Four orphans in desperate need of helpLife has been tough for the four orphans of the Macuveza family of Mahatlane for a long time.

The children have been the most tragic victims of poverty, with no one to look after them since their Mozambiquan parents disappeared three years ago and later passed away.

Although the children stay in a four-room house, life is tough as they always go to bed hungry.

The orphans don’t have any “government papers”. The two young ones, Andlani (5) and Julia (3), are in possession of South African clinic cards. Palmira (16) is in Grade 10 at Mahatlani Wayeni Secondary School. The other orphan, Nkhensani, is 13 years old.

The orphans don’t have school uniforms, shoes, warm clothing or blankets. Their unem-ployed aunt, Ms Lybrass Mathye, recently moved in with her sister’s children.

She told Limpopo Mirror that she was forced to move in with them because there was no one to look after them. “It does not solve any problem because I do not have any source of income to feed my sister’s kids. All of us are forced to sleep hungry and cold.”

The village’s traditional leader, Chief Sibisi Mahatlane, said he was aware of the plight of the Macuveza family. “I am prepared to assist the orphans because I know they are living below the poverty line. They haven’t received birth certif-icates and I am trying to assist them in applying for a welfare grant and to get certificates. I appeal to Limpopo Mirror readers to assist this pover-ty-stricken family because their living conditions are devastating.”

The local ward councillor, Sabinah Rikhotso, said the Macuveza orphans deserved a better life and care and support from all members of the community. “God did not bring anyone into

this world to suffer. These orphans are a precious gift from Him. We want to prove the fact that it is possible for one to live a normal life even when one does not have parents. We love these kids wholeheartedly and we want them to have a bright future and to be responsible and self-dependent adults.” Sympathetic community members who would like to assist the struggling orphans can call 072 4971765.

The police are appealing for help in tracing a missing schoolgirl, Adivhaho Mulumbela. She is a pupil at Maniini Primary who went missing while preparing to go to school. According to Thohoyandou police spokesperson Maj Mashudu Malelo, she went missing on 4 May. She was last seen wearing her school uniform. People with information regarding her whereabouts are requested to phone Const Thusani Kwinda on 083 355 2707 or Adivhaho’s father, Mr Moses Mulumbela, on 081 895 0941.

Legal team to look at the town’s nameResidents in the Makhado municipal area will have to ab-sorb a 12,2% rise in electricity tariffs, but other rates will only increase by 4,8% in the year to come.

During the annual budget speech delivered by the mayor of the Makhado Municipality, Cllr David Mutavhatsindi, at Waterval last Friday, he reflected on the past year’s achievements. He started off, however, by ad-dressing the highly controversial issue of the name of the town, Louis Trichardt.

“There are those who always want to convince us that the re-naming of our towns and public institutions cannot be a priority when there is still huge backlog in terms of service delivery,” said Mutavhatsindi. He said that these people seldom explained why

they advocated for a name to be used of someone who only stayed in the area for a very short time, but objected to that of a historic leader who defied colonial rule for many years.

“… together with the National Department of Arts and Culture, we have put together a legal team that is meant to challenge how the review of the name was processed,” he said. Mutavhat-sindi added that a street-renaming committee was appointed to en-sure that the street names of the town “also speak to the history of the liberation of our country.”

Muthavhatsindi shifted the focus to the manner in which the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) was spent over the past year. During the 2013/14 financial year, the municipality received close to R45 million for

the manner in which they suc-ceeded in spending this money. Sadly, this grant was not fully spent during 2014/15 due to, said Mutavhatsindi, the Limpopo Road Agency that caused a delay in approving projects such as those at Chabani, Bungeni and Magau. “…but we are sure 100% expenditure will be achieved before the cut-off date and no money will be returned back or rolled over,” said Mutavhatsindi.

For the coming year, the mu-nicipality has budgeted for a 16,1% increase in operational revenue, totalling R751,59 mil-lion. Operational expenditure is expected to rise by 9,1%, total-ling R835,13 million, leaving a shortfall of just over R83,5 million. This will be funded through capital transfers, which leaves a final surplus of roughly

R41 million.A big chunk of the expenditure will go towards

employee-related costs and remuneration of coun-cillors at an incremental rate of 4.4%. The total salary bill to the amount of R264,14 million will include the budgeted positions to be filled during the new financial year.

Residents will also have to tighten their belts as electricity, property and service rates increase. Electricity rates are budgeted to increase by 12.2%, property rates by 4.8%, services by 4.8% and sun-dry tariffs by 4.8%.

The total budget to implement capital projects is R492,86 million. This includes money from equi-table shares, various grants and integrated national electrification and public works programmes.

This money will go towards the achievement of the municipality’s seven strategic objectives, such as investment in the local economy and human capital, accessible basic infrastructure services and sound financial management and viability.

Income that the municipality generate by their own means (service fees, licences, permits and interest) are budgeted to be spent on salaries, debt impairment, finance charges, bulk purchases and other expenditure.

Mutavhatsindi indicated that grant money will help to ensure that the municipality becomes a city by 2025 and gave examples of certain projects that are already being funded. These projects include the upgrading of some streets in Tshikota (completed), tarring of roads in Eltivillas (completed), the new landfill site in Louis Trichardt (still in progress), the upgrading of Vuwani’s sport facilities (in progress) and the upgrading of the road between Chavani and Bungeni (in progress).

Other projects that the municipality will imple-ment in the coming year include: assisting in the development of the new Motor City on the corner of Rissik Street and the N1, developing tourism by means of scholarship programmes and the annual Makhado Show.

These projects will also aid the municipality, said the mayor, in remaining one of the top six of municipalities in the province that are “doing rel-

Well-known journalist killed in car crashThe journalism industry and readership has lost an excellent journalist, Suprise Mazibila.

He died in hospital on 26 June, two days after he was involved in a vehicle accident near Mbombe-la in Mpumalanga. Mazibila was a journalist for Sowetan.

He earned himself respect in the Vhembe district when he penned hard-hitting human inter-est stories which elicited interest and curiosity among readers. He wrote the controversial story about racially separate toilets at the Vleissentraal office block in Louis Trichardt.

The news editor at Sowetan, Mr Lucas Ledwaba, said that it was very tragic, since Mazibila was a young man with a lot of potential. He said that it would be an understatement to say that his death was a great loss. “He was starting to make ways in Mpumalanga when his life was

unfortunately cut short. He was a very humble and intelligent young man. We want to take this moment to thank the people of Vhembe for taking care of this man when he was in Vhembe last year.”

A close friend to Mazibi-la, Kaizer Nengovhela, is still shocked by his death. He de-scribed Mazibila as the type of journalist who always wanted perfection and would research his stories before going to press. “Suprise, or Motsonga wa xibiri as I would call him, was a man in a league of his own,” said Nen-govhela. The seasoned journalist Wilson Dzebu said on Facebook about Mazibila’s death: “I’m shattered. He was one of the best writers I ever came across.!”

Another veteran writer, poet and editor, Goodenough Mashe-go, said: “Mazibila’s death is a daylight robbery to us all. A

bird flew off and we remain with feathers.” Mazibila’s sister, Angy Khoza, said that her brother was a crown of love and motivation among the youths in the village.

He will be laid to rest at Acorn-hoek Matsikitsane on Sunday morning.

Netshimbupfe Royal Family in succession disputeThe royal family of Netshimbupfe is divided over who should succeed the late Thovhele Vho-Vusani Munyadziwa Alpheus Netshimbu-pfe and the matter is already in the High Court for a decision.

The late Thovhele Netshimbupfe was born on 8 September 1951 and he passed away on 17 June 2013. Since his death, Funzani Netshim-bupfe, who is not the son of the late Thovhele Netshimbupfe, has taken the matter to the Thohoyandou High Court, claiming that he is the rightful heir to the throne.

Funzani is supported by Mbula-heni William Netshimbupfe (ndumi) and Makwarela Constance Mu-tavhatsihoi (makhadzi) in his bid. He is opposing the decision taken by the chairperson of the royal council, Vhangani Cathcart Mulaudzi, and his team, who decided that Mulatedzi Netshimbupfe is the new leader .

The decision to choose Mulatedzi was taken on 20 July, 2014, and it was taken to the tribal council on 25 July, where they endorsed it.

Funzani, who is the son of the late Tshisevhe Edward Netshimbupfe, took the matter to court in August last year. He is arguing that he is the rightful heir to the throne because his late father, Tshisevhe Edward, was on the throne until the early nineties. He was removed after a fi nding by the Mushasha Commission. The commission also ruled that the late Thovhele Vusani Munyadziwa Al-

pheus Netshimbupfe was the rightful candidate and he was installed in December 1991, and he ruled until his death.

The matter was fi rst struck off the roll in July last year. However, the applicants, led by Funzani, brought the matter to court again this year. When the case eventually made it to court in June, it was postponed under controversial circumstances. This came after Acting Judge Colleen Collins recused herself from the mat-ter, stating in chambers that there was someone who was trying to infl uence her.

Col l ins said that a male per-s o n h a d called her on her pri-va te ce l l phone, sug-gesting that she must mee t t he family that was r ep -resent ing the appli-cant before the matter was heard on the set date. The said caller approached her again at

the Khoroni Hotel the night before the matter could be heard, where he allegedly introduced himself to her and continued suggesting that she must side with the applicant.

Acting Judge Col-lins said she could not continue presid-ing over the case. It was then decided that presentations by both parties would be made to the Judge President to appoint a new judge.

“Grandmother” of Luvhalani passes awayThe old lady, mother and grandmother to many peo-ple in the district, Juffvrou Vho-Angelinah Masakona Makhokha, will be remem-bered for her amazing kind-ness.

The 78-year-old Vho-Mak-hokha passed away last Monday. She was the wife of Vho-Frans Makhokha, the man who started Luvhalani village in Nzhelele. The marriage was blessed with 11 children.

According to the family spokesperson and the deceased’s son, Mr Tshimangadzo Emman-uel Makhokha, who gained rec-ognition after buying EFF leader Julius Malema’s house, the fam-ily had lost a loving and lovable mother and grandmother.

“We can only comfort all church members and other peo-ple whose lives she had touched here in Southern Africa with the words that she had gone to

be with the Lord,” he said. “I recall her as an old lady who would not hesitate to wake up in the middle of night and cook for either church members who were visiting the family from other provinces or just complete strangers in the village. She taught us humanity and love.”

For many years, she was a congregation leader at the Luvhalani branch of The Holy Revelation Apostolic Church.

Bishop Asser Mashudu Muf-hadi of Ravele branch, in the Sinthumule area, described the old lady as a hardworking mem-ber and leader of the church and community. “She was a good example of what a believer was, both in the church and outside,” Bishop Mufhadi said. “Today I am a bishop, but I came out of her good hands. She moulded a lot of us into good vessels of honour.”

Bishop Mufhadi added that

Juffvrou Vho-Makhokha had taught all her grandchildren that the fear of God was the beginning of all wisdom. “I am so afraid that no one will replace her position in the church be-cause she was a strong, prayerful lady,” he said.

She is survived by 10 chil-dren, 67 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was laid to rest at Luvhalani last Sunday morning.

Some family members and relatives stand close to the tombstone of Juffvrou Vho-Angelinah Masakona Makhokha.

Juffvrou Vho-Angelinah Ma-sa kona Makhokha was a kind mother and grandmother to many people in the village.

Shaking hands after the official opening are, from left to right, Mahlodi Rasefate (learner), the CEO of De Beers Consolidated Mines, Phillip Barton, Dineo Baloyi and Dominic Phahlani.

The Minister of Mineral Re-sources, Advocate Ngoako Ramatlhodi, official opened the Ratanang Special School’s hos-tel facilities worth R12 million in Senwabarwana last Friday.

The project is a joint venture between De Beers mining group, as part of the mine’s Social Labour Plan, and the Limpopo Department of Education. Ac-cording to the Department of Ed-ucation MEC, Ishmael Kgetjepe, De Beers signed a memorandum with the department in which they outlined their partnership in providing infrastructure for the schools in areas located within the De Beers Venetia Mine’s labour-sending areas.

“A storm destroyed the hostel part of the school and therefore De Beers contributed to the ren-ovation thereof. (The project) has since been completed, hence the handing over,” Kgetjepe said. “The hostel facilities at the school will accommodate up to 320 learners,” he said.

Ramatlhodi described the do-nation as yet another example

of De Beer’s commitment to the needs of communities who require material assistance. He added that his government was committed to a broad programme to develop the capacity of dis-abled people. The school is the only one in the Senwabarwana area that caters for mentally disabled children around the area.

“It is high time that all con-cerned parties, parents, com-munities, public servants and politicians join hands to ensure that children with disabilities have the same opportunities as other children,” said Ramatlhodi.

The CEO of De Beers Consol-idated Mines, Mr Phillip Barton, said that they had partnered with the Department of Education to build hostels at an estimated cost of R12 million. He said that all parents had a responsibility to look after their children, ir-respective of whether they were born in or out of wedlock. “We must send a clear message out there that people with disabilities are as human and productive as everyone else in society. Dis-

abled people, like all members of society, have the right to human rights and dignity.”

The principal of the school, Mr Tefu Leseba, expressed his appreciation for what De Beers did for the special schools. He indicated that a shortage of class-rooms was the main challenge that they were facing, as they had only four classrooms catering for a large number of learners. He urged parents to stop abusing these people and to stop using them as sources of income. He said that the disability grants should be used in the way they were intended to be used.

Parents of the school voiced their opinions regarding the teachers at the school. “The teachers are not just teachers, but also social workers at the same time. They are really doing an excellent job. Gone are those days when people used to chain their children at home because they have disabilities. Let them come and learn with others, be-cause they have potential like all other children.”

The Ehlers family of Mphego outside Thohoy-andou suffered a terrible shock when they were robbed by three men last Wednesday.

Besides leaving them in trauma and shock, the family said the incident left them disorganized and their businesses disturbed. The incident happened at around 13:20 at their farm in Nandoni.

Mrs Trisha Ehlers (30), who was alone preparing lunch, said she heard dogs barking outside and immediately suspected trouble. “I went out to in-vestigate, only to be confronted by two men armed with knives. They ordered me to shut up and not to move, but I shouted at the top of my voice and ran towards the swimming pool. They stabbed me with their knives and tied my hands with a rope before forcing me back to the house,” she said.

She further indicated that while in the house they ransacked the whole house, looking for money. “I told them my husband does not keep cash in the house and they grabbed a laptop, cellphone, two air rifles, a bag with cards and medicine.”

She added that they also pointed a gun at her while demanding money. They also used a walking stick to hit the dogs that were barking.

Ms Ehlers said she had to consult a doctor for counselling. Her husband, Chris, who owns the farm and another business at Tshisahulu, said he came back and used his military skills to follow the spoor of the criminals.

He said the robbery had disorganised his business as he lost important information that was on the laptop. “I cannot do big withdrawals and all my business which was in the laptop was deleted, all my records are gone,” he said.

Limpopo police spokesperson Col. Ronel Otto confirmed the incident and said they had arrested three men in connection with the incident. Two

were arrested at Mphego while the third was ar-rested at Maniini.

Ndinannyi Maduka (24), Rudzani Makhaya (29) and Thuthani Munyani (23) appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Monday and were charged with house robbery. They will appear again on 6 July to apply for bail.

Members of Luvhalani school and community with their Canadian visitors.

Farewell to Canadian studentsThe school community of Luvhal-ani Primary had an emotional send-off for three students from York University in Canada last Thursday.

The students, who were accom-panied by their lecturer, Dr Andrea Emberly, had been at the school for three weeks. According to Emberly, a professor in Children’s Studies at York University, the students came for an educational visit to learn about the lives of children in South Africa.

“Students came here to learn on how to be a child in South Africa. They wanted to know about the similarities and differences between South African and Canadian children. I came with 15 students. Some went to Matavha, Tshakhuma and Raluthaga, also in the Tshakhuma area. We chose Tshakhuma, because of its uniqueness and the rich culture people have here,” said Emberly.

The students, Sophia Tevez, Nic Lall and Cale Zimmerman, also helped in the refurbishment of old classrooms, where they fi xed a falling roof, painted some walls and drew the school emblem.

In his farewell speech, Lall, who spoke on behalf of the students who visited Luvhalani, thanked the school community for welcoming them. “From the fi rst day when we were here, we were warmly welcomed. This was an extension of our home. We were happy to be here and are sad that we are leaving today. Personally, I am quite sure that I will come back one day,” said Lall.

Speaking on behalf of the pupils, Phungo Ndou said he would miss them. “They taught us a lot. Although I am sad that they are leaving, I am happy that most of us are now able to communicate well in English because of them,” said Ndou.

A long-serving, respected and hardworking member of the Department of Correctional Services, Mr Sekopelo Ndou, has been appointed as head of Makhado Correctional Centre with effect from 1 June this year. Ndou joined the department on 17 July 1995.

Afropop diva Malondolo to perform in France

Chief Ramugondo buried at Ngudza village

Chief Thivhulawi Makumbane of Tshisahulu has urged pa-trons at Vhulelu Restaurant in Tshisahulu to support local artists and to be proud of being Africans.

Makumbane was the guest of honour during a recent thanksgiv-ing and farewell party in honour of queen of Afropop music Malondolo.

She was recently selected, through the assistance of Inde-pendent Music Exporters South Africa (IMEXSA), to showcase her talent at the Midem Trade Show in France.

The trade show, which is billed as the leading international busi-ness event for the music industry,

has been held since 1967.About the event, Vhulelu

Restaurant owner Mr Tosh Denge said the Vhembe region had a dearth of entertainment, even though the region had lots and lots of talent.

“As a business we are here to show support to our artists who, despite the odds in this part of the world, continue to make us proud by producing good mu-sic. Since the start of her music career, Malondolo has come up with music that makes one really proud to be an African.

Chief Thivhulawi Makum-bane, himself a well-known jazzophile, took the guests by surprise when he first gave a

splendid display of his jazz dancing skills before addressing the guests.

Makumbane said local music would go nowhere if it was not supported.

“Most of our artists die paupers because of a lack of support, and piracy has reached alarming proportions. Let us do something about this and support these artists. We commend the man-agement of Vhulelu for taking the lead in acknowledging artists like Malondolo, who continues to hoist our flag high,” he said.

In response, Malondolo said she was humbled and that her visit would not only benefit her but the whole region.

All the best to Malondolo (third from left). Also sharing the toast are Chief Thivhulawi Makumbane (second from left), Vhulelu owner Lutanyani Denge (fourth from left) and other dignitaries.

One of the senior traditional leaders in the Vhembe region of Limpopo, Thovhele Kennedy Tshivhase, has used the funeral service of the late Chief Ratshalingwa Ramugondo to cement his good relationship with Vhavenda King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana.

“King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana has sent me to address the mourners. I am the king’s aid and I am happily working under him in an effort to bring real development to our communities,” said Thovhele Tshivhase.

He said he was very sad as the late Chief Ramu-gondo “was my good messenger and an eye when I am not there. He worked very hard and dedicated to serve his communities in Ngudza village and to the Tshivhase communities in particular,” Tshivhase said.

As usually happens in the Vhavenda culture, when a chief is installed or buried, the tshikona dance was part of the funeral proceedings. Chief Ramugondo (75) of Ngudza village outside Tho-hoyandou passed away a fortnight ago at the Med-iClinic in Polokwane after a short illness.

Mr Nnditsheni Ramugondo read the orbituary and said the late Chief Ramugondo had been in-stalled as chief of Ngudza village in 1986, after he had succeeded his father, Chief Mmbulaheni Ra-mugondo. He said Chief Ramugondo served as the chairperson of the Tshivhase Tribal Council under the leadership of Thovhele Kennedy Tshivhase for almost 30 years.

The mayor of Thulamela Local Municipality, Cllr Grace Mahosi, applauded Chief Ramugondo’s

“wisdom and visionary leadership skills, when he served in many committees in the municipality. He used to advise us as the municipality about the developmental projects and programmes affecting his communities.”

Thovhele Kennedy Tshivhase addresses the mourners during the funeral of the late Chief Ratshalingwa Ramugondo.

Musina mayor proud of service delivery

Photographed shortly after the State of the Municipality address are, standing from left to right, Cllrs Nkele Milanzi, Prince Tlou, Fistos Mafela, Evelyn Shirilele, Bigboy Ndou, Simon Madamalala, Grace Mavhungu, Swane Kaunda and Wilson Dzebu (Musina Municipality Communications Manager). Seated are: Cllr David Mutavhatsindi (mayor of Makhado Municipality), MEC Jerry Ndou, Cllr Mihloti Ramoyada, Cllr Showa Moyo (mayor of the Beit Bridge Town Council in Zimbabwe) and Chief Solomon Nduvheni.

Mayor Mihloti Ramoyada em-phasised the huge progress in terms of service delivery in the Musina Munisipal area when she delivered her State of the Municipality Address during a ceremony at the Musina show grounds last week.

When she announced the total operational and capital budget of R255 335 914, Ramoyada also used the occasion to report on the progress, challenges and future plans of the municipality.

She announced that they had recently bought a grader at a cost of R3,4 million, a historic achievement for the municipality when taking into consideration that they had operated for many years without an own grader. They have also acquired a bakkie

for the technical department and a sedan for the traffic department. “As part of accelerating service delivery in the licencing unit, we have also procured a play detec-tor to make sure that our people get the much-needed services at their doorstep.”

She also mentioned that they had filled 44 vacant positions during the current financial year. According to her, the current municipal projects are nearing completion and she assured guests that the municipality was performing doing well in terms of financial management.

Ramoyada noted, however, her concern about people who do not pay for municipal services. “We are still unable to provide some of the services because of

the high amount owed by con-sumer debtors, which is more than R30 million. We are em-barking on campaigns to educate our people that it is important to pay for services, so that we can in return use the money for the benefit of our communities.”

Some of the projects to be implemented during the finan-cial year, which started on 1 July, include the development and gazzetting of by-laws, the purchase of compactor truck, the surveying of sites in Nanacefield Extension 9, township establish-ment in Nancefield, the purchas-ing of a geographic information system, a tow truck, traffic vehi-cles and an alcohol test detector, the upgrading of the town feeder line, replacement of the 11KV

line with underground cables for Extension 6 and the construction of a traffic client centre.

The MEC for Public Works, Jerry Ndou, con-gratulated Ramoyada, her councilors and mu-nicipal administrators on prioritizing the needs of the community.

“The provincial gov-ernment will continue to work with munic-ipalities to improve the lives of ordinary community members. Today’s occasion is a true reflection that we are all serious about service delivery issues,” he said.

Investigations continue in Magoro murders

Government to monitor all initiation schools

The police at Hlanganani have confirmed that investigations are continuing in the two mur-der cases which took place on 11 and 12 June at Magoro village, Tiyani.

A 38-year-old Ethiopian national, Mr Beyane Nabeforc, was shot twice in the stomach and died on his way to the clin-ic on 11 June. The residents, however, helped the Ethiopian businesspeople to identify and find one of the three suspects, a man commonly known as The Great Maluleke. About 100 Ethiopians, some coming from Mpumalanga, allegedly gathered at Magoro and stoned Maluleke to death.

“Even if it were true that the business people and residents

suspected The Great (Maluleke) to have killed Mr Nabeforc, they still had no right to take the law into their own hands and kill the presumed suspect,” said the police’s spokesperson, W/O Stephen Makhubele.

He said that the ghastly video, which showed people violently murdering The Great, had been forwarded to a special unit in Polokwane for focused investi-gations. “No person is allowed to kill another; we have got no law which says people must avenge any murder whatsoev-er,” he said.

Meanwhile, shortly after the killing of The Great on 12 June at a local tavern and cafe, a group within the community had said openly that they were

going to search for, find and kill the other two suspects. The sus-pects were said to be residents of a neighbouring Olifantshoek village. The date for the killing was scheduled for 17 June, at around 09:00.

On that day the police, how-ever, kept a watchful eye to make sure that no person or people committed any crimes of mob attacks or public violence.

“The situation in Magoro is under control,” Makhubele said. “Residents understand that it is the police’s duty to arrest the suspects of any crimes.”

So far, no arrest has been made in either case. All at-tempts to reach members of the Ethiopian community around Magoro proved fruitless.

The police in Limpopo issued a stern warning to all traditional surgeons who intend to stage initiation schools without proper documentation this winter.

Col Ronel Otto said that the illegal initiation schools contributed to deaths which happened in the bushes each year.

“Innocent boys lose their lives as a result of cir-cumcision that go horribly wrong, due to incompe-tency of unregistered surgeons, and the police will have none of such this season,” Otto said.

The police will not tolerate the abduction of boys into these initiation schools in the disguise of culture and tradition. “Every year, reports are also received of young boys or men who are kid-napped and taken to initiation schools against their will,” she said. “Those found to be forcefully dragging innocent boys to circumcision will face the wrath of the law and police will be on the lookout for that.”

The SAPS, the De-partment of Health, and the Department of Co-Operative Gover-nance, Human Settle-ments and Traditional Affairs and other stra-tegic stakeholders have formed a provincial joint priority to oversee and monitor the smooth running of the schools and curb any unbecom-ing and criminal be-haviour.

“Parents are urged to verify the legitimacy of the initiation school with their local tradi-

tional authorities before sending their children,” she said.

The provincial police commissioner, Lt-Gen Fanie Masemola, said the police would work hand in glove with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that no casualties were reported in Limpopo Province.

“Even those approved initiation schools will not be spared from unannounced visits and inspec-tions,” Masemola warned.

“No boys under the age of 12 must be admitted at these schools and we will be out to guard against that as well. Those who fail to comply will have the police to deal with.”

He said that the police would respond swiftly to any reported case or incident of young boys or men who were kidnapped and taken to initiation schools against their will.

The Great Maluleke was allegedly killed by a mob of businesspeople at Magoro village.

Minister of Communications Faith Muthambi has urged government communicators to pro-vide information to journalists, so that there can be enough coverage of the government’s work in the media.

Speaking to delegates during the Vhembe Dis-trict Municipality’s district communication confer-ence held at the research conference centre of the University of Venda on Monday, Muthambi said journalists could not be totally blamed for some of the bad publicity given to the government. This came after some of journalists lamented that they struggled to get reaction from councillors about developments in their areas.

Muthambi said she was aware that journalists struggled to get comments and information about important projects. “In most cases, journalist will be writing a story about a project that is happening in the community. When the journalist tries to get a comment, the councillor responsible will not be available to give information.” She also added that some of councillors were not communicating with their constituencies in their respected areas as is prescribed in the Constitution.

“This lead to a serious frustration at the com-munity level, which leads to unnecessary protest marches as the members of our communities are not aware of the developments in their areas,” said the Minister.

During a presentation made by Moses Shivambu of the Vhembe District Municipality, it was re-vealed that the communication departments of the district municipality and its local municipalities, except Thulamela, are under-staffed.

“Thank you for the coverage”Greetings

I would like to convey my deepest and heartfelt apprecia-tion for what you and your team at the Limpopo Mirror have done for us here at Ha-Musekwa.

On behalf of myself and the community - we are humbled by your kindness and care about rural

development. We would like to ex-press our sincere gratitude for the coverage of the story which was in the paper on 26 June: Youth cele-brate their own day at Ngundu.

Thank you very much. May the good Lord bless you and your team.

- Emmnuel Netshivhambe.

Muthambi said she would make sure that communication departments received priority in all municipalities across the country, as they were important tools to help in communicating with the public.

She also raised con-cern that the communi-cation officers from the Mutale and Makhado local municipalities did not attend the confer-ence.

Dr Naledzani Rasi-la, from the Premier’s office, said the media were to be blamed for sensationalizing stories

that could fuel hatred against foreign nationals.

Communications Minister Faith Muthambi.

The gospel singer Dorris Davhana has moved from popular gospel to reggae-gospel with the release of her much-awaited new album, Ndi do mu gwadamela.

She is now known in music circles as Jah Lady Dorris D.

According to people who had already bought and listened to the songs contained on Ndi do mu gwadamela, Jah Lady Dorris D gives her all as she takes listen-ers to greener pastures with her velvety voice.

“I have kept my promise – when I promised my fans that I would come back with a reggae-gos-pel album,” she said. “Music, thor-ough its genres, is very broad

- and people must not fear change. I need all my fans to understand that a change of genre or sound does not mean that I am no longer the same singer whom they have known, supported and loved through the years.” The album con-tains songs such as Holy Spirit, Give me power, Vho hangwa u livhuwa, Ndu wale tshifhamba-no, Shango ndi la Mudzimu, and Khotsi anga.

Jah Lady Dorris D said that she understood very well that people, particularly her

fans, would always be curious about her change of dress and genre.

“There are some people who have started asking me a lot of questions about my person,” she said. “They ask if I smoke ganja. It’s so funny,” she laughed softly. Her previous albums

include Baxolele Nkosi (2009), and Murena He Vha Vula Hone (2014). Jah Lady Dorris D is also a motiva-

tional speaker and a member of the local project which fi ghts

piracy. She believes that when God opens up

Prifix is making lyrical wavesThe talent of a young VenRap artist, Prifi x, aka Tendani Mathaga, is quickly gaining momentum after the release of his debut album, Born and Raised.

The album boasts 15 tracks. In the song Funanani, Ten-dani’s gift as a storyteller is apparent and amazing.

There are more standout songs, such as Born and Raised, Vhutshilo ho

shanduka, and Rudzani.The 21-year-old Tendani

was born and raised in Mapate village, south of Thohoyandou. His journey as a singer started with collaborations with differ-ent musicians and he ended up becoming well known in the music industry.

“I started writing songs at 17, working with different

people from different re-cording labels in different places,” he said. “But as a result of my being a solo musician with no one to call a manager, my musical

journey became a very hard mountain to climb.”

“Not making it today doesn’t mean you won’t make it in future,” he advises. “Show the world that you can still make it. In every disappoint-ment there is an appoint-ment of you

and something good about to happen; only God knows.”

Tendani had to endure many rejections, or what he calls “disappointments”, before he was recognised and got a deal as an artist with Mos-Bee Record. “I want to thank Tshivhidzo Raymond Mulalo (well-known as Lavhutanu Li Do Swika) and Phalanndwa Goodman Mos-Bee Mpfariseni for recognising my talent,” he said.

He said that the platform of a singer gave him an opportu-nity to tell the world through his music that all challenges and problems could be defeat-ed.

“Changing people’s lives through the music that I make is the main focus of my album,” he said. “The focus is not only on telling the world how I was born and raised but also to educate people on how to overcome diffi cult situations in our families, relationships and in everyday life events that we face.”

Tendani can be reached through his manager at 0762818736 or 0716054657.

We still have a huge challenge to

teach our people that they should invest wisely, with people such as Murovhi, and we strongly condemn fl y-by night businesses who rob people of their hard-earned cash.”Ms Ronelle Pretorius, head of Broker Servicers North, praised Murovhi for his loving; caring spirit and because he gave to the needy. Pupils at Mahwasane Primary School in Muledane will no longer have to use the old and dilapidated toilets with broken seats, thanks to CTM in Thohoyandou, who donated new toilet sets. “Our school was adopted by CTM in Thohoyandou in 2011 and since then, our school is changing for the better,” said Ms Atonia Tshamano, principal of Mahwasane. She added that the education of the children would change for the better if huge companies became involved with schools. The sales manager of CTM in Thohoyandou, Mr Mmboniseni Mauda, said children were the future leaders of the school and if they invested in them, they would get reliable customers in the future. Photographed during the presentation of the seats are several pupils, as well as Mesdames Maria Luruli and Gladys Mbovu (SGB members), Messrs Stanley Nembahe (teacher), Charles Mahwasane (chairperson of SGB), Thabelo Gumani (sales assistant of CTM), Ms Atonia Tshamano (principal), Mr Mmboniseni Mauda (sales Manager CTM) and Mr Witness Maswangayi (far right), the store manager.

Victim of crime turns to inyangasAfter break-ins into her house and night attacks, Ms Johana Ngoveni decided to turn to inyangas for help.

This after the police had failed to investigate the cases and find the short, broad-shouldered suspect who terrorises her.

“I am from the bushes now as you see me, to burn a T-shirt that I was wearing the night a thief at-tacked me in my house in 2014,” she told Limpopo Mirror. “My inyanga gave me some muti and told me to burn it with the T-shirt, so that the attacker might suffer brutal consequences.”

It all started one night in 2010, when her hut and rondavel were set alight in Olifantshoek village, near Tiyani. She lost furniture and other goods to an estimated value of R75 000.

“Even though I reported the matter to the police, they did nothing,” she said.

On 22 June 2014, at midnight, the same short man broke into her house through a window that he had smashed. “I shone my cell phone’s torch on him and asked him what he wanted,” she said. The man allegedly stabbed her three times in the elbow and arm.

“He demanded to kiss me, not even caring that I was bleeding profusely in the arm,” she said. “But I pulled at his private parts and bit his lips. He managed to bolt out of the house.”

She phoned the police, who came and opened a case. She noticed that three window panes of her house had been shattered.

“I inquired from the local clinic if any man had come for help with bitten lips,” she said. “But they said no.”

All the windows of her house were smashed in September 2014 in yet another incident.

“I heard someone smashing them as I slept inside the house,” she said. “I told that person to continue to smash the windows and get inside to do whatever he wanted to do to me. But he ran away.”

However, in the most recent incident, one win-dow was smashed in the night while she was away in Gauteng and some goods were stolen from her house.

“My speaker, CDs, clothes, and tools are miss-ing,” she wept. “I reported the incident to the police, but they are dragging their feet.”

Johana said she was tired of burglaries into her house and endless attacks on her.

“I have turned to inyangas now, but it’s not helping either. I have already spent R7000 trying to get inyangas to cast spells on the people who break into my house and steal from me,” she sobbed, but her spouse, Mr Samson Baloyi, comforted her.

Baloyi told her to be strong.“Don’t tell me to be strong,” she lamented. “Even

the inyangas are just eating my money for nothing. Nothing bad is happening to the people who steal my things!”

She said she wanted the police at Magoro in Tiyani to help her.

The provincial spokesperson for the police, Capt Mamphaswa Seabi, advised Ngoveni to ask to see the station commander at Hlanganani police station. “The station commander will then see how best to help her,” Seabi said. “This is really a sad case to hear that a victim of crime has turned to seek help from inyangas. The police are there to help her.”

This time around, the thieves even damaged her woofer box.

Ms Johana Ngoveni is seen here at one of the windows.

Tough victory for Kuruleni’s Fighters

Tshikota Chelsea win anti-xeno tournament

Kuruleni Happy Fighters fought hard to earn a 7-6 victory over Tshakhuma Na Ndilani FC in their Top Four Soccer Tournament at the Kuruleni grounds on Sunday.

Both sides displayed entertaining football from the onset, creating scoring chances for their strikers, who kept on fumbling at the goal fi nish. Happy Fighters were the fi rst to squander a scoring chance. Their slender striker, Chris Hlongwane, could not believe his eyes when his half volley hit the woodwork and bounced back into the fi eld of play in the 14th minute. This after he had received a beautiful pass from Irish Maphophe at the edge of the penalty box.

Tshakhuma Na Ndilani were the fi rst to effect

change to their starting line-up. They replaced Maduvha Matodzi with Valley Tshishonga in the 38th minute. Happy Fighters came close to scoring again two minutes before half time. Israel Masingi received a brilliant pass from Mukhethwa Mukoma inside the box and hesitated for far too long to unleash, until he lost possession.

Fighters used all their substitution chances. They introduced Happy Malulele, Mpho Sotshaya and Matimba Ntsumele for Mukhethwa Mukoma, Oscar Mathebula and Irish Maphophe respectively in the 59th minute.

Fighters played defensive football in the last 15 minutes of the game. No goal was seen during in the regulation time and the winner was determined through a penalty shoot-out. Fighters converted seven of their chances while Makhurabada scored six. Fighters received a cash prize of R1 600 after the game.

Tshikota Chelsea emerged as the kings of the anti-xenopho-bia soccer tournament after beating United Stars 3-1 in the fi nal at Tshikota on Sunday.

Stars could have taken the lead in the eighth minute, had it not been for the fact that Aluwani “Killer” Nedzamba´s goal was disallowed.

Chelsea’s Maradona Muru-wanthi combined well with Matha Ratshilaya at the front, but Ratshilaya committed a huge blunder when he shot straight to the stranded keeper of Stars in the

28th minute.Chelsea took the lead in the

30th minute. Maradona Murwanthi caught

the Stars keeper off guard and scored with a beautiful header to make score 1-0.

Stars missed two clear chances in quick succession, with Hilton Tshivhula and Pfano Sithuga the culprits. Mudjedje Mathatha forced his way through Stars’ defence and beat the keeper hands down to make the half-time score 2-0.

Chelsea were unstoppable in

the second half, and it was not by accident that they scored their third goal in the 67th minute. Thabelo Musenwa broke loose and beat the keeper with a ground cutter.

Stars’ solitary goal came in the 70th minute via veteran player and former Black Leopards and Supersport striker Thabo Monga-lo. He converted a penalty.

Chelsea went home with R1 500 and a fl oating trophy, while United Stars received R500. The four teams beaten in the first matches received R200 each.

Mr Jacob Mathonzi, a local youth leader, presents the trophy to Muofhe Nevhulaudzi, the captain of Tshikota Chelsea. With them in the photo is Mr Erling Matika, organiser of the tournament.

Tshikota Chelsea celebrate after the match.

Photographed from left to right are Karabo Kgapana, Rodney Ramagalela, Luckie Motswalahosi and Thanyanyani Khantshi during the event.

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Rodney Ramagalela encour-aged young children to par-ticipate in sport. He addressed players and guests during the prize-giving ceremony of the Ramagalela U/17 tournament at Mabvuka last Sat-urday.

Ramagalela spon-sored the tournament. He said he was a proud supporter of local foot-ball development and said Limpopo was rich in talent and "we have over the years seen many talented soccer players being unearthed from this province". He said that he would like to continue to develop the relationship with development teams and provide something tan-gible that the people will value.

Mr Thanyani Khant-

shi stated that the government could not curb the high rate of un-employment alone. He appealed to the business community to follow in the footsteps of Rama-galela, saying sports had become a major employment provider of

late. He mentioned that football was a good vehicle to fight unem-ployment and poverty.

Mabvuka All Stars were crowned as the champions. They went home with a new soccer kit and a floating trophy.

The players and fans of Happy Fighters celebrate the team’s victory after the game.

By Frank Mavhungu

Kuruleni Happy Fighters are the 2015 Top Four Soccer Challenge champions. They beat Tshakhuma Na Ndilani (TNN) 7-6 in the final at the Kuruleni grounds on Sunday.

Happy Fighters were pre-sented with R1 600 during a ceremony that was held at the grounds shortly after the final. TNN received R400.

The other two teams that participated in the tournament were Hozana Citizens and Bofu-

lamato FC. Happy Fighters beat Bofulamato FC 5-4 in the first semifinal match earlier that day.

The semifinal match between TNN and Citizens was not played to the finish. TNN were awarded a free kick just outside the box 18 minutes before the end of the regulation time. The referee’s decision did not go down well with both the players and officials of Hozana. The officials invaded the pitch as a way to vent their anger. They

confronted the referee angrily, accusing him of favoritism.

The organizers had to inter-vene and rescued the referee. At that stage, Hozana were leading 1-0. The officials of Hozana then ordered their players to leave the pitch and pack their bags and go. Realizing that the game had been abandoned, the organizers declared the match a walkover for Tshakhuma Na Ndilani, who met the hosts, Kuruleni Happy Fighters, in the final.

During the handing over of trophy are, from left to right, Kunie Makhushu, Thapelo Masuwa, Evans Maramahae and Leah Tshimenze.

Shoni Maluleke of Musholombi controls the ball, while Vhutshilo Kwinda is attempting to intercept.

Musholombi winner of youth challengeMusholombi FC were crowned as the champions of the Makhushu/Musholombi Youth Develop-ment Soccer Challenge when they beat Makushu Mataks 1-0 in the final at Musekwa on Saturday.

The game provided huge entertainment from the onset. It took the referee only nine minutes to flash the first yellow card. Abram Mudzhiba of Musholombi was reprimanded for ignoring the referee’s whistle. He kicked the ball away long after the referee had blown the whistle for an offside.

The keeper of Mataks, Collen Ramufhi, made his presence felt in the 24th minute. Shoni Maluleke of Musholombi unleashed a half volley from inside the box, and Ramufhi executed a brilliant save.

Mataks came close to scoring in the 34th minute. Collen Ramufhi received a beautiful pass from Rofhiwa Rabali within the box and hesitated for too long and eventually lost possession. Musholombi solidified their midfield by introducing Petrus Sebola and sacrificed Trust Musekwa.

The goal which separated the boys from the men came in the 67th minute. Shoni Maluleke hit the back of the net after a free kick taken by Abram Madzhiba. Mataks replaced Rofhiwa Rabali with Robbie Ramaremisa later in the game.

In this year’s edition of the winter games, various youth teams under the jurisdiction of Musina Municipality will battle it out in different sporting codes, which include soccer, crick-et, rugby, volleyball, tennis, basketball, softball, boxing, chess, pool, karate, netball and tennis.

The official opening of the tournament will take place on Monday at the Skoon-plaas Stadium, and the finals in all the sporting codes are scheduled to take place on Saturday (11 July). A number of local celebrities and dignitaries are expected attend this year’s youth tour-nament in Musina.

The organising committee for this year’s tournament, led by Ms Mercy Madamala-la, the community liaison of-ficer of Musina Municipality, has already completed the preparations for the games.

“We have worked around the clock to ensure that everything is in place for all the events. Our plan is to ensure that the tournament grows and attracts not only people in Musina and Vhembe, but also elsewhere in the country,” Madamalala said.

One of the many youngsters who will be representing their

teams is Mpho Mulaudzi, who received the prize for the best boxer last year. He said he was preparing hard for the tourna-ment. “I want to set a tone high in Musina. Everyone will know that I am a true boxing champion in Musina. I am ready and I en-courage others in their respective sporting codes to do the same.”

“Power” destroys BegwaAlson “Power” Baloyi was a marvel to watch when his team, Tshaulu Power-line, crushed Begwa United FC 3-1 in the fi nal of the Boy Nemakonde Soccer Challenge at the Tshifudi Stadium on Saturday.

Baloyi scored a hat trick. He was every-where, collecting balls from the middle of the park while playing as a striker at the same time. He was in the thick of things in the 11th minute. He received a neat pass from his captain, Khuliso Libago, and beat the keeper with a volley.

Beron Musimeki of Begwa ran out of steam within the fi rst 20 minutes of the game. He was replaced with Rudzani Se-

anego in the 18th minute. Begwa realized that it was not their day when their fast forward, Khuliso Netshikwati, missed a fortune. Netshikwati went loose from the left corner in the 24th minute and suffered the pain of watching his half volley going astray.

The wheel of fortune turned against Begwa seven minutes before the end of the fi rst half. Rofhiwa Nekhavhambe dribbled past two defenders in a row and dished out a square pass to Baloyi, who was in the perfect scoring position.

Although he was standing next to the goal line, Baloyi did not leave anything to chance. Instead, he blasted in a rocket

from close range to bring the half-time score to 2-0.

Begwa came back strongly in the last half. They pulled one back in the 57th min-ute. Khethekanyo Nemudzivhadi headed home, following a corner kick that was taken by Mulele Mudau.

Talifhani Netshivhungululu of Begwa was warned with a card for faking injury in the 69th minute. Begwa introduced Norman Mbedzi for Khuliso Netshikwati two minutes later.

Begwa lost hope after Powerline in-creased the margin in the 74th minute. Power Baloyi was on target once again after a scramble within the box.

The coach of Powerline, Mr Nkhetheni Bohwana, congratulates his team’s three-

goal hero, Alson “Power” Baloyi, after the game.
