2017-2018 INTERMEDIATE DANCE EXPECTATIONS

Auditions are May 30th, 3:00 p.m. in the WHS PAVILION

Sign up in P14 prior to the audition date with your partner.

* Student must turn in proof of eligibility and PARENT PERMISSION slip PRIOR to auditions *

Learn the routine in small groups from 3-4pm.

Closed judging starts at 4pm: Across the floor technique in groups of 10, then audition the routine 2 at a time.

Incoming freshman can sign up at the May 27th

workshop or upon arrival the day of the audition.

Please wear solid colors, secure your hair back, and bring water & shoes.

Approximate level of expertise:

Double pirouette, proficient leaps, axel turn, chaînés jeté, good flexibility & choreography experience

Intermediate dance is 3rd

period – P.E. credit.

Student must be eligible 3rd

quarter of this year in order to audition. (2.0 GPA and no more than 1 U)

MANDATORY ATTENDANCE REQUIRED AT THE FOLLOWING:

All performances and class activities

After school/ lunch rehearsals, auditions and weekly WHS technique classes (currently Wed. 6:30-8pm)

Tech rehearsals= 3-hour practices after school with the entire cast. 3-6 or 6-9pm

(3 per show- used to take pictures, videotape, run the show in order with costumes, etc.)

*10 ballet classes during the summer vacation (Laurdisen’s Ballet Studio or Fusion)

*Private camp on campus during summer vacation (Dates to be announced- Late August)

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:

1 professional dance production per year with written report

Outside technique classes during the year

PERFORMANCE POSSIBILITIES:

Armstrong Theatre: January & May 2018 District Concert: February 2018

Basketball halftime 8th

grade assembly Showcase: Oct 2017 & June 2018

Haunted House event (Oct) Gorilla lunch promotions

Intermediate dance members are guaranteed dancers in every show, as long as the dancer is eligible. The

number of dances intermediate will be allowed to perform will be determined during class auditions. All

students are encouraged to choreograph throughout the year.

If a new member is ineligible 4th

quarter 2017 they will be removed from the class. If a dancer falls ineligible

during the school year they will be removed from any performances that quarter. If they fall ineligible 2

quarters in a row they will be removed from the class.

Participation in ALL fundraising activities is mandatory including but not limited to the brochure sale,

entertainment books, haunted house, mixed bags, gold cards, spa cards, candy, spring fling, master classes &

workshops.

APPROXIMATE COSTS:

*Ballet Classes $125-$190 Contract required

*Private Camp $45-$80 (depending on # of members) Contract required

Team apparel ~$85 (sweatshirt, tank top, 2 jerseys, show shirt) optional bag $25

Costumes $35 per dance maximum

Outside Technique classes Varies on your studio of choice (optional)

Professional show Varies on your show of choice (optional)

Costs do not include your basic dance apparel such as tights, shoes, half-soles, black shorts, black leotard (clear

strap convertible recommended), nude leotard, ballet tights, black leggings, appropriate undergarments, briefs &

makeup/hair accessories.

permission slip below so I know that you are aware of the expense/commitment before auditions occur.

I have read the attached 2017-2018 Intermediate Dance Expectations Flyer for the West High School

Intermediate Dance class and I understand the commitment involved in making the team. I also understand the

costs involved with being on the team. In addition, I understand there is an obligation for attendance at summer

ballet classes & a private dance camp and that if my student makes the team they will be required to sign

additional contracts to complete these requirements. Finally, I understand that if my student falls ineligible 4th

quarter of this school year (less than a 2.0 GPA and/or more than one U in citizenship) they will be removed

from the team.

Knowing all of these things, I give permission for my student to audition for the West High Intermediate Dance
