2nd SCIP LATIN AMERICA COMPETITIVE INTELLIGENCE SUMMIT
Welcome to 2nd Annual SCIP Latin American Summit
It is with great excitement that I welcome you to the Latin American Summit for
Competitive Intelligence Professionals. In 2009 we held our inaugural event in Latin
America in Sao Paulo. The event was a wonderful success it was only natural that we
would return to Sao Paulo in 2010 to once again take the opportunity to deliver the best
intelligence content to the attendees, continue the process for each of us to develop a
network of peers in the community and to provide a forum for service providers and
practitioners to interact in a collegial environment.
In viewing the economic climate during the last twenty fours months, we are reminded how
quickly change can occur. The ability to anticipate change and adapt to an ever changing
landscape is one characteristic that makes each of you a great intelligence professional.
This conference endeavors to provide you with not only the latest in tools, techniques, and
action plans for the future in your respective industry, but a platform to learn from both
presenters and peers.
The program was developed with the assistance of an insightful committee comprised of
Edson Ito of Givaudan SA, Adrian Alvarez of Midas Consulting and Paulo Gustavo
Franklin de Abreu of Embraer. The committee’s objective was to provide a program that
offered a global, regional, and local perspective on the profession and the current climate
for Competitive Intelligence Professionals. When you see these individuals please take a
moment to thank them for their volunteer efforts.
As we developed the program 2009 and again in 2010, all involved parties perceived the
need for a local community of peers that could interrelate during the course of the year to
develop skills and relationships on an ongoing basis. It is with great pride that the 2010
Latin American Summit will also serve as the kick off meeting for a local SCIP Chapter in
Brazil. I would encourage each of you to find a way to become an active participant in the
chapter in the coming year.
In attending this conference, I am sure you will find the presenters, the service providers,
and your peers stimulating your intellect and fueling your passion for learning. Enjoy the
experience.

How Culture Changes Intelligence
Multinational or branch offices may all carry the same company banner and logo but within
them house people with very different belief systems and cultures. The executive in Brazil
may want a competitive insight that appears very different than his counterpart in Germany
or in Japan – even though they are examining the same competitor. The culture of the
executive can color the type of intelligence he or she wants, how they communicate their
need, and even how they make their arguments. Companies, too, display cultures of
acceptance, of cynicism, even distrust. This talk will include case examples of where
culture plays a role in your everyday intelligence lives. The audience will learn:
· How to identify the culture of your audience in advance
· How to shape the type of intelligence you deliver based on that audience makeup
