LE FERVENT IS PRODUCED IN COSTIÈRES DE NÎMES, THE SOUTHERN-MOST APPELLATION OF THE RHÔNE VALLEY NESTLED ON THE SHORES OF THE MEDITERRANEAN, AND IS SOURCED FROM SOME OF THE COOLEST VINEYARD SITES OF THE SOUTHERN RHÔNE, THANKS TO THE STRONG MARITIME INFLUENCE. VINTAGE After a cold month of January, the end of winter came early -- mid-February. Two weeks later we were seeing almond and peach blossoms and bud-break started around mid- March (a good 15 days ahead of a normal year). Winter lacked precipitation, but regular spring rains allowed a buoyant start to canopy growth. Summer arrived by mid-May with temperatures regularly above 85°F and even exceeding 95°F as of mid-June. e harvest predictions looked earlier and earlier and the cloudbursts of June were most welcomed. We started harvest on August 15th (a record) with our Viognier and continued picking for our rosés. All the rosés and the majority of the whites came in before the end of August (another record for us) with beautiful balance, fresh aromatics and a very nice tension. WINEMAKING e terroirs selected for this wine are located at the extreme south of the Appellation where gentle slopes of Rhône pebbles face the marshes of Camargue and nearby Mediterranean sea. e microclimate is much cooler than the rest of the Rhône valley thanks to fresh sea breezes that prevail most of the summer. Michel’s philosophy about rosé is that it is a “Blanc de Noir”. In other words a white winemaking approach to red grapes. We are looking for the same kind of balance, purity of fruit, and minerality as we do for our whites. Harvest decisions are based on freshness of aromatics and acidity levels. Juice extraction is mostly free flow (presses are separated) with settling on coarse lees for a week before fermentation. e result is a light colored rosé extra body and beautiful aromatics. WINEMAKERS’ NOTES Very pale pink with violet hues. Intense nose of crushed strawberries, pomegranate and floral notes. Very dynamic wine with a rich mouthfeel, fresh red berries and mineral flavors, and a long lively finish.
