Series History VCU leads the volleyball series against Liberty, 15-13. The Rams have won each of the last eight meetings. Liberty’s last win over VCU occurred Oct. 26, 2004 in the Vines Center, during Pinder’s first season as Liberty’s head coach. Jennifer Belk posted 22 kills and 11 digs for the Lady Flames that night. Last Meeting - Sept. 6, 2013 VCU outhit Liberty, .544 to .069, on the way to a 3-0 sweep over the Lady Flames, Sept. 6, 2013 to open the Kentucky Classic at Kentucky’s Memorial Coliseum. Although that match took place just two years ago, only three players from each team who played in the match (Liberty’s Susan Babcock, Haley Jeffcoat and Allie Reynolds and VCU’s Uzoamaka Ibeh, Kalah Jones and Samantha Blaze) are still on the roster in 2015. Home Cooking The Lady Flames have won six home matches in a row, dating to last season, and are 20-5 (.800) in their last 25 home matches, and 44-6 (.880) in their last 50 home contests, spanning the 2010 through 2015 seasons. 3-0 Start For the second year in a row, Liberty is off to a 3-0 start in conference play. The Lady Flames’ defense has been a key, as Liberty leads the Big South with 18.85 digs per set in conference matches, while holding league opponents to a .131 hitting percentage (2nd).

At Home in the Commonwealth Liberty has won its last nine home matches against opponents from the Common-wealth of Virginia, since a 3-0 loss to VCU, Oct. 11, 2011 in the Vines Center. The Lady Flames are 13-2 at home versus Virginia teams since the start of the 2008 season, with the only two such setbacks during that time coming to VCU.

Dig In Margaret Latchford has posted four 20-dig matches this season, making her the first Liberty freshman since Kelly Haseman in 2008 with multiple 20-dig contests. Junior Michelle Melendez, a transfer from Palm Beach State, collected a career-high 22 digs on Aug. 29 against Fairleigh Dickinson. The last time two Liberty newcomers had 20-dig matches in the same season was 2000, in Erin McKeown and Theresa Passamani.

Conference Opening Liberty opened the conference schedule with a 3-1 win at Radford, on Sept. 25. The Lady Flames have now won their Big South opener 10 times in the last 11 seasons. Lib-erty is now 20-5 all-time in conference lid-lifters. Also, Liberty snapped its six-match losing streak while also ending Radford’s 15-match home winning streak.

Season Opening Liberty swept UNCG, 3-0, on Aug. 28, winning its season opener for the second year in a row, after sweeping San Jose State to start the 2014 campaign. The Lady Flames went 3-0 at the Liberty Invitational presented by La Quinta Inns & Suites, as the team started the season at 3-0 for the first time since 2008. Freshman Margaret Latchford led all players with 18 digs on Aug. 28, the most digs by a Liberty freshman in a season opener during the rally scoring era.

10+-Club (Kills) Seven current Lady Flames have posted at least one career 10-kill match during their collegiate career, with five players reaching double-figures in kills at least once this sea-son. Caroline Douglas scored a career-high 29 kills against Central Connecticut on Sept. 12, 2014. Her 29 kills were the most by a Lady Flame since Rachel Harnack recorded a program rally-scoring-record 40 kills at Coastal Carolina, Nov. 10, 2001. Additional Lady Flames and their highs in kills: Hannah Weidner (20), Gabrielle Vess (19), Jade Vorster (19), Haley Jeffcoat (15), Sirena Vorster (14), Susan Babcock (11).

10+-Club (Digs) Lady Flames with their current career highs in digs: Margaret Latchford (31), Allie Reynolds (24), Michelle Melendez (22), Anna Willey (19), Caroline Douglas (18), Haley Jeffcoat (16), Hannah Williams (14) and Lindsay Foreman (14). Six Lady Flames have recorded at least one 10-dig match this year.

Career Milestones in Reach Caroline Douglas - 1,200 kills (currently at 1,159 - reached 1,100 at App State, 9/12/15)Allie Reynolds - 500 digs (currently at 476 - reached 400 vs. Houston Baptist, 9/5/15)Hannah Weidner - 500 kills (currently at 418 - reached 400 at Radford, 9/25/15)Jade Vorster - 400 career kills at Liberty (currently at 385) - 200 career blocks at Liberty (currently at 185)Anna Willey - 800 career assists (currently at 745)

Early Trend Liberty is 7-0 this season when leading in digs, and 0-8 when the opponent collects more digs.

2014 Highlights Liberty sped to a 22-5 record to start in 2014, thanks in part to a 13-match winning streak, from Sept. 20 through Oct. 25. On Oct. 18 at Coastal Carolina, the Lady Flames posted their 20th win, trailing just Colorado State by one day in the race to become the first NCAA Division I team to 20 victories in 2014. Shane Pinder became Liberty’s winningest volleyball coach on Oct. 3, recording his 199th career coaching victory. With a 3-1 win at UNC Asheville on Oct. 4, he became the fourth volleyball coach in Big South history with 200 or more career wins. The Lady Flames have now posted 20 or more overall victories and 10 or more Big South wins in seven out of the last eight seasons.
