Description Silk Embroidered Kimono and Obi Sash: Furisode is the most formal style of kimono worn by young unmarried women in Japan. It is made of very fine, brightly colored silk, and is commonly worn to celebrate 'Coming of Age Day' the year they turn 20. By wearing a furisode, a young woman signifies that she is available for marriage. A furisode might be likened to the formal gowns worn by debutantes in the West. The furisode originated in the mid-1500s as upper-class children's everyday clothing and had relatively short sleeves. Over time as the sleeves became more exaggerated, it became an elegant form of dress worn mainly by young women on special occasions such as the tea ceremony or wedding ceremonies of relatives. Silk Shoes & Club Bag are made using Saga Nishiki, a form of brocading from Saga prefecture. It is a unique form of brocading in that Japanese paper is used as the warp. This paper is coated in either gold or lacquer. The weft is a silk thread which is dyed. As the technique is time-consuming, only several inches are produced each day. Saga Nishiki was created at the end of the Edo Period by Kashima Nabeshima, the daimyo of Saga. At this time, it was referred to as Kashima Nishiki. It was not until the Japan-British Exhibition of 1910 that it was renamed ''Saga Nishiki''.

Description Hinamatsuri, also called Doll’s Day or Girl’s Day, is celebrated each year in Japan on March 3. Platforms covered with a red carpet are used to display a set of ornamental dolls representing the Emperor, Empress, attendants, and musicians in the traditional court dress of the Heitan period. It originated from a custom during the Heitan period called ''doll floating'' in which straw china dolls were set afloat on a boat and sent down a river to the sea supposedly taking troubles or bad spirits with them. Families generally start to display the dolls in February and take them down immediately after the festival. Superstition says that leaving the dolls past March 4 will result in a late marriage for the daughter.

An amazing wine in every sense, this classic, full-bodied Pauillac is the quintessential Pontet Canet from proprietor Alfred Tesseron, who continues to reduce yields and farms his vineyards biodynamically - a rarity in Bordeaux. Black as a moonless night, the 2009 Pontet Canet offers up notes of incense, graphite, smoke, licorice, creme de cassis and blackberries. A wine of irrefutable purity, laser-like precision, colossal weight and richness, and sensational freshness, this is a tour de force in winemaking that is capable of lasting 50 or more years. The tannins are elevated, but they are sweet and beautifully integrated as are the acidity, wood and alcohol (which must be in excess of 14%). This vineyard, which is situated on the high plateau of Pauillac adjacent to Mouton Rothschild, appears to have done everything perfectly in 2009. Anticipated maturity: 2025-2075. *2010 Ch. La Conseillante: An excellent Pomerol from a great year. A brilliant effort from this property, known for the sheer elegance and finesse of its wines, the 2010 La Conseillante offers back-to-back monumental efforts, particularly given the
remarkable 2009. This estate has been on a hot streak of late. The 2010 is a slightly bigger, richer wine, but without losing its floral, elegant mulberry, black raspberry and sweet kirsch notes. Combine those with some licorice, subtle new oak and a hint of forest floor, and the result is a medium to full-bodied, rich, complex wine that has striking aromatics and perfect balance in the mouth. It’s stil l very young, despite this vintage, which seems to be maturing precociously. The palate is dense and luscious, opening with bright red fruit flavors of raspberry preserves and red plum tart that give way to touches of caramel, olive tapenade and tobacco leaf. The finish is supple and lingering, framed by fine tannins and a touch of smoky oak. 2011 Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon: This dark garnet wine presents a delightful bouquet of black cherry, mountain blueberry, rose petal, and bramble that dance among hints of cocoa, dark chocolate, and cedar. Blueberry pie and graham cracker lead on the palate, while deep flavors of coffee, cinnamon toast and white pepper follow. Long and lean, the caramelized finish swirls with toasted, nutty tannins and subtle touches of dried blackberries.

The wine showcases the fruit with a bit of jammy blackberry and a spicy finish. *2012 Bell Canyon Cellars Reserve Red Wine. The taste is a blast of ripe fruit, black cherry, blueberries and a hint of vanilla that transitions nicely to some toasted oak and mineral notes mid palate. *2012 Bouchaine Chardonnay from Napa Valley. *2014 Hearst Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles.

Description *2008 Christian Moreau Chablis Vaillons Cuvée Guy Moreau. Tanzer 92 Points. Pale straw-yellow. Deeper on the nose than the regular Vaillon, offering aromas of mirabelle, flowers, nutmeg, ginger and quinine. Creamy, silky and deep, with noteworthy sweetness and breadth. Very rich, layered premier cru nicely framed by firm acidity. This one spent some time in 40% oak and shows a distinct vanillin quality on the back end. But the wine's creamy depth and suavity of texture suggests that it will age gracefully. *2014 Latour-Giraud Meursault Charmes. Pale, bright green. Begins with brisk lemon and lime aromas lifted by a floral topnote, with deeper fresh peach and apricot scents emerging with air. Silky, sweet and classy, offering lovely inner-mouth cut. Finishes sappy, spicy and long, but will need time in the cellar to expand on the back end. Jean-Pierre Latour told me that in recent years he's been trying to raise this wine in tension, purity and class to the level of his Perrières and Genevrières.
