Sermon Outline

“How will you be remembered?” 2 Timothy 4:6-7 CEV, “Now the time has come for me to die. My life is like a drink offer-ing being poured out on the altar. I have fought well. I have finished the race, and I have been faithful.” Be strong in God’s grace 2 Timothy 2:1 (NLT), “Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus.” Multiply your influence 2 Timothy 2:2 (NLT), “You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.” Be willing to pay the price 2 Timothy 2:3-7(NLT), “Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Je-sus. Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them. And athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules. And hardworking farmers should be the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor. Think about what I am saying. The Lord will help you understand all these things.” Tertullian writes, “No soldier comes to the war surrounded by luxuries, nor goes into action from a comfortable bedroom, but from the makeshift and narrow tent, where eve-ry kind of hardness and severity and unpleasantness is to be found.” John Stott writes, “Soldiers on active service do not expect a safe or easy time. They take hardship, risk, and suffering as a matter of course.”

Sermon Notes

Hebrews 12:1a (NIV), “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witness-es, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.” Hebrews 12:1b, “And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.” Remember Jesus 2 Timothy 2:8 (NLT), “Remember Jesus Christ, who was raised from the dead, who is from the family of David. This is the Good News I preach…” Hebrews 12:2-3 (MSG), “Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!” Reflection…

Journey Families has planned TWO Egg Hunts on Saturday, April 19th - one at here at the Journey starting at 11am for all our Journey families and their friends, and one at Landsdowne Community Center at 2pm. There will be a story time, prizes & lots of candy! We hope you can join us for this exciting day --- AND BRING YOUR FRIENDS! We also need volunteers, both here and at Landsdowne! If you can help, please contact Michelle D’Angelo at [email protected]. There is also a sign up sheet in the lobby.

Journey Family, April marks our remembrance of the extent God was willing to go in order to draw us to Himself, and no day more poignantly demonstrates that than Good Friday, when Christ bore our sins upon the cross. Bring your family or come alone on Good Friday, April 18th, any time between 6 and 9 pm, and walk and pray through the days before Jesus’ death at the stations of the cross. This year the stations will also include more family-friendly meditations and activities, geared towards those with younger families.

On April 25th & 26th, our youth group will participate in World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine. We’re getting a crash course in global hunger by fasting for 30 hours while raising money to help feed and care for hungry kids and their families around the world. But we need your help! We’d like the whole church to be involved in our Famine. Here’s how you can help us rewrite history … 1. Pray. Ask God to bless our students as they make this sacrifice and “love hungry.” 2. Participate. We need volunteers to help with our Famine Weekend! 3. Give. Support our students’ fundraising efforts and help them change lives. Every $35 they raise can help feed and care for one child for a month! Visit www.30hourfamine.org/donate and search for “the Journey” to find our group. Join our “Kiss the Cow” challenge! Donate $35, designate the funds as either “Adam” or “Jerry” - whoever gets the most money donated in their name will have to “Kiss the Cow!” (or camel, or pig, or whatever barnyard animal can be located).
