Although many of these resources are geared to dog lovers, a good many of them are helpful regardless of what kind of pet you have. Sometimes love happens and your new best friend, the canine love of your life, is not at all who you expected. At other times, you get to make an informed choice as to the type of dog you want. These sites will help you find your new best friend and will help you decide which dogs would be the best fit for you and your family. Petfinder.com is a comprehensive source for anyone considering adopting a pet. The "Before You Adopt" section helps you choose, prepare for, find and bring home your next family member. The "Adopt a Pet" pages link you to shelters and rescue organizations in the U.S. and Canada. You can search by breed, animal type, geography, age and size. AKC.org is the American Kennel Club site. It has information about purebred dogs and their people. Find reputable breeders in your area and learn about responsible dog ownership. ASPCA.org answers your questions about animal shelters and shelter pets. Find advice about getting a second pet, kids and pets, pet care, behavior issues and more. Puppy Mills: The Tragedy Continues This is an older article which is unfortunately still valid. Please do not buy a cute little puppy from a pet store. Over 90% of them come from horrific puppy mills like these. Instead, adopt from a shelter or rescue, or buy from a reputable breeder you trust. Dog Magazines Back in the day, you had to buy a paper version of your favorite dog magazine from your local store or purchase a subscription. Not anymore. Today, your favorite dog magazines can be found online. Although they may not post all of their articles, a great many of them are there for you to read for free. Plus, you can find specials such as polls,games, giveaways, contests, videos and other features that are only available on the web. Modern Dog Magazine has an extensive site with articles about everything dog. This very informative site also hosts giveaways, a dog of the week contest, and a place to list your upcoming dog events. Best of all, our book, Rescue Me is featured in the Summer 2015 edition. Dogster Magazine, formerly Dog Fancy, has articles about dogs, a page with games and quizzes, and club dog, where your dog can have his or her own webpage. Rescue Proud Magazine is the magazine for and about rescuing, adopting, and helping homeless animals of all kinds. Formerly, Rescue Me Magazine, the name was changed to better reflect their feelings about being animal rescuers. Our book, Rescue Me, is featured as a good read in 2014. A significant portion of subscription prices goes to an animal rescue you choose. Pets Magazine is a free monthly U.K. based magazine about pets and their people.
