AT THE TABLE
In today’s first reading, Wis-dom is imagined as a woman
rich in poise and grace. She moves smoothly and confi-
dently about her temple‑like
home. She doesn’t flutter about, nervous with worry.
Wisdom sends her maidens to invite all to her open house.
The guests do not possess
any particular genius or in-sight. They need only be a
people of good will and common sense. They are summoned to leave behind foolishness and to find for themselves a place
at Wisdom’s table. There they may and can eat and drink deeply.
Today’s Gospel draws us back to the table of the Eucharist.
Jesus addresses those who seek to understand his words and, sadly, those who seek to avoid them. As people born of God,

En la primera lectura de hoy, la sabiduría se presenta como una
mujer rica en aplomo y gracia. Se mueve fácilmente y con con-
fianza en torno a su templo-
hogar. No anda mariposeando, nerviosa y preocupada. La sabi-
duría envía a sus doncellas a invitar a todos a su casa. Los
invitados no tienen que tener
ningún talento o conocimiento en particular. Tan sólo necesitan
ser personas de buena voluntad y sentido común. Se les llama a dejar atrás las tonterías y buscar para sí mismos un lugar a la
mesa de la sabiduría. Ahí pueden comer y beber a fondo.
El Evangelio de hoy nos lleva de nuevo a la mesa de la Eu-
caristía. Jesús les habla a aquellos que buscan entender sus pa-
labras, y, tristemente, a aquellos que tratan de evadirlas. Como pueblo nacido de Dios, estamos llamados y preparados para

A Change in Plans
Earlier this summer, as Br. Jorge Monterosso, O.Carm. was pre-paring to leave our parish to return to Washington, DC to begin his theological studies, we were told that a new intern was being assigned to our parish – Br. Felipe Navarette, O.Carm. In the course of the summer, Felipe made a decision to leave our com-munity and is no longer a Carmelite. So, he will not be joining us.

Se preparaba para irse de nuestra parroquia para regresar a Wash-ington, DC a iniciar sus estudios teológicos, nos avisaron que un interno Nuevo había sido asignado a nuestra parroquia—Hno. Felipe Navarrete, O.Carm. En el transcurso del verano, Felipe decidió dejar nuestra comunidad y ya no es Carmelita. Por lo tanto el no llegará.
As the new school year begins many of our stu-dents’ families are thankful for the financial assis-tance available to them through CTSO making it possible for them to afford a Catholic education.
If you haven’t used this excellent avenue for keeping Catholic Schools as an option for education of our children, one way you can do so may be through the Payroll Depart-ment of your place of employment by asking them to with-hold a specific portion of the taxes already being deducted from your paycheck directing it to CTSO for St. Cyril of Alexandria School. Brochures for this method are available in the racks by the doors of the church.
Other options are by signing up for a regular contribu-tion either by a recurring charge to a credit card or by electronic funds transfer (EFT) from a bank account. You will receive a receipt from CTSO in January for the 2015 tax year and you may call the CTSO office anytime to request one to be sent to you.
Taxpayers qualify for a dollar-for-dollar Arizona state tax credit (up to $2,134 for a couple filing jointly or $1,067 for a person filing single) for contributions up until 15 April 2016 which will be credited to them on the 2015 Arizona tax return. Taxpayers who itemize deductions may claim all contributions made 1 January through 31 December 2015 as a charitable donation deduction on their 2015 Federal tax return. So, in consultation with your tax professional, you can decide how much you would like to direct to our parish’s school through CTSO. We appreciate each and every donation.

Confirmation Preparation
Confirmation I: Begins the 1½-year process for high school students who want to be confirmed in 2016. Classes start on Wednesday, 26 August at 6:30 PM in Dougherty Hall. Register with our Religious Education Office.
Confirmation II: For high school students who were a part of the Youth Ministry–Catechetical Confirmation I program last year. Classes continue on Wednesday, 26 August at 6:30 PM in North/South. Confirmation will be celebrated at the end of No-vember.
All Students need to register in order to enter into sacramental preparation classes this August.

Adult Confirmation Classes this Fall
Once again this year, we will celebrate Confirmation in our parish at the end of November. In preparation for this, we will be offering a preparation series five 1-hour classes in English for adult Catholics (18 years or older) who were baptized and have received First Com-munion but have not been confirmed. Classes will be held on Tues-day evenings from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM beginning on 8 September and continuing on 15 September, 20 & 27 October, and 3 Novem-ber. If you haven’t been confirmed and would like to celebrate this sacrament, details are available from Fr. Edgar ([email protected] or 795-1633 x 111).

Why Do We Have a Special Day Set Aside to Commission Catechists?
Catechesis is a distinct and special ministry in the
Church. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church makes clear, “Catechesis is intimately bound up with the
whole of the Church’s life . . . her inner growth and
correspondence with God’s plan depend essentially on catechesis.” This ministry of teaching in the name of
the Church has a profound dignity, which is why cate-chists are formally commissioned by the Church. It is
only fitting that we set aside a day to highlight this ministry and invite the entire church community to think about
our responsibility to share our faith with others. We will celebrate Catechetical Sunday, 23 August, the first day of Religious Educa-
tion Classes.

La catequesis es un ministerio distinto y especial en la

Catholic Women Care for their Homeless Sisters at
Sr. Jose Women’s Shelter
The Sr. Jose Women’s Center of Tucson, Arizona is dedicated to the care and nurture of homeless women within our community. To women without shelter, beds are provided; to those without food, nourishment is given; and, to those without pur-pose, engagement is offered. The volunteers are women reaching out to women with dignity, respect and com-passion.
The women served by the volunteers come from all walks of life, some suffering from problems we can only imagine, others who were living a life just like our own until recently. Women experiencing homelessness are young and old, well-educated and illiterate, employed and unemployed. They come from all religions, cultures, races and ethnicities.
The center is named in honor of Sister (Sr.) Jose Hobday, a Franciscan nun who dedicated her life to helping the poor. Learn more about the shelter and its ministry by visiting the web page: www.srjosewomensshelter.org.

El Sr. Jose Women’s Center de Tucsón, Arizona se dedica al cui-dado y atención dentro de nuestra comunidad, de mujeres sin hogar. A las mujeres sin hogar, se les proporcionan camas; a las
que no tienen comida, se les alimenta; y, para las que no tienen ningún propósito, se les ofrece ocupación. Las vol-untarias se acercan a las mujeres con dignidad, respeto y compasión.
Las mujeres atendidas por las voluntarias vienen de todos los ámbitos de la vida, algunas sufren con proble-mas que sólo podemos imaginar, otras que hasta hace
poco, vivían como nosotros. Las mujeres sin hogar son jóvenes y viejas, bien educadas y analfabetas, empleadas y desempleadas. Vienen de todas las religiones, culturas, razas y etnias.

PCIC represents the great cultural, economic, and religious variety in Pima County. We are every-day citizens from
churches, synagogues, nonprofits, small businesses, neighborhood groups, schools, unions, and other volun-tary associations.
St. Cyril’s has been a member of PCIC for many years. Many parishioners have taken advantage of the various offerings PCIC has staged in order to: Get to know where candidates for election stand on various issues Learn about particular issues and concerns in our city, state, country Access job training for living wage jobs through JobPath (a non-profit agency
launched by PCIC and the business community) Work in solidarity with other faith communities to effect change.
Monies designated for PCIC in the monthly Second Sunday Sharing collection help to pay our membership dues. Next Sunday, we will take up an annual special collection in support of this inter-faith alliance.
Pima County Interfaith Civic Education Organization... Is the active new affiliate assisting PCIC in community
education, issues research, and public skills development. The mission of PCICEO is the education and training of active citizens capable of engaging successfully in public life. There are four areas of focus: • Teaching the skills of public life at the grassroots level. • Establishing community based service initiatives. • Evaluating the impacts of community based initiatives.
Researching state policy and budget impacts on Tucson and surrounding communities.
