4TH GRADE WRITING CONVENTIONS PACING GUIDE

This document was developed to provide a sequence of instruction for the Oral and Written Conventions TEKS. Previous grade level TEKS and those that should be embedded in the focus TEKS are italicized, indicating they should be reviewed or taught, depending on students’ understanding.

The fourth grade TEKS that are the focus of instruction have been starred *.

The fourth grade TEKS that have several components are introduced incrementally. The new component of the TEKS being introduced is the focal point, so it is bolded. Previously taught components of that TEKS should continue to be addressed throughout the year.

Example: 4.20 A use and understand the function of the following parts of speech: (i) verbs (ii) nouns (singular/plural, common/proper) (iii) adjectives (e.g. descriptive, including purpose: sleeping bag, frying pan) Suggested resources for the convention lessons are also provided using the materials available to all AISD 4th grade teachers. Those materials are AISD Building Grammar book, Texas Treasures Grammar Practice Book, Texas Treasures Practice book, and Write Source textbook and skills book. The focus of the writing composition is listed in the left column. The suggested order differs slightly from the CRMs to better align with the tested TEKS.
