Welcome to the 25th meeting of the CBF General Assembly! This gathering is always an uplifting event for our Fellowship. Under one roof you can dialogue about how to do church better, gather for an inspirational time of worship and see friends from across the country. I hope you’ll get a chance to do all three.

If this is your first General Assembly, make sure and give yourself an opportunity to experience a little bit of all that will take place. This year we are blessed to welcome both Tom Long and Diana Butler Bass to our Assembly — two gifted thinkers and speakers. You’ll be blessed to hear from them as we come together to worship God in Jesus Christ.

With this being the 25th meeting of the General Assembly, our gathering is even more significant than usual. You might think it’s enough for us to merely celebrate our 25th Anniversary, but as we gather we’ll not only celebrate what God has done, we’ll also be launching into the future.

You’ll hear from the Missions Council and the Governing Board about a new strategic plan for CBF Global Missions and how you and your church can be a part of it. If we embrace this plan as a Fellowship, then we’ll have the opportunity to renew and even increase our commitment to long-term presence on the mission field.

You’ll also hear about the first ever Fellowship-wide fundraising campaign in our history. Our goal is to raise $12 million that will support forming healthy congregations, nurturing young Baptists and sustaining Global Missions. Each of these three undertakings is critically important in our Fellowship. Congregations need a partner that will help them carry out their work. Young Baptists need places and times to gather for fellowship, for discernment of call and support, and global mission is the very heart of our shared identity. Sending field personnel, partnering with indigenous Christians and bringing congregations together to engage in global mission are all worthy of our support.

Our theme as we move into this milestone year together is taken from 2 Corinthians 5 — “For Christ’s love compels us!” For 25 years, we have been busy doing what, together, we believed to be Kingdom work. At times it has taken on different shapes and sizes, but underlying it all was a shared commitment to being the hands and feet of Christ. We’ve done it because, as Christ-followers, we are “compel-led” to do it. But even more than that, I believe we have come together because Christ’s love is “compel-ling.” The vision of God’s Kingdom coming through field personnel, chaplains and pastoral counselors and church starters is compelling. The vision of God’s Kingdom coming through congregations carrying out their mission and through individuals living out their call is compelling. It has been and continues to be something worthy of our deepest aspirations, our best efforts and our abiding commitments.

On behalf of the Governing Board and the General Assembly Steering Committee, we are glad you are here and we look forward to celebrating together not only what God has done but what God is going to do through us in the future!

1:30 – 4 p.m. Leadership InstituteIn a time when many traditional church structures are crumbling, when our communities are increasingly multicultural and religiously pluralistic, when the so-called “Nones” are growing in number and when even longtime Christians confess uncertainty about their faith, church leaders need to respond nimbly to these challenges. In order to think through how pastors and other church leaders can respond to this new and perplexing environment we will take a fresh look at a familiar resource — the letters of the New Testament. It is well-known that the letters of Paul and the other New Testament letters contain great theological truths (such as salvation by grace through faith) but in this seminar we will also explore these letters from a different angle — namely, as expressions of pastoral and practical leadership for fragile new churches in multi-faith, multicultural contexts. These letters can be preached and taught as the creative and courageous attempts of pastors in their own time to do what many church leaders today are seeking to do, namely building communities of faith amid the windstorms of a confusing culture. GATHERING AROUND THE TABLE

CREATING A SACRED PLACE TO GATHER

CREATING FELLOWSHIP AROUND THE TABLE

1. God of grace and God of glory,

on your people pour your power.

Crown your ancient church’s story,

bring her bud to glorious flower.

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage

for the facing of this hour,

for the facing of this hour.

2. Lo! the hosts of evil ’round us,

scorn your Christ, assail His ways.

From the fears that long have bound us,

free our hearts to faith and praise.

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage

for the living of these days,

for the living of these days.

Refrain:

And God will delight when we are creators

of justice and joy, compassion and peace:

yes, God will delight when we are creators

of justice, justice and joy!

Refrain:

And God will delight when we are creators

of justice and joy, compassion and peace:

yes, God will delight when we are creators

of justice, justice and joy!

3. Cure your children’s warring madness,

bend our pride to your control.

Shame our wanton, selfish gladness,

rich in things and poor in soul.

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage

lest we miss your kingdom’s goal,

lest we miss your kingdom’s goal.

4. Save us from weak resignation,

to the evils we deplore.

Let the gift of your salvation

be our glory evermore.

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,

serving you whom we adore,

serving you whom we adore.

to live without fear, and simply to be,

to work, to speak out, to witness and worship,

for everyone born, the right to be free.

Refrain:

And God will delight when we are creators

of justice and joy, compassion and peace:

yes, God will delight when we are creators

of justice, justice and joy!

We praise you, O God, our Redeemer, Creator;

in grateful devotion our tribute we bring.

We lay it before you; we kneel and adore you;

we bless your holy name: glad praises we sing.

We worship you, God of our fathers and mothers;

through life’s storm and tempest our guide you have been;

when perils o’ertake us, you never forsake us,

and with your help, O Lord, our struggles we win.

With voices united our praises we offer,

our songs of thanksgiving to you we now raise;

with you, Lord, beside us, your loving arm will guide us.

To you, our great Redeemer, forever be praise!

HYMN OF RESPONSE

BENEDICTION

O God beyond all praising, we worship you today

and sing the love amazing that songs cannot repay;

for we can only wonder at every gift you send,

at blessings without number and mercies without end:

we lift our hearts before you and wait upon your word,

we honor and adore you, our great and mighty Lord.

Then hear, O gracious Savior, accept the love we bring,

that we who know your favor may serve you as our king;

and whether our tomorrows be filled with good or ill,

we’ll triumph through our sorrows and rise to bless you still:

to marvel at your beauty and glory in your ways,

and make a joyful duty our sacrifice of praise.

CALL TO ORDER AND ADOPTION OF AGENDA

PRESENTATION OF THE 2016-2017 MISSIONS AND MINISTRIES BUDGET

NOMINATING COMMITTEE REPORT AS SUBMITTED TO THE GOVERNING BOARD(SEE REPORT ON PAGE 41)

Hear, O Israel:

The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,

and with all your soul, and with all your might. Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart.

Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise.

Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead, write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9

Speak, O Lord SPEAK O LORDCONGREGATIONAL SINGING

1. Speak, O Lord, as we come to You

To receive the food of Your Holy Word.

Take Your truth, plant it deep in us;

shape and fashion us in Your likeness,

that the light of Christ might be seen today

in our acts of love and our deeds of faith.

Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us

All Your purposes for Your glory.

2. Teach us, Lord, full obedience,

holy reverence, true humility;

test our thoughts and our attitudes

In the radiance of Your purity.

Cause our faith to rise; cause our eyes to see

Your majestic love and authority.

Words of pow’r that can never fail—

let their truth prevail over unbelief.

3. Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds;

help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us—

truths unchanged from the dawn of time

that will echo down through eternity.

And by grace we’ll stand on Your promises,

and by faith we’ll walk as You walk with us.

Speak, O Lord, till Your church is built

and the earth is filled with Your glory.

CELEBRATING OUR WORK TOGETHER

I Am Thine, O Lord I AM THINECONGREGATIONAL SINGING

I am thine, O Lord, I have heard thy voice,

and it told thy love to me;

but I long to rise in the arms of faith

and be closer drawn to thee.

Refrain:

Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,

to the cross where thou hast died;

Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,

to thy precious, bleeding side.

Consecrate me now to thy service, Lord,

by the power of grace divine;

let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,

and my will be lost in thine.

(Refrain)

Reader 1: As we continue the worshipful work of this assembly, let us prepare our minds for action;

discipline ourselves;

All: set all our hope on the grace that Jesus Christ will bring us when he is revealed. Reader 2: We open our minds to discern injustice, we reflect on our own failings in the eyes of God.

All: We place ourselves in the hands of God’s mercy as we confess the sins of our lives and the world we live in.Reader 1: Holy God, we who have been invited to sit at your table cannot imagine begging beneath it.

All: We gather at tables in boardrooms and restaurants, homes and schools, neglecting to consider those who have been excluded from our decisions, prosperity, and fellowship.Reader 2: As we consume more than our share of the feast, others are fighting for discarded scraps.

All: Around the tables of this assembly, O God, remind us that the crumbs of your grace are sufficient for all of us. Reader 1: By your Spirit nourish our humility and compassion

Reader 2: so that all may feast together in your kingdom.

All: Let us worship and work as those who have been nourished and forgiven.

What does

Christ’s love compel you to do?

But the goals of CBF’s 25th Anniversary Campaign go far beyond fundraising. Born out of our love for Christ and each other, the campaign is an effort that engages all of CBF and provides opportunities for supporters to put their faith to action through our forming together in missions and ministries while we grow and build a stronger Fellowship.

Visit the 25th Anniversary booth in The Gathering Place or www.cbf.net/CBFat25 to learn more.

In celebrating what Christ’s love has compelled us to be as Cooperative Baptists over 25 years, we are celebrating the life-changing impact that individuals, churches and partners can have in missions and ministry, locally and globally.

That is the power of “&” that we’re celebrating in a $12-million fundraising campaign that launches at this CBF family reunion we call General Assembly.

The campaign focuses on the long-lasting benefits of increasing CBF’s endowments to support three goals that have been priorities throughout our 25-year history:

HYMN OF ADORATION

WHO WE ARE: REFLECTIONS ON OUR 25-YEAR JOURNEY

RESPONSE

Creator God, Creating Still

Though I May Speak with Bravest Fire

Creator God, creating still, by will and word and deed,

create a new desire in us to meet the present need.

Redeemer God, redeeming still, with overflowing grace,

pour out Your love on us, through us, make this a holy place.

Sustainer God, sustaining still, with strength for every day,

empower us now to do Your will. Correct us when we stray.

Great Trinity, for this new day we need Your presence still.

Create, redeem, sustain us now to do Your work and will.

Though I may speak with bravest fire,

and have the gift to all inspire,

and have not love, my words are vain,

as sounding brass, and hopeless gain.

Though I may give all I possess,

and striving so my love profess,

but not be given by love within,

the profit soon turns strangely thin.

Come, Spirit, come, our hearts control,

our spirits long to be made whole.

Let inward love guide every deed;

by this we worship, and are freed.

CONCLUDING HYMN

Your Love Compels Me

Here I am, Lord

I, the Lord of sea and sky,

I have heard My people cry.

All who dwell in dark and sin,

My hand will save.

I who made the stars of night,

I will make their darkness bright.

Who will bear My light to them?

Whom shall I send?

Refrain:

Here I am Lord. Is it I Lord?

I have heard You calling in the night.

I will go Lord, if You lead me.

I will hold Your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain,

I have borne My people’s pain.

I have wept for love of them, they turn away.

I will break their hearts of stone,

give them hearts for love alone.

I will speak My word to them.

Whom shall I send?

(refrain)

I, the Lord of wind and flame,

I will tend the poor and lame.

I will set a feast for them,

My hand will save.

Finest bread I will provide

till their hearts be satisfied.

I will give My life to them.

Whom shall I send?

ADJOURN BUSINESS

As we gather together on this day in this place, may we recognize and affirm:

The pieces of possibility before and behind us, the bits of good present today, yesterday and tomorrow,

so let us celebrate the richness and diversity of life in the presence of God.

Let us glimpse God through this time of worshipful work.

Be Thou My Vision SLANECONGREGATIONAL SINGING

1. Be Thou my vision O Lord of my heart,

naught be all else to me save that Thou art:

Thou my best thought, by day or by night,

waking or sleeping Thy presence my light.

2. Be Thou my wisdom and Thou my true word;

I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord:

thou my soul’s shelter, and Thou my high tower,

raise Thou me heaven-ward, O Power of my power.

3. Riches I heed not, nor vain empty praise,

Thou mine inheritance, now and always:

Thou and Thou only first in my heart,

great God of heaven, my treasure Thou art.

4. Great God of heaven my victory won,

may I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s sun!

Heart of my own heart whatever befall,

still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

CELEBRATING CBF AT 25: SUSTAINING LONG-TERM PRESENCE IN GLOBAL MISSIONS

BEARING WITNESS TO JESUS CHRIST THROUGH BIBLE TRANSLATION

HYMN FOR THE JOURNEY

Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee;

take my hands and let them move at the impulse of Thy love, at the impulse of Thy love.

Take my will and make it Thine, it shall be no longer mine.

Take my heart, it is Thine own, It shall be Thy royal throne, it shall be Thy royal throne.

Take my love, my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store.

Take myself and I will be ever, only, all for Thee, ever only all for Thee.

I surrender all, I surrender all. All to Thee my blessed Savior, I surrender all.

Sweetly, Lord, have we heard Thee calling, “Come, follow Me!”

And we see where Thy footprints falling, lead us to Thee.

Refrain:

Footprints of Jesus, that make the pathway glow;

we will follow the steps of Jesus where’er they go.

Though they lead o’er the cold, dark mountains, seeking His sheep;

or along by Siloam’s fountains, helping the weak.

(refrain)

FRIDAY EVENING 7:30-9 p.m.

Because I have been sheltered, fed, by Thy good care,

I cannot see another’s lack and I not share

my glowing fire, my loaf of bread, my roof’s safe shelter overhead,

that they, too, may be comforted.

For everyone born, a place at the table,

for everyone born, clean water and bread,

a shelter, a space, a safe place for growing,

for everyone born, a star overhead.

And God will delight when we are creators of justice and joy, compassion and peace:

Yes, God will delight when we are creators of justice, justice and joy!

If they lead through the temple holy, preaching the Word;

or in homes of the poor and lowly, serving the Lord.

(refrain)

Then, at last, when on high God sees us, our journey done,

we will rest where the steps of Jesus end at God’s throne.

FRIDAY EVENING 7:30-9 p.m.

Asdrubal Forte, his wife Yarelis and his son Alex moved to Miami from Cuba in 2014, following a call to serve God wherever they go. After several months of learning the culture and context of Miami and exploring the idea of church starting, the family started a house church. During this time, Asdrubal and Yarelis provided pastoral care to friends and relatives while saving money to begin holding official services. The church is now a group of families that gather together with a call to serve the city of Miami through integral mission.

ASDRUBAL FORTESunrise Church

Miami, Fla.

“Our main goal is that each person would become a believer, every believer a disciple, and every disciple a minister,” Asdrubal said. “Our calling is to serve the spiritual and material needs of our community and collaborate with individuals and institutions to extend God’s Kingdom.”

Russell Jones serves as the pastor of Mosaic Fellowship in Belton, Texas — a church start currently in its infancy. When presented with an unexpected move and a fruitless search for a new church home, Jones felt called to build one, and CBF of Texas called him to build it in Belton. Jones hopes that as the church matures it becomes a faith family that truly lives out what it means to be a community of faith where all feel welcomed and valued, including the marginalized and those who don’t feel they “belong” in a typical church setting.

RUSSELL JONESMosaic Fellowship

“I often think of myself as an accidental church starter,” Jones said. “And many conversations with residents, former residents, clergy and others led us to see they long for the community that church offers. These conversations confirmed that our call to ministering with (not to) the marginalized, the poor and the working class fits a need in Belton.”

Christopher Jones serves as the pastor of Restoring Hope Fellowship in Carrollton, Texas. After years of ministry and efforts to promote justice and a loving adherence to the Gospel, a small group in the North Dallas/Denton area asked what a ministry would look like that sought to promote young adult leadership, to integrate the social and behavioral sciences and technology with theology and that remembered God’s call for rest. Out of this pursuit emerged Restoring Hope Fellowship.

“Our desire is to be faithful to our call to co-labor with Christ to promote abundant life,” Jones said. “Our hope is to help persons envision their potential in Christ and take the necessary steps to realize it, asserting that what God has started among us, God will complete (Philippians 1:6).”

Ron McCaskill serves as the pastor of Christ Church Cairo in Cairo, Ga. After being the prime mover in starting three Hispanic missions and being a church growth consultant with over 40-plus years of pastoring, McCaskill felt called to something new and unique. With this call, in July 2011 a group of 30 people began exploring ministry with a three-fold vision — to reclaim disenfranchised Baptists, to generate an income stream for Cooperative Baptist missions and to seek to reconnect with the young people who have disconnected with the church.

RON MCCASKILLChrist Church Cairo

Cairo, Ga.

“Like the New Testament Church in Acts 2:42, we not only devoted ourselves to the Apostles’ teaching, to fellowship, to prayer and the breaking of bread, but to bring beauty from ashes (Isaiah 61:3),” McCaskill said. “This devotion has authored some amazing, life-transforming stories in the lives of individuals as well as families in our community. I am thrilled every time I think about what God has done!”

Dustin Payne serves as the teaching pastor of The Forum Christian Church in Houston, Texas. A graduate of Baylor University’s Truett Seminary, he felt called to Northwest Houston, a very diverse and eclectic part of Texas and the task of sharing life and the Gospel with Millennials and Generation Z. The Forum is centered on authentic, Christ-centered community, discipleship and the re-creation of our city. Their vision is to be a Christian community working to live life to the fullest through the process of discipleship while engrossed in the beauty of God and the restorative work of Jesus Christ.

DUSTIN PAYNEThe Forum Christian Church

Houston, Texas

“We believe that God has called us to share the Gospel and our lives with each other,” Payne said. “The Forum Christian Church would not be possible without our ecumenical approach and the strong sense of Christian brotherhood that we share with other people. Light shines the brightest when gathered together, and Christ has that way of making us glow.”

Fellowship ChurchRoanoke Rapids, N.C.

Carrie Tuning serves as the pastor of Hope Christian Fellowship Church (HCFC) in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. Having been a preacher for more than 20 years, Tuning felt the call back to her hometown to begin her church. Focused on the idea of holistic ministry, Tuning hopes that her work will help to meet the economic, physical, psychological, social, intellectual and spiritual needs of the congregation and community. With a core group of 18 individuals, Tuning’s vision is that HCFC will be “a church where everybody is somebody and Christ is in charge.”

“It is my hope to welcome and compassionately embrace all people who do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ, as well as the broken and weary within the church community,” Tuning said. “I hope to equip them to evangelize the world through relevant preaching and teaching, and to empower and encourage them to love, spiritually grow and edify God and Jesus Christ through worship, witness, word and service.”

WAYNE WEATHERSVision of Hope Baptist Church

Philadelphia, Pa.

Wayne Weathers serves as the pastor and organizer of Vision of Hope Baptist Church in Philadelphia. While pastoring another congregation in Philadelphia, Weathers felt a call from God to launch a church in the city that would provide hope to individuals dealing with challenges and despair in their lives. The mission of the church is to go out into the city to create disciples who can minister to both the congregation and the Strawberry Mansion community of Philadephia. The congregation of Vision of Hope is a multi-generational group that focuses on in-reach and out-reach ministry, providing hope in Jesus Christ to members of the congregation and community through practicing spiritual disciplines.

“The journey to organizing, starting, and establishing God’s church has brought joy and taught many of us the importance of walking by faith,” Weathers said. “It is an honor and blessing from God to receive a calling to start a new branch of Zion to usher in God’s Kingdom on earth.”

KENNARD WEEVERInnovation Park Church

Lawrenceville, Ga.

Kennard Weever serves as the pastor of Innovation Park Church in Lawrenceville, Ga. With a passion to help people discover their God-ordained potential and connect more deeply to the Kingdom of God, Weever is dedicated to the work of community building and communicating the Word in a relevant way to address the needs of the congregation and community. With degrees in counseling and theology, Weever has served in various roles within the church. He has also been the founding pastor of two congregations in New Jersey and North Carolina.

Weever’s vision is to engage in cutting-edge ministry, expanding the Kingdom of God by reaching out to unchurched and wounded people with the purpose of changing the way they think about church.

DECATUR, Ga. — Less than 20 years after the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship began endorsing chaplains and pastoral counselors, CBF has named its 1,000th endorsed person. The CBF Council on Endorsement on March 5 selected Erin Lysse, a second-year chaplaincy resident at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., as its 1,000th endorsee.

Lysse expressed her passion for chaplaincy ministry and the great sense of tradition and honor to be named the 1,000th CBF-endorsed chaplain or pastoral counselor.

“Being a chaplain gives me the opportunity to sit with people in some of the worst times they might experience in life. I meet folks who are experiencing crises that change their lives forever,” Lysse said. “CBF is endorsing me as the 1,000th endorsee, and I feel a connection to an important legacy of ministry, and my hope is to continue that legacy.”

CBF chaplains and pastoral counselors serve in a variety of contexts including medical centers, correctional institutions, hospice organizations, police and fire and rescue departments, colleges and universities, businesses, retirement communities, pastoral counseling centers, the Department of Veterans Affairs, Civil Air Patrol and in each branch of the United States Armed Forces, as well as numerous other specialized settings.

CBF’s chaplaincy and pastoral counseling ministries have a rich history in the life of the Fellowship. After several years of discussion, CBF declared itself a

“religious endorsing body” and formed the CBF Council on Endorsement in 1997 and the following year endorsed its first four chaplains and pastoral counselors: Paula Peek, a hospice chaplain in Kentucky; Tim Madison, a hospital chaplain in Texas; Jim Pruett, a pastoral counselor in South Carolina; and Capt. Jim Harwood, a United States Navy chaplain.

Within four years, CBF endorsed more than 100 chaplains and pastoral counselors and in 2001 selected long-time chaplain George Pickle as the Fellowship’s first full-time Endorser for Chaplains and Pastoral Counselors. During Pickle’s 12-year-tenure as endorser, the number of endorsed chaplains and pastoral counselors grew from 138 to 715. After Pickle’s retirement in 2013, U.S. Navy Chaplain Capt. Gerry Hutchinson was selected to succeed Pickle as endorser.

Hutchinson shared his excitement to celebrate this milestone endorsement and emphasized the privilege he feels to support those living out a call to minister in these specialized settings.

“George Pickle laid a strong foundation for the ministry of chaplains and pastoral counselors with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship,” Hutchinson said. “It is my great privilege to carry the torch onward. I am abundantly grateful that God continues to call, gift and guide women and men to CBF whose passion is Kingdom work through chaplaincy and pastoral counseling.”

Chaplain Steven Chewning II, in his application for endorsement, wrote that “the presence of a hospital chaplain can be powerful. It points to something greater —it points to God. When entering the sacred space of a hospital room with patients and families, my job is not to make God appear, because God is already there. My task is to come announcing God’s presence in that space.”

CBF chaplains and pastoral counselors are partners in renewing God’s world. It is our privilege to serve in a variety of specialized settings. Whether in a hospital or a prison cell, in the workplace or with members of

the Armed Forces at home and abroad, in a VA Medical Center or ministering with individuals and families as part of hospice care, with students in a university setting or providing pastoral counsel, or perhaps walking alongside residents at a continuing care facility, we point people to God. We announce God’s presence with us. Join me in celebrating the presence of these ministers who represent God and who represent the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship in varied settings.

A NEW FUNDING MODEL

ABOUT 2/3 OF FUNDING ABOUT 1/3 OF FUNDING

ABOUT 10% OF FUNDING BY 2020

The new funding model allows churches and individuals to strategically support missions through offerings and direct gifts that sustains all our mission work around the world.

EVERY UNDESIGNATED GIFT: A percentage of every undesignated gift to CBF supports our mission work on the field through member care, administration and church engagement.

Christianity has entered a global era in which the majority of Christians no longer reside in North America and Europe.

The missional church movement and the increase in short-term missions changed the way in which our congregations think about and engage in mission and fund that mission.

Our communities have changed. Although a large majority of Americans continue to identify as Christian, awareness of America’s cultural and religious diversity rises.

A New Missionary SituationCBF is deeply committed to answering God’s call to mission in the midst of major global shifts:

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations...

MATTHEW 28:19

OFFERING FORGLOBAL MISSIONS2016-2017

LONG-TERM WITNESS FOR CHRIST AROUND THE WORLD

After more than two decades of Christian witness in 30 countries,

CBF stands convinced that there are no shortcuts to making

disciples of all nations.

Whether translating the Bible into a previously unwritten

language, educating Chinese lay leaders and pastors to build

the Church and spread the Gospel, or resurrecting hope in rural

America, the transformation we seek requires patience and

incarnational witness with others.

Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we cultivate beloved

community, bear witness to Jesus Christ and seek

transformational development among people and places

otherwise forgotten or forsaken. CBF field personnel work

alongside CBF congregations within the contexts of

Global Poverty, Global Migration and the Global Church.

Somerset, Ky. Thailand China

“Bearing Witness to Jesus Christ is really a long-term process. Many unreached and marginalized people are that way for a reason — it’s because they are in difficult and challenging places. Being present in a place for a long time gives you the opportunity to develop deep relationships and when crises do occur in people’s lives, they’re much more open to sharing with you.” — KIRK, SOUTHEAST ASIA

WHEN YOU GIVE, YOU KEEP FIELD PERSONNEL

ON THE MISSION FIELDUnder a bold new plan that clarifies the vision for CBF Global

Missions, gifts to the Offering for Global Missions support

the transformative impact that long-term mission presence

enables for all CBF field personnel.

When you give, you are investing in the cost of presence,

that is, the salaries, benefits, housing costs and children’s

educational needs for all CBF field personnel.

Celebrating God’s Great Commandment and Great Commission, we use the words and actions that Christ teaches us

to love God, neighbor and self.

Through words that invite faith in Jesus and actions that embody the way of Jesus,

thanks to you, CBF is impacting lives in 30 countries across five continents.

Imagine if forgiveness and love were commonly spoken, if

conflicts were resolved with a healing touch and everyone felt

value and worth. Our children are ready to learn that language

and we have been given the words of life. So let’s speak to them of

peace and justice. Let’s tell them of Jesus and God’s shalom.

Let’s teach our kids to shine in this world.

Camels andneedle eyes

Are we quick to shame the wealthy?

Do we suggest that the fortunate within our economy hold the power

and means to cure our social ills?When clergy are asked to recall an experience when a church member approached them to discuss a matter about personal wealth that had nothing to do with the church’s budget or capital campaign, there is too often a dead silence.

We help clergy and the affluent begin a dialogue about the challenges and opportunities that accompany wealth, not in order to support a capital campaign or underwrite a church budget, but to explore the points where faith intersects with business, family inheritances, and wealth.

Wake Divinity’s commitment to fosteringcommunity through dialogue has expanded my understanding of what it means to be Christian in a pluralistic society. I have found a safe place to ask questions and explore meaning as I pursue my vocational calling.
