Call to Worship

Leader: The foolish say, 'there is no God.'

People: We come, trusting in Jesus, the face, the voice, the

presence of the God who loves us.

Leader: The scoffers of our age ask, 'why do you seek after God?'

People: We come, in this time, because God's grace has spilled

over in our lives.

Leader: The hopeless around us think, 'no one cares about me.'

People: We come, in this time, to this place, because Jesus has

found us and brought us home. *Hymn - “Gather Us In” STF #2236 *Prayer of Confession (unison) Leader: We can no longer flatter ourselves about how good we

are. We do not need to make grandstand plays to get

God's attention. We only need to confess our lives, as God

makes good on the promises of grace and mercy. Join me

as we ask God to reform us into God's children, praying

together,

ALL: Heart of the Covenant: we have known your hopes for

us, and have disappointed every one of them. We have

heard your words of faithfulness, and forgotten every

one of them. We have seen your dreams for us, and

turned them into nightmares.

Forgive us, Hope's Heart. Silence every blustering word,

so we may hear your mercy. Still every feeble attempt to

justify ourselves, so we may be made right with you.

Melt every frozen heart, so we might be drenched in

your river of joy. May Jesus Christ continue to live in us,

so we might be free to live forever with you.

Silent prayers may be offered

*Words of Assurance

Leader: Be still and know the good news: God has not forsaken

nor forgotten us,.but redeems us.

People: Why should we be afraid? God is in our midst -

forgiving, restoring, sending. Thanks be to God. Amen.

*Sharing of the Peace Leader: The peace of Christ be with you. People: And also with you.

PROCLAIM GOD’S WORD

Children’s Sermon

(Children should follow Mrs. Kolecki out after the Children’s Sermon.)

Anthem - “How Excellent is Your Name” R. Wetzler

New Testament Lesson: Romans 3:19-28 (p.1026)

*Hymn - “Our God, We Are a Church Reformed”

Words by Carolyn Winfrey Gillette

AZMON 8.6.8.6 ("O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing")

Our God, we are a church reformed,

A church reforming still:

We long to grow in your true Word,

And follow more your will.

In love, you bring your people here

And call your church to you,

That we may know salvation's joy

And serve in all we do.

You call us to community;

By faith our hearts are stirred.

In church, we seek an ordered life,

According to your Word.

As faithful stewards we find joy;

We need no rich display.

Lord, teach us all to use with care

The gifts you give each day

RESPONSE TO THE WORD

*Affirmation of Faith - The Vision and Mission Statement of Collingswood Presbyterian Church

Offering God seeks our steadfast love rather than ritual deeds, our growth in

knowledge and relationship to our Creator more than token contributions that only conceal from ourselves the poverty of our

commitment. Come, then, to make a true offering that calls forth a dedication of self not before realized.

Musical Offering

*Doxology - PH#592 “Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.”

*Prayer of Dedication

Prayers of the People Leader: The Lord be with you People: And also with you. Leader: Let us pray. Prayers of Praise, Thanksgiving, and Intercession... All: Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Dear Congregation,

We all want to succeed.

We go to school and strive to graduate.

We find a job and strive to build a career.

We get married and strive to build our relationships and

possibly raise a family.

We strive to raise our children properly. We coach little

league softball or soccer, participate in PTA fund raisers,

assist in leading scouts, chauffer them to music lessons

and even teach Sunday School.

In every endeavor that you participate in, you strive for you and

the organization to succeed. It takes your time and often your

money to realize these goals.

As members and friends of Collingswood Presbyterian Church,

we all want it to succeed. The boards of deacons and elders

strive to keep the church alive in mission, education and com-

munity. Many of you have been active in those efforts and

have achieved wonderful things.

But the leadership ranks are thinning out. Some people are

reaching the maximum consecutive 6 years they can serve on a

board. Committees need new people to sustain our growth and

to keep moving forward. We need new people to volunteer in

continuing our churches efforts to succeed. Please consider

how you can get involved so that our church family can

succeed in being a fulfilling part of your life and how you can

succeed in growing in your faith.

Your Church Session

Session Highlights

We were challenged by the opening devotion calling us to

look at our building and procedures that welcome guests to our church. Are we greeting all visitors? Is there sufficient signage or directions for visitors? Are we being friendly out side of church to others?

There has been a dip in giving for the summer months - bring

your pledges up to date!

They lounge renovation are progressing well. The kitchen cabinets and dishwasher have been installed.

The classrooms on the second floor of Calvin hall are being

renovated.

Ryan Berkelbach has been accepted into membership.

We hired a nursery attendant for the year named Madeline Almand. We are excited about the new babies coming to CPC.

New members will be installed on September 29.

We voted to invite Rev. Bruce Main from Urban Promise to preach at our church on Sunday September 29.

We are happy to welcome Samantha Piccolo from the

Presbyterian Historical Society on Sunday 9/29. There will be a field trip for CPC members to the Society and to the Pine Street Church and cemetery on Thursday, 10/10.

We welcome Elder Marta Elvis Collazo, a life long leader in the Juan

G. Hall Presbyterian Church in Cardenas, Cuba. Her church is over

100 years old and has started two other mission churches in the area -

El Fuerte and El Cerro. CPC has assisted in installing water

purification projects in those churches. Marta is married and has two

adult children.

We are also thrilled to welcome Richard Aylor, our new Seminary

intern to work with us this year. Richard is in his 2nd year at

Princeton Seminary and recently got married this past May. He is

from Roanoke Virginia and recently served as a year long fulltime

intern at his home church. He enjoys working with youth and loves

the open and

541 water systems. 25 nations.

1500 volunteers trained.

20 years of service.

These are the facts associated with Living Waters for the World. However, numbers are merely symbols for a human story – the Christian story – lived out day after day, relationship by relationship, and drink of life-giving water by drink. The installation of a clean water system in a community resulting from the partnership between initiating and operating partners has been accomplished by a team from West Jersey Presbytery early this summer in a church in Cuba. It's just the beginning! Clean water will flow for years to come in order to permanently and positively change the lives of those served – particularly the children.

From Your Deacons

Your Deacons are very happy to announce that this year we will be making a monthly donation to sponsor a teenager in the Urban Promise StreetLeader Program. Teens in this program work for Urban Promise as counselors, tutors, and mentors for the younger children. The heart of the StreetLeader Program is challenging teens to use their influence to make positive changes in the lives of these children and in their own.

Thank you CPC – We Completed 28 Backpacks!!

With your donations the Deacons filled backpacks so that 28 children started the 2013 school year with the school supplies they will need to do their lessons. Six backpacks were given to an elementary school in Collingswood, and 22 to NewVisions Services in Camden. Thank you to everyone who contributed supplies and money to make this happen.
