DEPARTMENT OF HINDI

A brief introduction about the Department and the Staff: This department was established in the year 1984. Hindi is taught as second language to the first and second year of the degree students. It is an optional subject. There is a single post for the subject. From the academic year 2016-17 CBCS system has been introduced and Hindi is an optional second language in Semesters I,II,III and IV.

WORKLOAD PARTICULARS As per the norms stipulated by Hindi Department of Osmania University, 5 periods for each course are being conducted per week for undergraduate classes. The total number of periods taken by the faculty are 20 per week.

TIME-TABLE

The total periods engaged by the staff of Hindi Department are 20 periods per week. A Departmental timetable which is same as individual timetable is submitted.

TEACHING METHODS Apart from Lecture method the other methods followed are Translation Method, Group Discussion, Brain Storming, Questionnaire, role play, power point presentations, student study projects, student seminars, quiz etc.

Academic Records The faculty of the department strictly adheres to the academic schedule as per the almanac of the Osmania University. Attendance registers of the students, teaching diary, Record of Assignments, Projects, Seminars, competitions, departmental activities and all the other records are strictly maintained in the department. The department prepares annual academic plans to have more systematic approach in imparting the subject knowledge.

Remedial Coaching

Remedial Coaching is given to the slow learners and also poor performers in the examination. A record is maintained for the same.

Assignments

Regular home assignments are given every year to all the students and a record is maintained for the same.

Departmental Library There is a departmental Library where books are regularly issued to the Hindi students and an issue register is maintained.

2014-15

1. Students did study projects on topics „Aapka Priya Sahityakaar‟ and „Naari

Shiksha‟.

2. An Awareness programme conducted on „Scholarship schemes for Minority

Students‟ along with Department on Economics.

3. Hindi Diwas was celebrated and on this occasion essay writing competition was

conducted on topic „Hindi Bhasha ka Mahatva‟

4. Student Seminar was organized on topic „Mitrata‟ for first year students and

„Vigyan vardaan ya abhishap‟ for second year students

5. Class room activities like vachan pratiyogita, Quiz, role play, group discussion etc.

were conducted.

2015-16

1. Students did study projects on topic „Berozgaari ki samasya‟

2. A documentary film was shown by the department named „Dil Ki Basti Mein‟ along

with Department on History and Physical Education.

3. Hindi Diwas was celebrated and on this occasion essay writing competition was

conducted on topics „Swatantrata aandolan mein Hindi ki Bhoomika‟ and „Hindi aur

angrezi mein samantayen aur asamaantayen‟ and Quiz competition on Hindi

Grammar.

Bharat Abhiyan‟

1. 4 Hindi students participated in essay writing, poster painting and got prizes in

district level competitons organized by DRC.

2. A student seminar was organized on topic „Paryavaran aur Hum‟

3. Student Study Projects on the topic „Nibandh Lekhan‟ were done by the students‟

4. Class room activities like vachan pratiyogita, role play, group discussion,

debate,dictation etc. were conducted.

5. Essay writing and speeches organized on the occasion of Hindi Diwas on 14th sep

2016 and prizes were distributed to winners.

6. Hindi students actively participated in singing dancing beauty contest and won

many prizes.

7. 4 hindi students participated in a skit competition in Hindi on topic „Drig-Abuse‟

conducted by DRC in SVS degree College, Hyderabad and 3 of the got prizes.

8. Hindi students presented a skit in Hindi in a programme relating to „Anti-Ragging‟

conducted by dept. of physical education in the college.

9. A student who wrote „Book Review‟ in Hindi in a competition held by Library

Dept.on the occasion of “National Library Week‟ in college got II prize.

Smt. Harbans kour is the only faculty of this department. The following is her brief profile.

Faculty Development Training Programmes:

1. Attended 3 day induction training programme conducted by commissionerate of collegiate education, Hyd. At DRC, Nizamabad from 28-11-2011 to 30-11-2011.

2. Attended Orientation course by UGC-ASC, University of Hyderabad from 29-06-2011 to 26-07-2011 and secured „A‟ grade.

3. Attended 5-day residential SAM workshop (Sensitisation /Awareness /Motivation workshop) for Capacity Building of Women Managers in Higher Education sponsored by UGC and organized by University College of Technology (A), Osmania University from 27-8-2012 to 31-08-2012.

4. Attended Refresher course in „Soft Skills and Personality Development‟ by UGC-ASC, Osmania University, Hyderabad from 3-6-2013 to 24-6-2013 and obtained „A‟ grade.

Highlights of Hindi Department

100% Pass Percentage : The Department achieved 100% pass percentage of II year in the annual exams 2015-16 and 2016-17. Also for I year in the year 2014-15 and 2015-16

Faculty & Head of the Department Smt. Harbans Kour is the recipient of Best Teacher Award from Govt. of Andhra Pradesh.

Hindi diwas is celebrated every year in the month of September. Students of Hindi are very active and participate in all the co curricular and

extra curricular activities in the college and intercollegiate level. They participate equally in cultural programmes and also games and sports and also won many prizes.

4 Hindi Students participated in a skit competition in Hindi on topic „Drug-Abuse‟ conducted by DRC in SVS degree College, Hyderabad and 3 of them got prizes.

Hindi students presented a skit in Hindi in a programme relating to „Anti-Ragging‟ conducted by dept. of physical education in the college.
