Alliteration: The repeated consonant sound at the beginning of words. Hyperbole: An extreme exaggeration. Metaphor: The direct comparison of two unlike things (“like” or “as” is not used to make these comparisons). Onomatopoeia: the use of words whose sounds echo their meanings, such as buzz and gargle. Rhyme: Repetition of sounds at the end of words. Repetition: a technique in which a sound, word, phrase, or line is repeated for emphasis or unity.
