At Just For Kix, kids shine! We celebrate the achievements of all students. Focus is on teamwork, technique, doing your best, having fun, and learning routines! Styles include kick, hip hop, jazz, lyrical, and more! Most classes also include basic ballet technique. Older classes will get the opportunity to compete, and all classes are guaranteed 4 performances! Proven company starting it’s 39th year of dance classes, our 17th year in Fridley! Come join our JFK family.

Enrichment

Driver’s Ed Training (Ages 14-18)Classroom training can be taken by students who are 14-1/2 years or older and consists of 10 three-hour lessons. Each lesson is independent and can be taken in any order. If a lesson is missed, the student can make it up when and where it is convenient at either another Fridley Community Education class or at a Safeway classroom. Lesson calendars are available on Safeway’s web site.

Behind-the-wheel training consists of 3 two-hour private lessons which can be scheduled online or by calling Safeway’s office (651-351-9150). Pick-up and drop-off is at home, school or work. Training is done in a white late-model car with Safe-way’s “Student Driver” graphics.

Classroom training and Behind-the-wheel training are included in the cost.

Safeway Driving School was selected by Fridley Community Education to provide teen driver’s education. Safeway is the largest driving school in Minnesota. It has an A+ rating with BBB and is a BBB Accredited Business. Safeway has 70 expe-rienced instructors backgrounded and licensed by the MN Dept. of Public Safety. Chess Camp (Grades K-8) Want to amaze your friends and impress your opponents? Want to increase your IQ while having fun playing Chess and compete for various prizes? Learn from Twin Cities Chess Club instructors who have years of teaching experience. Competitive chess tournaments are scheduled once a year and students can play for real chess trophies! All chess levels are welcome! Transportation is provided to the Fridley Community Center after-school from both Hayes and Stevenson. Snack and supervision will be provided upon arrival to the Fridley Community Center until instruction begins at 4:30 PM. Pick-up location is the Fridley Community Center. Child and Babysitting Safety (Grades 4-8)Learn the responsibilities of being a prepared, responsible, safe babysitter. Topics included are feeding and diaper-ing techniques, safety, child development, first aid, and fire safety. Participants will receive a Child and Babysitting Safety book and will work towards receiving an ASHI approved safety certification. The class will include baby dolls, bottles, and diaper supplies.

Home Alone Camp(Grades 3rd - 6th)

Just mention the words “Home Alone” and children think of the excitement depicted in the movies of the same name. The reality of being home alone can evoke fear and anxiety in many chil-dren. Whether left alone for an hour after school or several hours a day during the summer, children should feel comfort-able being alone. This workshop for chil-dren will address several topics relating to being “Home Alone” including personal safety tips, tricky people, basic first aid, fire safety, handling the unexpected, internet safety, dealing with boredome, storm safety, and trust and honesty.

Be Prepared, Not Scared(Grades K-2)Young children who are taught basic emergency concepts like how to call 911 can turn into Heroes in emergency situa-tions. Class topics will include recogniz-ing an emergency and what to do, calling 911, fire safety, basic first aid, dog emer-gencies, severe weather, and personal safety. Student will attend class on their own and parents will be encouraged to review the take home information with their child at home.

My Little Horse Camp (Ages 2-5)

This parent/child camp will feature horse safety, learning and fun! Spend the morn-ing learning different horse breeds, colors, and sizes. Participants will help feed, care, and groom the horses of Boulder Pointe. Scratch 3.0 Game Coding (Grades 3-7) This course will give participants hands-on experience developing their own game using Scratch 3.0. Students will learn how to think like a program-mer and learn coding while creating a two dimensional game. Please bring a USB drive, a snack, and some-thing to drink to class.

Robotic Builders: Gamer-bots (Grades 1-5)Let the games begin! Designed by the experts at M.I.T this unique system teaches students about simple machines, engineering, programming, and so much more. Students will be taught foun-dational building and introduced to programming concepts with learning about the sensors, motors, and special technics components. Working in small teams, students will build and program smart robots, based on popular games such as Angry Birds, Chutes and Ladders, Hockey, Just Dance, Pinball, Duck Hunt, and more. Engineering: Crazy Action Contraptions (Grades K-3)If you love Legos, building and experi-menting, this is the class for you. Fall Cheer Clinic (Grades K-5)Join the Fridley High School Cheerlead-ers for a cheerleading clinic. Participants will learn motions, jumps, cheers, and stunting. These cheer elements will be used to create a short routine that will be performed at half-time during the Sept. 20th Varsity Football game. Please register by Sept. 6th if you would like the t shirt.

FMS Volleyball Camp(Grades 5 & 6)

This is a great introduction to being and/or continue learning the game of volley-ball. We will have varsity coaches, former players, and guest coaches working the camp. This camp is designed to build on and/or teach the fundamentals that play-ers will used as they advance. The skills covered will focus on what is needed to be successful in volleyball as well as learning more advanced skills needed for the next level. Students will also break into ability groups and work on advanced skills as appropriate.Players should dress accordingly; tennis shoes, shorts, and a t-shirt (no tank tops). Players should also bring a water bottle.

Participants will receive a Fridley game pass to get into a high school game free with parent chaperone.

Participants will also receive after school snack and will be eligible to ride the activ-ity bus home at 4:30 pm. Participants must either ride the bus, walk, or be parent pick up. No class October 16.

FMS Running Club (Grades 5 & 8)

Participants will learn the basics of running, stretching, and general health through this camp. Also included will be information on proper running clothes and shoes, safety when running, possible events to enter, and more. All participants will receive after school snack and are eligible for after school activ-ity busing. All students must be a parent pick up, walker, or use bus transportation.

We will focus on a core set of skills that will be effective at any level of wrestling. Success in wrestling comes with master-ing these core skills. Require-ments for practice are a water bottle, t-shirt, shorts/sweats and wrestling shoes (wrestling shoes are recommended but not required). Vertical Endeavors (Ages 6-13)Vertical Endeavors Minneapolis Single Day Rock Climbing Camps offer children ages 6 to 13 the opportunity to explore the sport of rock climbing in a controlled setting that is fun and exciting for kids of all skill levels. No experience is necessary. In addition to our focus on fun, all our camps place a strong emphasis on risk management in the sport of rock climb-ing. Activities include cooperative games, top rope climbing, and climbing activ-ities. Fee AssistanceResidents of the Fridley School District who are unable to pay the full registration fee for classes may request fee assistance by calling 763-502-5100 or [email protected]. by email. Some classes may not qualify for fee assistance or it may be limited. Students within the district on free or reduced lunch are eligible for reduced prices on most classes with proof of participation in the free or reduced lunch program.

UCare DiscountUCare members may take up to a $15 discount on most classes listed in our catalog. If a class is less than $15, the member may take the class free of charge. Members must be on UCare at the time of registration and through the duration of the class(es). Members will need to include to include their ID number when registering. Classes that are not eligible for the discount include homeopathy, high risk activities (rock climbing, etc.), hypnosis, and personal trainers. UCare for seniors allows one discount per year.

Senior Citizen DiscountCommunity members 62 years and older may attend classes at 10% off of the regular fee unless otherwise noted. This discount does NOT apply to classes offered outside of Fridley or Fridley Senior Program Classes.
