Advanced Manufacturing Summit:

Growth Strategies in a Global Economy

Keynote Speaker

The Honorable dennis Yablonsky, Secretary of Community and Economic development, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Community and Economic Development, Dennis Yablonsky, was unanimously confirmed by the Pennsylvania Senate on March 11th, 2003. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Secretary Yablonsky has 29 years of management and leadership experience. He was founding CEO of the Pittsburgh Digital Greenhouse, a revolutionary model for focused technology economic development. When the same successful business model was applied to developing the life sciences industry in the Commonwealth, Mr. Yablonsky was called upon to lead the newly-formed Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse.

Following his graduation from the University of Cincinnati, Mr. Yablonsky quickly launched his business career at Cincom Systems, an independent software company based in Ohio. In the twelve years that followed, he worked through the company ranks, moving from sales representative to Director of Worldwide Sales and Service, from Vice President of Sales and Marketing to President and Chief Operating Officer. During his tenure, Cincom Systems grew from a small domestic software company into a $125 million global IT organization.

In 1987, following his success at the helm of Cincom Systems, Mr. Yablonsky took the reigns as CEO of Carnegie Group, Inc., a small, unprofitable CMU spin-off company in Pittsburgh. By 1999, he had not only turned it into a $32 million publicly traded software solutions company; he had successfully completed its sale and integration into Logica North America.

The Secretary is an accomplished and experienced veteran of managing and leading dynamic business growth – an ability he has put to good use on behalf of the Commonwealth. Secretary Yablonsky leads the Rendell Administration’s proactive efforts to revitalize Pennsylvania’s economy by investing in growth. He works to achieve a balance between community development and economic development, responds effectively to the needs of our large urban centers and our small to medium-sized cities and boroughs, and fully develops the potential of Pennsylvania’s many diverse industry sectors.

Secretary Yablonsky played a lead role in the formation and implementation of the Governor’s Economic Stimulus Package, which has invested $1.8 billion into Pennsylvania’s infrastructure, core communities and job producing businesses over the past two years.

The Secretary also chairs the boards of the Commonwealth Financing Authority, Ben Franklin Technology Development Authority, Tobacco Settlement Investment Fund, Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority, Pennsylvania Economic Development Financing Authority, The Pennsylvania Minority Business Development Authority, Travel and Tourism Partnership and the Governor’s Economic Development Cabinet. These organizations play key roles in driving and supporting economic and community development in the Commonwealth.
