Awarm welcome to all of you who havejoined us this evening for our firstAffinity Charity Ball in aid of

Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and inmemory of ‘Pat McGirl’.

I am hoping this evening is a huge success andyou will be fighting for tickets to join us to doit all again next year.

For our first Charity Ball I wanted it to besomething close to my own heart, so there wasno competition when I made the decision tohold it in memory of Pat - he was to manypeople who knew him an inspiration and apure legend and to me he was also a dearfriend, who I still miss immensely.

Tonight is about having fun, (something Pathad a gold medal in!) and raising muchneeded funds for Leukaemia & LymphomaResearch.

We all know someone who is touched bycancer in one form or another and the soonerresearchers find cures for this life threateningdisease the better, so if the monies raisedtonight can help towards this, even just a littlebit, then we should all feel very proud ofourselves.

I have had some tremendous support whilstputting this evening together and for that I amextremely grateful and all I can say is...................... Thank you.

Finally, introductory words for this eventwould be incomplete without my sinceregratitude and thanks to all those generouspeople who have donated the superb itemsincluded in tonight’s Auction and Raffle.

I hope you have a wonderful evening, andremember “Life’s not a rehearsal, it’s forliving!”

Nights like tonight are absolutely vital to Leukaemia & Lymphoma

Research. We receive no government funding so we’re entirely funded

by the generosity of people like you. We need to raise £25million this

year to continue to be able to invest in life‐saving research and this is

something that is only made possible by people like you.

By supporting Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research you are giving people

diagnosed with a blood cancer a better chance of survival. It’s because of this

support that we are able to invest in world class research, right across the

UK.

We are the only UK charity solely dedicated to research into blood cancers,

including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

Our life‐saving research is focused on finding causes, improving diagnosis

and treatments, and running groundbreaking clinical trials for all blood

cancer patients.

In 1960, when we were established, a child diagnosed with the most

common form of leukaemia had almost no chance of surviving. Recently, we

had the news that 90% of children with the very same disease now survive.

There is still more important work that needs to be done to ensure the same

improvements for teenagers and adults in the future, but we know that with

your support we will one day be able to cure all blood cancers.
