SPRINGFIELD RESCUE MISSION’S COLDEST DAY 5K RAISING AWARENESS OF HOMELESSNESS

Our 5K through Forest Park in the City of Springfield is the Rescue Mission’s largest

fundraiser. This will be our 7th Annual Coldest Day 5K Walk/Run on Saturday,

February 1, 2020.

PROGRAMS YOU’LL BE SUPPORTING

Emergency Shelter: SRM’s overnight facility provides shelter for up to 43 guests with shelter which includes a shower, change of clothes, evening meal and breakfast the next morning. Over 9,300 shelter beds and 18,000 meals will be provided in 2019.

Men’s New Life Rehabilitation/Transitional Program – A 12-month residential, Christian Rehabilitation Program for homeless men in a structured environment. Over 6,300 beds and 20,400 meals will be provided in 2019.

Public Breakfast: Breakfast is provided Monday through Saturday serving a nutritious morning meal to men, women and children. Over 23,400 meals will be served in 2019.

Operation SONshine: SRM’s mobile food service van delivers nutritious meals, hope and prayer for homeless and poor men, women and children. Over 22,000 meals will be provided through this ministry in 2019. Give Away Center: Each week, SRM’s Give-Away Center provides men, women and children with clothing, hygiene items and other essential items for daily living. Over 75,000 items of clothing and other items will be distributed in 2019. Holiday Meals: A traditional holiday meal with prayer is provided for homeless and low-income individuals on Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Over 1,700 people will be attending these events.

ABOUT THE EVENT

More than 200 runners and walkers, along with their friends and families, will come together

upon the starting line in Forest Park. This fundraising event is to raise awareness about the harsh realities of being homeless during the winter and the solitude and loneliness that

surrounds them each day.
