all who come

to the centre, be it for an hour, a day or a week.

Becoming Who We Are

Saturday 9th February (9.45-3.45)

Led by Revd. Richard Giles

Cost £21

Becoming who we are. How might the local church be

transformed from a collection of individuals into a holy,

priestly, pilgrim community?

This event will examine our preparation for, and planning of,

worship; our full, active, and conscious participation in it, and

our making ready the room.

About Richard Richard Giles has served as a parish priest on both sides of

the Atlantic, notably in West Yorkshire and Philadelphia. He

has written widely on how we do worship and how we create

spaces in which worship can happen. Other of his books look

at the spirituality of leadership and the gift of the Anglican

tradition.

Followers of the Way: Buddhists and Christians in

Encounter

Saturday 16th February (9.45-3.45)

Led by Revd. Janet Williams

Cost £21

A day's exploratory journey into some of the spiritual

practices where Buddhist and Christians meet one another

on the way, including self-emptying, going beyond words,

limitless walking, recollection of 'the name of the Lord', and

development of nondual consciousness. To do this we will be

drawing on the wisdom and wit of the ancients, with

possible appearances of dragons, tigers, and oxen.

The great historian Arnold Toynbee suggested half-a-century

ago that "When the history of our time is written a thousand

years hence, it will stress not so much the war in Vietnam,

the conflict of communism and capitalism, or racial strife,

but rather the interpenetration of Christianity and

Buddhism." This will be a one-day workshop with just a little

commentary on the current state of that interpenetration.

About Janet Janet is a priest in Gloucester Diocese, and Gloucester Tutor

for the West of England Ministry Training Course. She has

taught philosophy, theology and Buddhism in a range of

colleges and universities in both England and Japan; her

academic interests centre on the contemplative traditions of

both Christianity and Buddhism, and in particular the

patristic period and Japanese Zen.

Christianity & Contemporary Culture: Challenges &

Opportunities

Saturday 2nd March (9.45-3.45)

Led by Canon Prof. Martyn Percy

Cost £21

In these talks, Martyn Percy explores the challenges and

opportunities facing the church today. Combining biblical

insights, practical theology and cultural analysis, he will

examine the mission, ministry, hope, renewal and resilience

of the Church within contemporary society. With all the

challenges facing the church, how can we gain some new

perspectives and clear-sighted hopefulness that will help to

build a fresh confidence in our ministries, whilst drawing on

the wisdom of our rich tradition? Together, we shall explore

how to move forward as a church, and continue to offer our

Christian hope to a new generation.

About Martyn Martyn Percy is Principal of Cuddesdon – incorporating Ripon

College, the Oxford Ministry Course (OMC) and the West of

England Ministerial Training Course (WEMTC). He is also a

Professor of Theological Education at the University of

London, and an Honorary Canon of Salisbury Cathedral.

Martyn also works in media and consumer self-regulation,

and has served as a Director of the Advertising Standards

Authority, and the as an Independent Adjudicator for the

Portman Group. He currently serves as a Commissioner for

the Direct Marketing Authority, and as an advisor to the

British Board of Film Classification.

Messy Church – What is it all about?

Saturday16th March (9.45-3.45)

Led by Capt. Clynt French

Cost £21

This is a workshop for those who are wanting to know what

Messy Church is all about. Have you heard about Messy

Church and wondered if your Church could also be a part of

this exciting way of engaging with families who wouldn’t

normally step through the doors of a church on a Sunday

morning? Have you been thinking about starting a Messy

Church but been unsure where to begin? Well, this

workshop will help address your questions and give you

some practical ideas to go away with. There will be

discussions and an opportunity to create our very own

Messy Church session!

About Clynt I am a Church Army Evangelist working as a Fresh

Expressions worker for St. John’s Park. I am the regional co

-ordinator for Messy Church and I have been running a

Messy Church in a local primary school for 3 years. A church

plant has grown out of our Messy Church and this has helped

us to build stronger relationships with some of the families

and to go deeper on a spiritual level.

Myers Briggs Workshop

Thursday 25th April (9.45-3.45)

Led by Revd. Pat Holmes

Cost £31

During the day we will explore the theory of psychological

type using experiential workshop activities designed to

highlight the differences in psychological type between

individuals in respect of how they prefer to receive

information and make decisions based upon it. By the end of

the day participants should know their own type formula and

have some understanding of what that means for them.

Please note that a questionnaire will need to be

completed and returned by 4th April to determine

your type in order to participate in the day.

About Pat Pat is an ordained priest and has worked in the Wakefield

Diocese for the past fifteen years. She is married, has two

grown up children and three grandsons aged 8, 5 and 2. She

has been a qualified Myers Briggs Practitioner for six years

and has completed a Masters degree in the practical

implications of Psychological Type Theory in relation to

preaching, ministry and spirituality. She has led workshops

relating Personality Type to preaching, stress, spirituality,

Teamwork and ministry at the Mirfield Centre, Yorkshire

Ministry Course and within the Wakefield Diocese.

Spiritual Warfare?

Thursday 9th May (9.45-3.45)

Led by Sr. Vanessa Kirby & Sr. Louise Yaull

Cost £21

When out and about in the community Vanessa Kirby became

aware of places that felt ‘spiritually dark’ and would

specifically pray for God’s presence and peace in these areas.

These experiences have led her to begin explore how spiritual

warfare can be manifested within our communities.

Louise Yaull’s personal interest in spiritual warfare has grown

from encountering people over the years who have been set

free and found healing through prayer ministry. This has led

her to look afresh at the biblical perspective and Christian

teaching about the spiritual world, even when it seems to

clash with Western rationalism.

Drawing on their own experiences and ministry, Vanessa and

Louise would like to explore through this awareness day the

relevance and reality of spiritual warfare in a way that

enables discussion and reflection to occur from a variety of

perspectives. The aim is that participants will leave with an

awareness of spiritual warfare and how this can impact our

daily lives as Christians.

About Vanessa & Louise Sister Vanessa Kirby is a Church Army Evangelist and has

recently taken up post as Dean of Community based within

the Wilson Carlile Centre in Sheffield. Prior to this Vanessa

worked for 6 years with vulnerable women within the city,

developing relationships of trust and exploring creative

expressions of Christian community.

Sister Louise Yaull is a Church Army Evangelist and is

currently the Centre Evangelist

at the Wilson Carlile Centre, the

home of Church Army. Louise

has spent the last five years

ministering as a chaplain in GP

surgeries as well as in the city

centre.

Myers Briggs on Spirituality

Thursday 23rd May (9.45-3.45)

Led by Revd. Pat Holmes

Cost £21

Following on from the workshop on 25th April this will be an

opportunity for those who have already completed a basic

workshop and know their own type preferences. This day

will explore the impact that psychological type has on

spirituality and prayer and help people to find ways of

engaging with the spiritual that best suit them as

individuals.

This workshop is aimed at those who attended our

initial workshop on 25th April or who have

completed the Myers Briggs course elsewhere.

Prayer Basics -Experiencing God:

A Practical Workshop (9.45-3.45)

Tuesday 4th June

Led by Jackie Thackray & Stephanie Parkes

Cost £21

As we still and focus our busy minds and selves we

experience God in our prayer. It sounds so simple but many

people find this difficult to do which may be due to their

preferred learning style (visual, auditory or kinaesthetic).

E.g. When you concentrate, do you become distracted by:

a) untidiness,

b) activity, or

c) sounds around you?

The answer to questions like this may help to indicate the

preferred learning style which in turn may influence your

style of prayer. We seek to provide a practical introduction

to a variety of basic tools and skills (e.g. icons, The Jesus

Prayer, art and poetry) aimed at different learning styles.

If you have your own drawing board or art materials (not

oils or acrylics) please bring them along with you.

About Jackie and Stephanie Jackie and Stephanie are friends and happily retired early

years/primary teachers. They are currently practicing

Spiritual Accompaniment for Derby Diocese and form part of

Derby Diocese Spirituality Group. Jackie and Stephanie have

different personalities and learning styles which is reflected

in their spiritual expression. Stephanie enjoys praying by

using The Daily Office, Lectio Divina and Icons whilst Jackie

enjoys praying without words using paint, clay and music.

Both are passionate about encouraging and enabling others

to explore the

many different

styles of

prayer

according to

how they

learn.

Have you seen our flyers for Simple Quiet Days, an

opportunity to spend a day quietly alone in reflection and

prayer? Have you found the idea attractive but also

daunting?

Maybe you felt 'what would I do in silence for hours on end?!'

If so, why not come to this 'taster day'. It will be a gentle

introduction to a Simple Quiet Day, with more structure and

advice on how you might spend these precious hours with

God, away from the distractions of daily life.

All you need to bring is yourself.

Suggestions and materials for the day will be provided, but

they're not prescriptive, so if you have something particular

that you want to focus on or spend some time with during the

Playing with Parables

Tuesday 10th September (9.45-3.45)

Led by Kathryn Lord

Cost £21

A retreat to explore parables using the art of Godly Play.

Godly Play helps with our spiritual development by enabling

us to enter the stories and relate them to our own personal

experience. There are deep roots to Godly Play. It draws on

the tradition of the ancient practice of oral storytelling and is

connected to the human need for deep play. Storytelling and

play are used to create existential meaning.

Each parable will be explored first using story and wondering

in a group circle followed by time to respond as individuals

with a wide variety of creative options including paint,

fabrics, clay, a sand labyrinth, construction materials,

writing, and using the outside space.

During the course of the day there will be the opportunity to

enter into a number of parables and to make connections

with our lives.

The stories will be told on the floor in the beautiful chapel.

Those who are able to will be sitting on the floor so please

wear comfortable clothes. You may find it helpful to bring a

cushion or a stool to sit on. (If you need to sit on a chair then

this will not preclude you from the activities)

About Kathryn Kathryn Lord is experienced in leading Godly Play sessions

with adults and children. She is an accredited trainer for

Godly Play UK and is very active in training adults in the art

of Godly Play.

Pray & Love: The Jesus Journey - Simple Study

Series (1)

Wednesday 18th September (7-9pm)

Led by Revd. Philip Roderick

Cost £6

After a short introduction to different aspects of the topic by

Philip on each of the three evenings, participants will spend

some time in personal space with an article, book or books

they bring with them or in company with the plentiful

resources of the Spirituality Centre. The focus will be to trace

any connections between different facets of prayer and love.

After a period of individual study the group will draw

together to share insights and reflections. Each evening will

be a stand-alone but if you are able to make two or all of the

sessions that will enrich the experience. The fruits of this

short series will weave into a larger programme entitled

“Street Level: Spirituality as Mission” that Philip is

developing.

This is the first of three study and stillness

evenings, each a standalone event.

About Philip Philip Roderick is the Bishop of Sheffield’s Adviser in

Spirituality (www.whirlowgrange.co.uk/spirituality), Founder-

Director of The Quiet Garden Movement, a worldwide ministry

of hospitality and prayer (www.quietgarden.org), and

Community Leader of Contemplative Fire a network fresh

expression of church (www.contemplativefire.org). Philip

plays and prays with ethnic percussion and the ambient Hang.

He delights in creating percussive chants with scripture texts

and exploring body prayer from the Jewish and Christian

traditions. Philip is married to Jill and has two children,

Hannah & Justin.

Seeing You/Seeing Me

Wednesday 25th September

Led by Karen Colley (7-9pm)

Cost £6

Who do you see when you look in the mirror? Who do you

think others see when they look at you, and how do you

look at others? Perhaps more importantly, who do think

God sees when he looks at you?

This is a reflective evening using Biblical passages and

other material, spending time reminding ourselves that we

are ‘Fearfully and wonderfully made’ (Psalm 139). Although

we are made in God’s image, we are all on a journey to

becoming more in his likeness.

About Karen Karen is the Spirituality Centre’s Programme Co-ordinator.

Karen’s own background and faith journey has given her a

personal perspective on what it is to look but not see both

yourself and others. Karen is married to Mark and enjoys

reading and creative hobbies in her spare time.

‘Your One Wild and Precious Life’:

Hearing a new call from God later in life

Saturday 12th October (9.45-3.45)

Led by Janet Morley

Cost £21

The day is aimed at those who are well past mid-life but

probably not in the last phase of our lives (55+). Conscious of

mortality, perhaps experiencing some health or energy

constraints, but seeking a direction and focus different from

those we pursued as younger adults, we are interested in

exploring Mary Oliver’s question ‘what will you do with your

one wild and precious life?’

Other people’s expectations may not always be our best

guide at this stage, as they may tend to ask us to go on doing

what we have always done well. The day will give us the

chance to:

review the story of our adult lives so far, and the

observable strengths that emerge

consider what part of our ‘shadow’ selves or early

dreams are yet to be developed

using the Bible, consider what lies at the heart of

our current spirituality

think which habitual tasks or roles it may now be

time to lay down

notice the opportunities, new calling or fresh tasks

that may be offered to us now

practise listening for the promptings of God’s spirit

as we face the next phase of life.

About Janet Janet Morley is a freelance writer and trainer who has

worked as an adult educator for Christian Aid and the

Methodist Church, and has published several books of

prayers, poems and liturgies.

Her most recent book, ‘The

Heart’s Time’, which became a

best seller in Lent 2012,

explores contemporary and

traditional poetry as a

resource for the spiritual life.

She is also an active

grandmother and supporter of

frail elderly relatives.

Encountering God in Contemporary Art:

from An Unmade Bed to the Precious Blood

Saturday 26th October (9.45-3.45)

Led by The Very Reverend Peter Bradley

Cost £21

Many Christians value the great tradition of Christian art

but struggle to engage with the work of contemporary

artists. On this study day, we will explore: how to look at

forms of contemporary art, some of the themes found in

contemporary art, and how we might incorporate looking at

contemporary art into our life of prayer.

There will be an opportunity to make art ourselves in

response to what we see.

No craft skills or ability at drawing are required, just a

commitment to look really deeply at art.

About Peter The Very Reverend Peter Bradley was appointed Dean of

Sheffield in 2003. For the past four years he has been

studying Jewish approaches to studying the Scriptures, and

exploring how these can be appropriated by Christians,

focussing on listening to God in depth.

‘Just Call Me Lopez’: A Story of Imperfection & Grace

Friday 31st May—Sunday 2nd June

Led by Margaret Silf with Revd Philip Roderick

for Contemplative Fire

Cost £12 Fri eve only/£180 res/£130 non-res

During this weekend we will explore some aspects of the story

of Ignatius Loyola (‘Lopez’) – a very flawed individual who was

radically open to the flow of divine grace, and became a guide

for many. We will take a fresh look at Ignatius’ story, and

connect its flow with the movements of our own lives and

hearts, encouraging us to discover the story of God’s grace

active in our own imperfection.

The weekend starts with supper, Friday 6pm (for residents) and

evening session for all at 7.30pm. Beginning with a walk

through some of the main movements of Ignatius’ early life,

then meeting the motherless child; the renegade teenager; the

flamboyant courtier; the stubborn and arrogant soldier; the

defeated warrior; the disgruntled convalescent and the

frustrated day-dreamer, and God’s presence to all of these.

During the rest of the weekend, we will reflect more fully on

the experience of disappointment, failure and

despair. and how we might respond to them more

creatively

the possibility of mystical experience, and the

extraordinary grace that dwells in the heart of

ordinary experience.

the struggle with tensions, seeking the grace, in

Ignatius’ words, of ‘tuning the human instrument to

God’.

The retreat is based on the book of the same name (Loyola

Press, 2012) and assumes no prior knowledge of Ignatian

spirituality. Friday evening is bookable as a standalone event.

About Margaret Margaret was born and raised in

Sheffield, is the author of many books

for spiritual pilgrims and spends much

of her time ‘on the road’, facilitating

retreats and accompanying others on

their journeys.

Listening for the Whispers of God: A Journey into

Creative Journaling

Saturday 6th 9.45am —Sunday 7th July 3pm

Led by Karen Herrick

Cost £80

During the two days of quiet, prayerful reflection, we will

explore the mapping of our own individual journey, through

the medium of creative journaling. We will use colour,

collage, paint and the written word to explore our own

personal conversations with God through basic

scrapbooking techniques. There will be an emphasis on

quiet, stillness & individual journeying to explore God’s

quiet whispers to us in our often over busy lives.

We will begin with introductions to collage techniques for

creative journaling with the opportunity for practical hands-

on exploration of the materials to create a personal page of

conversation with God. We will each have the opportunity to

begin a creative journal that may help us to map and

remember our own journey; tell others our story and make

the most of our journey through life by listening to God’s

whispers along the way.

Experience is not necessary, the emphasis will be on

allowing the power of God’s gift of creativity & play to draw

us closer to Himself, rather than on a polished end product.

About Karen Karen is a self employed creative practitioner working

across the East Midlands in the areas of arts and health,

primary education and family learning. She is a textile

artist, specialising in layered mixed media pieces and

appliquéd banners. Karen is also an experienced teacher

and has worked as a children’s & community worker in the

Church of England, involved in

Fresh Expressions of Church. She

is a spiritual director with a

passion for creativity, colour &

contemplative prayer and

enjoys facilitating others to

draw closer to God.

A Mid Week Ignatian Retreat

Monday 19th 5pm —Friday 23rd August 2pm

Led by Revd. Graham Pigott

Cost £280

... a time to be quiet, to be with yourself and also seek to be

with God, helped through meeting each day with a spiritual

guide, with whom you can share your experience of being in

silence and be given suggestions of ways in which you might

seek to pray, listen to and discern your experiences, and pray

imaginatively and meditatively with Scripture.

There will be time to relax, walk and be creative, in between

times of personal prayer, silent meals and a daily Eucharist.

This kind of retreat can literally be ‘a treat’ because it offers

time away from the normal busyness of life in a safe, caring,

quiet space in which you can rest, relax and be renewed.

You will be giving God time and space to be present in His

love, mercy and grace, and also be giving yourself time to

listen and discern how God is with you.

About Graham Revd Graham Pigott is a retired Anglican priest linked with

Whirlow Christian Spirituality Centre. He has had many years

of experience being alongside others in their spiritual

journeys, leading quiet days and individually guided retreats,

accompaniment. He in indebted to Ignatian spirituality for his

own training and development and has a special interest in

silence, art and spirituality, and

contemplative prayer.

Our Journey into God with our Friends in Heaven

Saturday 7th 9.45am —Sunday 8th Sept 3pm

Led by Bishop Jack Nicholls

Cost £80 res/ £60 non res

There are two ways of regarding the Saints. Some see them

as dead heroes whose examples and lives are to be both

admired and followed. Others, including myself, see them

as our friends in Heaven whose joy it is to accompany us on

our journey into God. During this weekend we shall explore

some of the ways in which the Saints of the Orthodox

Churches have helped one particular pilgrim on his journey.

There will be considerable periods of silence but also some

opportunity to share our reflections in a relaxed

atmosphere.

About Bishop Jack As Bishop of Sheffield Jack tried to champion causes in

society which he believes impinge on the Gospel message,

particularly in regard to the Christian Doctrine of Man as

made in the image of God and has a long standing

relationship with Whirlow Grange. In retirement he is an

Honorary Assistant Bishop in the Dioceses of Derby and

Manchester; President of the Actors Church Union and

National Chaplain of the Church Lads and Church Girls

Brigade. Since 2007 Jack has been Prelate of the Most

Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem

which is both a Christian Order of Chivalry and an

international humanitarian

organisation taking its name

from the Eye Hospital in

Jerusalem with its clinics in

Hebron, Anabta and Gaza, the

flagship of its healing work in

over forty countries.

In addition to all this Jack

enjoys singing, reading

history and detective fiction;

after dinner speaking and

making pilgrimages to Mount

Athos and Russia to visit his favourite saint, Seraphim of

Sarov.

‘Be still and know…’ Silent Retreat

Friday 15th —Sunday 17th November

Led by Revd. Graham Pigott

Cost £180

This retreat offers…

… a time to quiet, to relax and be still, and discover the

value of being in silence as a way to be with yourself and

with God. This retreat will provide a safe place, away from

the busyness of life, in which to rest and be renewed through

leisurely exploring ways of being with and listening to God

through prayerfully being with scripture and your own

experience. This can give God an opportunity to convey his

silent presence, reveal his love and help you come to

recognise God’s ‘still small voice’ within you.

First time? Never been on retreat before? Unsure?

This could be an ideal opportunity for you. The retreat will be

suitable for those who have not been on retreat before and

for those who have not experienced an extended period of

silence, or want to share in an extended silence and prayer

again. There will be introductions to ways of being in silence,

ways of praying, ways of listening and seeking to discern how

we can be more aware of God. There will be opportunities for

personal reflection and beginning to appreciate what may be

happening in the quiet.

About Graham Revd Graham Pigott is a retired

in Four Quartets: “And all shall be well/When the tongues of flame are in-folded/Into the crowned knot of

fire/And the fire and the rose are one”.

Extended Courses

Spiritual Growth & Transformation (SG&T)

Over the course of 6/7 months participants are given a safe and sacred space in which to

explore, reflect and share their own experience of their relationship with God, and themes such

as images of God, images of self, the spiritual journey and personal call are explored.

This is not an academic course and the most important requirement is that participants are

willing to enter into the journey, seeking deeper relationship with God and to grow in faith and

develop skills listening to God, scripture, self and others.

For further details of the SG&T course in 2013/14 please contact the Spirituality Centre Office on

0114 2353704/[email protected]

Art of Spiritual Accompaniment (ASA)

This course, running over 5/6 months, builds on what was experienced in SG&T but is more

focused on developing the skills of discerning listening, exploring and practicing a range of

approaches to prayer and to introduce the practice of Spiritual Accompaniment. It’s particularly

aimed at those who feel drawn to listening to other’s faith journeys, companioning others on

their journey or sense a call to the ministry of Spiritual Accompaniment/Direction.

Again this is a non-academic course, although journaling and the completion of homework is

required.

The next course runs from Jan 2013 and costs £795 including a residential retreat (payable in

installments – please do not let cost prevent you from applying).

If you are at all interested in either of these two courses or know someone who may be, please

contact Karen Colley at Whirlow Grange Spirituality Centre on 0114 2353704/email

Extended Courses

In Search of Wholeness: A Healing Course led by Russ Parker with Eileen Turner

It was Archbishop William temple who said that a church without a healing ministry is only proclaiming

half a Gospel. Yet we do need to ask the question “What is Christian Healing?” This is a practical

training course which seeks to answer this question and offer some suggestions on safe and effective

ways to engage in the Healing Ministry of Jesus Christ. It will become apparent that Christian Healing is

a journey into wholeness which requires not only the pastoral gifts of the church but the skills of

Hospital Chaplains and the skills of health professionals. This course will equip you with a foundational

knowledge to engage your church in the caring of individuals and community.

The course will begin with a weekend workshop on 25th/26th May where participants will receive a

course book to work on until the course closes with a further weekend on 28th/29th September.

Participants will have the option of either working through the course book on their own or submitting

written assignments thus gaining the equivalent of 10 credits at HE level 1. (There will be an additional

charge for this.)

The complete cost of this course is £220 residential/£140 non-residential. Price includes accommodation,

meals, teaching and materials.

To book call 0114 2363173 or for more information please contact the Spirituality Centre Office on 0114

Spiritual Accompaniers/Directors offer a ministry that many value. They seek to be alongside people,

listening and helping them to identify how God might be moving in their life and to help them draw

closer to him.

‘The complexities of contemporary life, with its peculiar challenges to faith, and the breadth of choices

Christians face daily lead many to seek individual guidance and support in their on-going life of intimacy

with God and discernment about their responses to this relationship in the daily concerns of life and

discipleship.’
