Happy New Year!

Personally speaking, I’m really looking forward to all 2015 has in store!!! My collegiate chapter, Epsilon Delta at Western Kentucky University, will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in May. I’ll be attending and catching up with sisters who have given me a life-long gift of wonderful friends and cherished experiences.

Another cherished experience has been to serve as your Nashville Alumnae Association President again this year. Meeting the recent graduates and first time attendees, re-uniting with returning sisters, and growing even closer to long time members are all experiences I treasure.

May I issue you a personal invitation to join us at one of the upcoming Spring 2015 events? Our monthly Program Meetings, Sister Suppers and Happy

Hours are great opportunities to make new friends and reconnect with old ones. Schedules can be found online and in this newsletter.

Another wonderful experience has been working along side the great group of officers serving you this year. So much work goes into this organization to make it so special: from

the planning and execution of the wonderful programs and gatherings to the outreach to each new member as well as the huge responsibility of our monetary funds. A huge bunch of violets is extended to each of you for all you do!!!

We really have something special in this organization. There isn’t a day that goes by that I am not aware of how fortunate I am to be associated with these sisters. I can’t wait to see what new friends and experiences 2015 has in store for each of us.

Loyally,

MaryDe Elliston, President

Panhellenic Update

The Nashville Area Panhellenic Alumnae Association represents 24 of 26 Panhellenic sororities in the U.S. We are women volunteering in the community, encouraging high school women to go Greek, raising money for college scholarships, and hosting Sorority 101.

In 2015 NAPAA has committed to awarding five $1000 college scholarships. We meet the second Monday evening of each month. Check out www.nashvillepanhellenic.org for more information. All Greeks are invited to participate in quarterly social gatherings. Like them on Facebook to be in the know for upcoming activities to mix and mingle: www.facebook.com/nashpan.

The annual Panhellenic Luncheon for 2015 will be Saturday, April 11th, at Richland Country Club. ADPi is committed to fill a luncheon table and obtain $500 in donated items for the silent auction. Sisters Alice Yopp and Cheryl Oglesby

welcome your assistance in collecting baskets and donations.

Last year donations included photography sessions, gift cards, spa services, concert memorabilia, Greek wear, floral arrangements, jewelry, beauty, bath and hair products. If you’d like to make a donation, please contact Alice at [email protected] or Cheryl at [email protected]. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us for this fun-filled luncheon!

In 2014, our Fundraising Committee

proposed several new fundraising

events to help raise support not

only for RMH but for a few other

local Nashville philanthropies as

well. And they were a hit!

Some of those new events included:

shopping at Spruce with 20% of the

proceeds coming back to our

association, plates of never ending

pancakes to help support the Ronald

McDonald House (RMH) and last

but certainly not least our Hoppin’

Hounds Easter Egg Hunt.

So what is on the calendar for 2015?

Our Hoppin’ Hounds Easter Egg

Hunt is currently scheduled for

Saturday, April 4th. A rain date is

scheduled for April 12th. More

details about the location and time

to follow.

One new aspect of this year’s event

will be the inclusion of local vendors

to display their crafts and goods. We

already have a lot of interest for last

year’s event and we feel this will be

a great addition.

Of course, we’ll need your help to

get the event organized! Sisters

Alison and Julie will be establishing

committees to assist with the

following:

- Setup

- Marketing

- Volunteers

- Dog Park Marketing

- Photos

- Breakdown

If you have any questions or if you

are interested in volunteering,

please contact Sister Julie Cox at

[email protected].

ABOUT NASHVILLE RMH:

We are very blessed in the fact there is a Ronald McDonald House right in the heart of Nashville. Since its opening in 1991, the Nashville RMH has served families from all over Tennessee in addition to those from Kentucky and many other states. They’ve even been called home by those from 13 foreign countries. The house has 32 bedrooms with a Family Room on the 5th Floor of the Monroe Carrell Jr. Children’s Hospital.

Our Alumnae Association continues to support the Nashville RMH in ways large and small this year… and we appreciate your participation! Feel free to bring your pull-tabs to meetings and Pam Zimmerman will see that they are delivered to the House. She’ll have “collection houses” available at each meeting for anyone who would like one.

Do you ever think you could or should be a contestant

on a reality show? Well I never did, but by an unexpected

turn of events, I was given the opportunity to do a VIP audition for the Master Chef FOX reality cooking show.

They held regional auditions in Atlanta. You are assigned a date and must show up with a 12-page questionnaire/profile filled out AND a complete dish that represents “you on a plate.”

From the time I was asked to audition until the time I headed to Atlanta, I needed to decide what I would make - and how I would describe myself, my love of cooking, and my dish - on camera at the audition. After much input from my family and friends, I ended up making Chicken Cordon Bleu, purple and gold potatoes Rosemary Au’gratin, and glazed baby carrots.

I also needed to provide eight references - people who have had my cooking and could provide a personal opinion of myself and my ability to cook. The references had to be four women and four men - none could be relatives. Not as easy as one might think. I am so grateful to everyone who agreed to do it - and the massive moral support provided too!

The day before the audition, a dear friend offered to drive me and practically half of my kitchen down to Atlanta. I bought all my ingredients fresh sourced and did as much of the prep work as I could.

When I arrived at the audition, they told us we would have three minutes to plate our food and then two judges would taste and ask us a bunch of questions. “In essence you will have about two minutes to WOW us. If you are someone

who for example does naked skydiving, now is the time to tell us.” Naked skydiving isn’t really my style.

The judges loved my food, I got great feedback on everything from my complexity, technique, taste, plating, etc. Ultimately I did not get chosen to advance to the final selection round. But it was a really great experience, and I confirmed what wonderful friends I have with great advice and incredibly support. I am a lucky girl indeed.
