In certain sections of this manual, there are operations that could cause bodily injury. Protective steps must be taken to insure the safety of the person or persons performing the described work herein. This manual serves as a recommended procedure and Advanced Motorsport Solutions, LLC will not be held liable or accept any responsibility for any damages, personal or property losses from the use of this installation manual or use of this product. Best Motoring The Staff @ AMS Safety Warning and Caution Safety and Caution are required for the installation when dealing with the following: Safety glasses should always be worn whenever there are operations involving matter that could fly away by spring tension or by cutting.

• Circlip (Under spring tension and could fly into an open eye) • The one-shot hose clamps. (When cut could also fly into an open eye) • Razor Blade (self explanatory sharp!)

To the best of our knowledge, we have listed above the safety concerns regarding the installation. However the safety concerns are not only limited to the above list.


Start by ensuring that the engine is switched off and the hand brake is set. Step 1: Removal of console cover plate and shift knob. To remove the cover plate, open the ashtray and pull up on the front of the cover. Do the same for the rear of the cover by lifting from within the shift boot at the rear side.

To remove the shift knob you must cut the clamp holding the shift knob we have included a new one in the kit.

(! Safety glasses are required while cutting the hose clamp!)


Once you have removed the clamp, pull up on the shift knob to remove it.

Step 2: Removal of sound insulation foam and top cover Remove foam pieces front and rear.

Remove round disc from shifter.


Pull up Tunnel Insulation at front and cut with razor blade at the 12 o’clock position.


Loosen and remove (2) 10mm nuts securing the top cover of the shifter box.

Step 3: Removal of the shifter assembly complete with carrier. First remove the (2) 6mm Allen bolts for the shifter adjustment rods.


Next loosen and remove the (4) Torx T-25 Screws securing the shifter rails.

Once you have removed the screws, lift the complete assembly from the vehicle and take it to a flat work surface.


Step 4: Remove Standard shift lever and Install AMS shift lever (! Safety glasses are required while removing or installing the Circlip!) Remove the Circlip that holds the shift lever ball socket to the carrier. Also, remove the washer as well.

Remove the 10mm nut and bolt securing the shifter foot.


Once removed pull the shift lever out of the carrier assembly.

Remove the ball socket by sliding it off of the shift lever. The ball socket will be reused for the AMS shift lever.


Step 5: Assembly of the AMS Short Shifter Grease the ball socket if necessary with the supplied grease and snap it onto the new AMS shift lever from the bottom.

Insert the washer removed in the previous step above into the shift carrier or onto the shifter assembly below the ball socket. Next pass the AMS shifter with ball socket into the shift carrier and re-install the Circlip.


Step 6: Selection of the proper hole for throw reduction and assembling the lower foot. When assembling the foot to the shifter body you have three choices of base reduction as listed below. You must choose the A, B or C hole. Also keep in mind that the height of the shift knob also changes the reduction as well. Note: The lower the shift knob the shorter the throw becomes. Hole A=10 to 20% Hole B=20 to 30% Hole C=25 to 35% Shifter with the A and C holes Shifter with the B hole

Select the desired base reduction hole. Assemble shifter foot and secure bolt and nut. Step 7: Assembling the shift knob shaft and positioning of dowel pin. When using the factory style shift knob make sure that the flat on the shift knob shaft is oriented towards the left hand side of the vehicle (as if you were sitting in the vehicle). The shift knob shaft must be oriented as shown in the photos below. The dowel pin must be re-positioned if the A or the C hole is to be used. The dowel pin is pre-installed at the factory for use with the B hole. If one wishes to use the A or the C hole or a screw on type of shift knob, the dowel pin must be pressed out and installed in the appropriate hole. See examples below. Step 8: Install completed unit back into the vehicle.

Start by reinstalling the (2) two allen bolts. The clamp plate removed in Step 3 must be left loose until adjustments have been carried out see text below. Finish by installing the (4) four Torx screws removed in Step 3 Adjust the shifter settings by centering the shifter in the carrier and holding steady until securing the (2) two 6mm allen bolts.

Test shifter operation before closing up the shifter box. Make sure all forward gears engage including reverse. The best way to test is with the clutch pedal depressed and while the engine is running. Note: You can check it with the engine off, but if the clutch is not depressed, shifting may be difficult as usual while not depressing the clutch.


If all is well you should have a smile on your face about now because we are almost finished and ready to wrap it up.


Step 9: Reinstall the top cover of the shifter box Reinstall and secure the (2) 10mm nuts.

Loosen Height adjustment nut and remove the shifter rod and set aside.

Reinstall shifter rod and locknut. Also, at this time, set height to desired point and secure locking nut. Warning: do not over tighten the nut or you will damage the shifter. This is not covered under the warranty. The nut uses a taper lock and does not need to be really tight. Approx 15Lbs. Maximum.

Reinstall rear and front foam pieces.


Step 10: Reinstall Shift knob and top cover Locate new one-shot clamp and install onto shift knob.

Install knob with top cover onto the shift rod and secure clamp by squeezing, but not too much, as this will cut the clamp.

Congratulations the installation is now completed. Test drive Safely
