gUiDEliNES FOR PREPARATiON AND SUBMiSSiON OF ABSTRACTS

The AACR Annual Meeting is thepremier event for presentingcutting-edge cancer research coveringthe spectrum of science from thebench to the clinic. The AnnualMeeting 2012 reinforced the AACR’slong-standing commitment ofhighlighting the best science-basedclinical research by featuring anunprecedented four clinical trialssessions. These sessions were verywell received, often attractingstanding-room-only crowds. Basedupon this success, in 2013 we willcontinue to provide many opportunitiesfor our attendees to feature theirclinical research in Clinical TrialsSymposia, poster sessions, and theClinical Trials in Progress postersession. This Symposium presentationformat, which is detailed below, provides the scientific context in whichthe clinical trials are designed andperformed.

Cutting-edge clinical trials selected fororal presentation will consist ofseparate talks: one featuring the trial

data and one explaining the sciencedriving the clinical trials. In addition toproviding a greater understanding ofthe science, this format providesincreased opportunities forpresentation. Presenters of selectedabstracts will be asked to describe thescience informing the development ofthe novel agent and/or diagnostic andthe clinical trial.

A specially appointed committee willreview and select abstracts focused onpreclinical research and Phase I, II, andIII clinical trials in treatment andprevention to be highlighted asproffered oral presentations. All clinicaltrials-related abstracts submittedwithin the Clinical Research (CL)category and any preclinicalsubcategory that has significant

translational implications will beconsidered for inclusion in this seriesof sessions focused on clinical trials.

Abstracts submitted for both theregular or the late-breaking deadlineswill be considered by the ProgramCommittee. Placeholder abstracts maybe submitted by the January 28late-breaking abstract deadline forclinical trials that only have preliminarydata at the time of submission withfinal results to be submitted by March1, 2013. The process for submitting aplaceholder is detailed on page 19.

Placeholder Abstracts for Clinical Trials

In an effort to ensure that the latestand most exciting new data in clinicaltrials is presented at the AnnualMeeting 2013, the AACR hasimplemented a special policy for thesubmission of late-breaking abstractsof clinical trials for which onlypreliminary data are available at thetime of the late-breaking abstractdeadline of January 28, 2013.

To be eligible for consideration, thefollowing guidelines must be strictlyfollowed:

• Abbreviated abstracts must besubmitted by the late-breakingabstract submission deadline ofJanuary 28, 2013, and must alsocomply with the rules specified fortheir submission.

• A placeholder abstract category(PL01: Phase I Clinical Trial Data:Placeholder; PL02: Phase II ClinicalTrial Data: Placeholder, or PL03:Phase III Clinical Trials Data:Placeholder) must be selected in theonline abstract submitter.

• Abstracts must include the followinginformation:

• Objectives of the study

• Methodology

• Preliminary data or an indicationof the type of results anticipated.(This is especially applicable toclinical trials that are about to be closed.)

• Completed abstracts including alldata—that is, Results andConclusions—must be submitted bythe final deadline of March 1, 2013.

The submission of abstracts inaccordance with these guidelinesdoes not guarantee acceptance bythe special subcommittee. Alllate-breaking and placeholderabstracts must be submitted online.Complete instructions for preparingand submitting these abstracts will beavailable in January 2013 atwww.aacr.org/AACR2013.

Clinical Trials in Progress PosterSession

Abstracts submitted to the ClinicalTrials in Progress (CL15) categoryshould summarize promising ongoingtrials that have not yet yielded finalresults. A designated area of theposter hall will be dedicated to thepresentation and discussion ofabstracts accepted to this category.

Press Coverage at AACR Annual Meetings
