The past two years we had a number of people volunteer their time, and we couldn't have done it without them!! We have continued to receive such positive feedback each year about our volunteer staff! 1. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

5. REMINDER: CPR/AED Training

Classes are offered free of charge twice a month through the end of the school year. Classes are held at PAUL HARDING Jr in the Staff Development Room starting at 4:15 PM. Class size is limited and requires pre-registration, email or call Wendy Walker, Health Services Coordinator at extension 7309.

Certification is through the American Heart Association and lasts for two years. Any employee interested in, or needing certification renewal may also participate in this training.

6. REMINDER: TEAM EACS GEARING UP FOR FORT4FITNESS FALL FESTIVAL

EACS is gearing up for the Fort4Fitness Fall Festival! Last year EACS was a Charity Partner with Fort4Fitness and this year EACS has been selected again as a Charity Partner! That said, we need a team to participate in the Fall Festival. You can register NOW through May 2nd: ½ Marathon – $50 10K - $35 4 Mile - $25 After May 2nd: $60 $45 $30 After Aug. 3: $70 $50 $35

If you’d like to register or sponsor a participant please go to the Fort4Fitness website, click on Charity Partner, then click on the EACS logo. All proceeds will go towards the EACS Health and Wellness programs.

EL (English Learner) CORNER

Pre-teaching Essentials for ELs: *Decide upon a manageable number of key concepts & provide them before units, chapters, selections, & projects. *Use familiar context to introduce, post, & review vocab critical to talking & learning about central concepts. *Present secondary terms as they are introduced within text/activities. Link terms to photos, video, or movements. * Decide what language functions students will need before each lesson. (Ex: if making predictions, pre-teach basic sentence patterns & verbs used to express opinions.) *Use engaging pre-reading activities with texts at their level (use rewordify.com) and utilize all four language domains: speaking, reading, listening, and writing. *Assess prior knowledge in group discussions using objects/pictures/thinking maps as a visual trigger.

Francine's Friends Mobile Mammography Unit is returning to EACS.  This is a wonderful and convenient service offered to EACS and to our community by Parkview Hospital.  Parkview recommends women have an annual mammogram beginning at age 40. Women 35 and older, who are not experiencing any problems with their breasts, can get a screening mammogram on the coach.  All participants must have a family physician as the screening report is sent to the physician.   For participants that have insurance, their insurance company will be billed.  For those that have EACS Group Health Insurance, Mammograms will be considered as a wellness benefit, covered at 100%.  NO ONE will be turned away for inability to pay.  Francine’s Friends has funding available and a donation toward the cost of the mammogram is welcome.  2016 screening schedule:

January 15 (Friday) – Paul Harding Jr/EAU 

January 25 (Monday) – New Haven High School 

March 21 (Monday) – Leo Jr‐Sr High School 

April 18 (Monday) – Woodlan K‐12 Campus

Recognition Bulletin VII-31 3.24.16

1. LILLY SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

Amy Rowland, senior at New Haven High School High School and Makalah Krick, senior

at Heritage Jr. Sr. High recently received surprise visits and presented with the 2016 Lilly

Scholarship Award by Community Foundation representatives!

Amy will attend either the University of Saint Francis or IPFW to study Psychology.

Makalah is planning to attend Indiana University to major in Education!

The scholarship award will pay required fees, and a stipend of $900 per year for required

books and equipment for four consecutive years of undergraduate study leading to a

baccalaureate degree.
