Read the text with these questions in mind.

1. What are “couch potatoes”?

2. How can we keep healthy and fit?

Are You a Couch Potato ? Some people spend too much time in front of the TV and eat

too much fast food. They become lazier and lazier. They are called

couch potatoes. They say they like fast food because it is fast. But

the trouble with fast food is that it can make us fat really fast.

A healthy diet should give us what we need but not contain too

much fat or sugar. But fast food gives us much more than we need

and it becomes fat and stays with us. So we start to

look fat.

So what can we do if we don’t want to be couch

potatoes? The answer is more exercise. Exercise

makes us healthy and fit. If we spend less time in front

of the TV and our computer and spend more time

playing sport and joining in outdoor activities, we will

be slim and smart. We should all get out more!

Hi, Li Wei,

I can’t wait to tell you how good I feel after two months’ exercise and dieting. Do you remember Tom used to joke that I was wearing a tyre around my waist? Guess what? Only two months’ exercise and I have lost 10 kilograms. The “tyre” is gone! Sounds amazing, eh! I bet if you also plan a diet and exercise programme and stick to it, you can make it too. Dieting doesn’t mean you have to give up food like ice cream. The party isn’t over. Just watch how often you eat it. Exercise is the same. Make sure it’s on your timetable. Set regular goals that you can really live with. Then, as all the ads say, just do it!

Wanna have a try? It really can be fun and easy!
