2 CBI’S 45TH ANNUAL CONVENTION

CBI has a legacy of serving and defending Iowa’s community banks, helping to chart a course as do each of our member banks in serving their communities. In spite of numerous industry changes and competition, CBI education, advocacy and services continue to reach out, supporting community banks in their efforts to maintain personal relationships for years to come.

The CBI Management Conference and Annual Convention is the premier event of the summer. It brings Iowa’s community bankers together to learn both from each other and from industry experts. Events like the Mixed-Pair Golf Tournament and the Kick-Off Reception on Wednesday night, the Gala/PAC Auction & Tradeshow Thursday night, and the Bankers’ Golf Tournament on Friday afternoon provide great opportunities for camaraderie and networking with your fellow Iowa community bankers.

We make a difference in peoples’ lives and communities – it’s the essence of what community banking is about and the legacy we work to preserve. I urge all Iowa community bankers to join us on the voyage at CBI’s 45th Management Conference and Annual Convention in Okoboji.

Ron Hansen, Superintendent of the Iowa Division of Banking, will speak at the Second General Session and the Regulators’ Panel Breakout Session. He is a native of Durant, Iowa, and after graduation from Durant High School he attended Arizona State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. Ron is also a graduate of the

Graduate School of Banking at Colorado.

Ron got his start in banking in 1969 when he began working summers at Liberty Trust & Savings Bank in Durant. However, his first full-time banking job was with Security Pacific National Bank in Los Angeles, CA. In June 1975 Ron returned home to work at Liberty Trust & Savings Bank full time. In July 1995 he was named President and CEO of the bank and then Chairman of the Board and CEO in March 2014. He has also held the positions of Director and Trust Officer for Liberty Trust & Savings Bank; Chairman of the Board, President, Treasurer, and Director for Liberty Bancorporation; and Director for Liberty Insurance Agency.

This year’s First General Session opening speaker is Professor Peter Ricchiuti. He’s the business school professor you wish you had back in college! He teaches at Tulane University’s Freeman School of Business where his insight and humor have twice made him the school’s top professor.

Peter started his career with the investment firm of Kidder

Peabody and later managed over three billion dollars as the assistant treasurer for the state of Louisiana. In 1993 he founded Tulane’s highly acclaimed Burkenroad Reports student stock research program. Featured Speakers

Spouses, family and Associate/Affiliate guests are all encouraged to attend the GeneralSessions. Presentations by Peter Ricchiuti, Stephen Hayes, Ron Hansen, Rebeca Romero Rainey

and Mack Dryden will be informative and entertaining for ALL attendees!

Ron has served on the Education Committee of the Community Bankers of Iowa, helped found and served on the Board of the Mississippi Valley Bankers Association, and was the Past President of the Iowa Hawkeye Chapter of BAI and Cedar County Bankers Association. He has also served his community in various capacities with the Durant Chamber of Commerce, Durant Development Corporation, Durant Ambulance Service, and the Durant Jaycees; he has served on various committees of the Durant Community School District as well.

Rebeca Romero Rainey is the newest Chairman for ICBA, the only national trade association that exclusively represents community banks.

Chairman and CEO of Centinel Bank of Taos, N.M., and a third-generation community banker, Rainey has served ICBA and the community banking industry for many years. As ICBA Chairman, she is chairman

of the Executive Committee as well as the board of directors. She serves on the Nominating and Lending committees, is past chairman of the Federal Delegate Board and Minority Bank Council, and serves on the Policy Development Committee. She has served on the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Advisory Committee on Community Banking and the Kansas City Federal Reserve Community Depository Institution Advisory Council. In December 2009, she met with President Obama to discuss lending practices and regulatory reform.

Romero Rainey is past president and current board member of the Independent Community Bankers Association of New Mexico and is actively involved in several local nonprofits. She is also a board member of the New Mexico Partnership. In 2009, she was selected

Taos Citizen of the Year and has been awarded the New Mexico Governor’s Award for outstanding women. Romero Rainey is a graduate of Wellesley College and the Pacific Coast School of Banking. Upon graduating from Wellesley, she returned to Taos with the dream of continuing her family business of running the town’s only local community bank.

Our Keynote Speaker this year is Mack Dryden, who has been delighting audiences for years with his relaxed stage presence, hilarious material, and uniquely engaging delivery. As a comedian he’s performed on dozens of TV shows, including “The Tonight Show” with both Johnny Carson and Jay Leno.

Humor comes naturally to the former staff writer for “Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher”, and his stories of surviving two battles with cancer, a stay in an African prison, “sharks in showbiz who stab you in the front,” and one “near-fatal marriage” are as inspiring as they are laugh-out-loud funny.

From humble beginnings as “the funniest paper mill employee in Mississippi,” Mack earned a black belt in karate even as he was earning his Masters in Creative Writing. He won two Associated Press writing awards as a reporter in his home state, and finally became a professional comedian whose talent and perseverance landed him numerous TV appearances and got him hand-picked by Bill Maher to write on the acclaimed show.

Now based in Louisville, KY, he spends his time writing and traveling the country bringing his special brand of motivation and inspiration to thousands each year. It hasn’t been an easy road; but, as he says, “Falling on your face is still moving forward!”
