Adults require tetanus boosters every ten years
30-50 tetanus cases occur each year in Britain, half of which occur in adults over 65 years of age. Recent surveys have found that 40-80% of adult patients are unprotected against tetanus. Revaccination increases the period of immunity, but boosters scheduled at irregular or long intervals increase the chance of non-compliance. Many patients do not remember their medical history or the dates of past injections while patients' records may be lost when changing doctors.
