A Celebration of Unity

Simply speaking, it was an incredible night of worship. The Celebration of Unity service Sunday evening, September 18th, in Loyd Auditorium will long be remembered as encouraging, inspirational, and yes, unifying! All eight Chester County congregations of the Lord’s church, along with FHU students, came together for a night of true celebration. This could not happen in many places, but thanks be to God it can happen here, and we pray it is the first of many such occasions celebrating our unity in Christ. The service touched me deeply, and from the comments heard from many, they could not remember a period of worship they enjoyed more. What provided such joy?

First, it was a celebration of our faith. As Paul said, “We believe, therefore we speak” (2 Cor. 4:13), and we do so together. We also sing together, pray together, read God’s word together, and share God’s love together. Our faith is in Almighty God and His beloved Son, Jesus, the Christ, Savior of the world and Lord of our lives. Those who led us in this special service were each outstanding, and we commend them for leading us closer to the Lord.

Second, it was a celebration of our fellowship. What a privilege it is to live in Henderson and Chester County, to be blessed with the presence and encouragement of the best people to be found anywhere on earth, to love each other as God first loved us, and to love the people who make up our community. The early church was taught to be of the same mind, the same heart, and the same voice as they carried out the Lord’s work, and because of their unity the gospel spread to the entire world (Col. 1:23). It can and it must happen again!

Third, it was a celebration of our family. Obeying the gospel of Jesus Christ adds us to His body, His church, His family. We are accustomed to being the children of God, but this is an honor and a responsibility we must never take for granted. Each day we rejoice in the blessings we receive from our gracious and generous Father.

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity”! (Psalm 133:1)

Bill Wade This coming Sunday, Sept. 25, is our University Day. Philip Jenkins from the Mt. Juliet congregation will be our guest speaker for the day. Our community and more specifically our church is blessed to have a university among us. That’s a fairly uncommon situation considering the size of our town. We should all be doing what we can to encourage and support these university students, some who are away from

home for the very first time. One of the simplest ways we can do that is to let them know how much we appreciate them being a part of our church while they are in Henderson. Let’s get to know them and develop a relationship that will hold meaning to both them and to us. As we were reminded this past Sunday, October 30th will be our Mission Emphasis Day. We have been partnering with the Tunica congregation in Mississippi this year in a domestic mission. Several of you have gone to the Tunica church through the year and have helped in various ways. We are trying to help them with a building project and have asked our youth to collect coins for this project. It is going to take all of us contributing to make this mission successful. I’d like to encourage us all to consider giving towards this mission. The people that gather together in Tunica are some wonderful people and we certainly have the ability to help them, and we should be glad to do so. We have had several families and individuals to place membership at Henderson over the past few weeks. We are certainly blessed by this. For those of us who have been attending here for a while, we need to do everything we can to encourage them, include them and get to know them better. The apostle Paul wrote in Romans 1, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel….” As we go through life, whether in Henderson or visiting abroad, let’s keep this statement in our minds. We are called to be different than the world. We are called to be “light.” That light is to be constant, not just when it is convenient or when it is comfortable. We have the most impact on people when they see us living the life that Christ has laid out for us to live, away from church. Matthew 5:16 says, “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Quick Announcements: October Calendar – It’s coming soon! Be on the lookout for that because there will be a lot

of things going on!!! Devo- We have devo Sunday night (25th) at the Chad Thompson home. We will meet at the

church building at 5 p.m. if you need a ride. Girls bring tortilla chips and/or cookies. Guys bring drinks.

Fall Retreat: Fall Retreat 2016: BLESSED. We’ll be spending the weekend together studying through the Beatitudes of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. The world tells us that being things like mournful, meek, peacemakers, poor in spirit, etc. make us weak and won’t lead to success. Jesus tells us that those things will make our lives BLESSED. So who’s right? We’ll be studying each beatitude in devos, small groups, and alone time. We’ll also be playing some cornhole, ultimate Frisbee, football, and a few new games that Bill and I have been planning. And of course…lights out singings! If you plan on going, the cost is $30 and you’ll need $ for one meal on the way there Friday night. Bring a sleeping bag, pillow, towels, plenty of clothes, blankets in case it gets cool during the night, YOUR BIBLE, a notebook, pens, chargers, etc. Retreats are always one of my favorite things that we do throughout the year and I’m really looking forward to studying together.

Hope that you have an awesome week!

Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. – 1 Timothy 4:12

Youth Group Happenings The Annual BBQ Festival is September 23 and 24th. The youth group has a devotional scheduled for Sunday, September 25th at the home of Chad and Sandy Thompson. Our fall retreat begins on Friday, September 30th and goes through Sunday, October 2nd. Cost for retreat is $30. As usual, we have a prayer breakfast at Jacks every Tuesday morning at 7:00AM. For Bible class this quarter on Sunday morning we will be studying the Epistles of Paul. You’ll want to bring your Bible with you. There is a lot that we can learn from these books.
