2 WELCOME

JANUARY 3

Arts Alive works with local promoters to bring our communities an exciting and varied programme of live events, offering top quality performances in informal spaces. If you value these events, please spread the word and tell your friends. Our programme often features performers that you may not have heard of, but why not give it a whirl? Many shows have been scouted at Edinburgh and other festivals – we take pride in the quality of what is on offer.

A highlight for me this season is our innovative contemporary project, Field Notes, created in partnership with Craftspace and Birmingham Contemporary Music Group. BCMG last toured our area over 10 years ago and have aspired to come back ever since! Field Notes is an exciting collaboration between textile artist Matthew Harris and composer Howard Skempton, who will be on tour and happy to discuss their work.

We love hearing your post-show comments; it’s easy to send us your feedback and reviews via the website – just click on the lime green comment box.

Sian Kerry Co-director, Arts Alive e: [email protected]

Are you a tweeter? If so please mention us and follow us @artsaliveevents – help more people find out about Arts Alive events!

Lift sharing: Why not share an outing with friends? The ideal way to halve the travel cost, reduce carbon emissions and enjoy company; why not see if anyone wants to come along with you to an event?

Can you help us to reach the rural corners? Can you distribute a few brochures for us? With the high cost of postage and fuel we struggle to distribute to all the rural corners of our counties, so if you can spread a few in your area please email [email protected] and we will be in touch.

With postage costs rising we are keen to get as many Arts Alive and Flicks in the Sticks fans as possible signed up to receive our weekly bulletin – reminding you of what’s coming up in your area. It’s free, easy, saves us money and means you don’t miss out.

Dear audiences,Welcome to a new year, and a new programme of live shows from Arts Alive!

Sign up and receive regular weekly reminders about what’s coming up near you.

PMac productionsOld HerbaceousPottering amongst the seeds and cuttings at the back of his ramshackle greenhouse in the garden of a Gloucestershire manor house is Herbert Pinnegar. Now in his twilight years, he’s full of memories and tales of a bygone era. Sown with seeds of gardening wisdom, this charming one-man show is a love story – a humorous portrayal of a single-minded yet gentle man with a passion for plants. Think ‘Downtown Abbey, with gardening tips.’

These have been a great innovation for our rural audiences, giving people a chance to access performances from world class companies – the National Theatre, Royal Opera House, Royal Shakespeare Company, Globe Theatre, Bolshoi Ballet, The Royal Ballet and Glyndebourne. It’s not quite like being there, but it’s much better than not being there!

The atmosphere is infectious, the pre-show chats are insightful and you do feel like you are part of the audience. Why not give it a try? You get a great view for a fraction of the original theatre price and it’s so much cheaper than going to London!

• Ticket prices vary – the minimum is £8 (shows for young children are cheaper). However ALL events are subsidised and we do our best to keep prices affordable whilst not compromising on quality or range. As our prices are so reasonable, most venues do not offer concessionary rates for pensioners. Ticket prices are indicated thus: £8 (adult) /£5 (child) /£26 (family).
