Keystone Exams Keystone Exams are given to any student who is taking a Full Year

Algebra 1 Course. (Algebra 1 Part 1 does not take it)

Keystone Exam scores in 8th Grade count towards the High School AYP numbers.

Failure to pass the Algebra 1 Keystone Exam in 8th Grade will result in a remediation class requirement in next year’s schedule at NHS.

Given the fast pace of the Algebra 1 Course and the ramifications of the Keystone Exam, if you see your child is struggling, do not hesitate to contact me to discuss possible options.

7th Grade Placement Tests All 7th Graders will take 2 placement tests this year to help

determine which Algebra course they will be placed in for 8th grade. (Honors Algebra 1, Algebra 1, or Algebra 1 Part 1)

The IAAT (Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test) will be given toward the end of February and the Pre-Algebra Indicator will be given toward the end of April.

There is no way to really “study” for either test; students are encouraged to try their best on both tests so that their placement can be as accurate as possible.

Along with these two 100 point placement tests, there is also a 100 point 7th Grade Performance piece based in equal parts on the students first 3 Marking Period grades along with their teacher’s observation.
