Academic Intervention Services

AIS are defined as: “Additional instruction and/or support services that supplement the instruction provided in the general curriculum and assist students in meeting the New York State Learning Standards.”

(West Babylon Board of Education AIS Policy, June 2007)

Academic Intervention Services

“Academic Intervention Services are intended to assist students who are at risk of not achieving the State learning standards in English language arts, mathematics, and social studies and science, or who are at risk of not gaining the knowledge and skills needed to meet or exceed designated performance levels on State assessments.”

(West Babylon Board of Education AIS Policy, June 2007)

Parental Notification and Involvement

Parents/guardians play a vital role in the academic and emotional success of their children. We are committed to establishing a strong partnership with parents to ensure that all students achieve success.

Parents/guardians are notified, in writing, by the AIS providers and signed-off by the building principal if a child requires Academic Intervention Services. The notification also includes:

Title I Funds Title I funds are allocated to schools that are designated as “Title 1

Schools”

“A Title I school is a school that receives supplemental federal funding due to the high percentage of low-income students. Title I schools have a high percent of their students on free or reduced-price lunch. Title I funding is intended to help close the achievement gap between low and high performing schools and ensure that all children have the opportunity to obtain a high quality education and reach grade-level proficiency.” (NYS PIRC Facts)
