A centenary comes but once in the lifetime of any organization—our 100th anniversary presents us an opportunity to use history as a springboard to uncover the breakthrough ideas of the future.

On September 19th, we’ll reveal the Forbes centennial issue, which highlights 100 of the greatest living business minds and their ideas for the next 100 years. In this spirit, for the sixth annual Forbes 400 Summit on Philanthropy, we’ll convene innovators and philanthropists from around the world to help us understand the depth and scope of increasingly complex global challenges, as well as the opportunity for innovative ideas and practices to solve them.

The past 100 years have seen incredible scientific discoveries, medical advancements, and changes in technology that have revolutionized the world. Can we take the next steps over the next century, and end poverty, create a sustainable planet and create a better world for all humanity? The stakes have never been higher -- neither have the opportunities.

2:40pm Interactive Brainstorming Every participant at the Forbes 400 Summit on Philanthropy has proven themselves a problem-solver and a difference-maker. Led by the consultants at McKinsey & Co., we’ll break into groups, focusing on three different structural approaches to philanthropy. How to create your philanthropic business You wouldn’t run your business without a strategy – and your philanthropy should be no different. Philanthropists are confronted by a litany of questions. Which issue areas to focus on? In what geographies? What should you do beyond cutting checks? How will you know if you're having impact? In this session, we will discuss the process for developing a social impact strategy with the same rigor you would a business plan. Session leader: Tracy Nowski, Associate Partner, McKinsey & Company How to structure your philanthropic vehicles The philanthropy sector is in the midst of structural change with the creation of LLCs, donor-advised funds, capital aggregation vehicles and innovations within the historic foundation construct, allowing impact to be realized in ways that haven’t been possible within the conventional foundation structure. This session will be a robust discussion about innovative philanthropic models, lessons learned and an exploration of how to maximize social impact. Session leader: Manisha Gulati, Partner, McKinsey & Company

A multi-generational approach to philanthropy For many, the philanthropic journey goes beyond supporting and creating social impact. Some seek to introduce and engage successive generations of their families to their charitable work, while also aspiring to use the vehicle of their philanthropy to keep families bound. Others see their philanthropy as solely about using accumulated wealth to positively attack social problems. We will explore the philosophy behind these different approaches, and how to align family foundations when their dual objectives conflict. Session leader: Joe Daniels, Former President, 9/11 Memorial & Museum; Special Advisor, McKinsey & Company

3:50pm Special Session Yusuf / Cat Stevens, Artist & Activist Hugh Evans, Chief Executive Officer, Global Citizen Moderator: Randall Lane, Editor, Forbes Magazine
