ANIMATION CLUB

The Animation Club was established to give students an opportunity to learn and

practice some of the computer animation programs we have in the Digital Lab.

Students who are currently in an Animation class or have taken Animation classes

are welcome along with any serious animators who are thinking of going to Art

school but are not in a class. Students may use the club to expand their skillset and

build a portfolio which could be used for college applications. Members are

encouraged to share ideas and their productions or collaborate with the rest of the

club. Animation showcases occur each Marking Period and allow students to exhibit

their work.

BARCELONA EXCHANGE PROGRAM

Director: Ms. Herrera

Students travel to Barcelona, Spain & stay with pen pals from our Sister School, El

Colegio Sagrada Familia. Later, that same pen pal will come & stay with you & your

family in Piscataway. Participants experience complete Spanish language & culture

immersion. Not only do they visit museums & landmarks, but they also get to see

daily life of a high school student in Spain through their school, friends & family. For

the 2nd half of the program, participants & their families are able to show their pen

pal American culture & our way of life here in Piscataway. Open to students in 10th

grade & up and for students at least in Spanish 3 or higher, or who have equivalent

Spanish abilities.

BIOLOGY II TEAM

This is a club for students currently taking AP Biology. In Biology League II, students

learn new concepts and practice taking multiple choice tests. Beginning in January,

students take a test that can earn them or the school recognition on the state level.

BLACK CULTURE SOCIETY

In this society, the members will engage in discourse, debates, and much more

concerning the African Diaspora and African Americans. We will try our very best to

inform all members about very important topics in black culture. We will also actively

engage students in career opportunities, field trips, and lectures from successful black

men and women in different fields (careers). We plan to support the members in their

future careers, academics, and give them an outlet (safe place) to discuss topics that

concern them individually/personally.

BOOK CLUB

The PHS Book Club is a student-run club, open to anyone who likes to read. Club

members will not read the same book, but a book from the same genre every month.

The genre will be different from month to month, and hopefully, this will encourage

members to read outside of their favorite areas. Various authors and book genres will

be discussed. If you love reading and are interested in sharing what you’ve read, then

this club is for you! Club meets every other Monday.

CHEMISTRY I TEAM

Chemistry I is one of the teams in the New Jersey Science League. Chemistry I is

offered to students who are in a first year high school chemistry class. The team

meets on Thursdays after school to learn various chemistry topics ranging from the

atom to thermo chemistry. The New Jersey Science League then tests each student

once a month starting in January and ending in April. Based on the results of these

tests, the students and the team get ranking compared to other high schools

throughout the state.

CHESS CLUB

CHIEFS DANCE TEAM

The Chiefs Dance Team is an ensemble of dedicated dancers whose mission is to

promote school spirit, while entertaining an audience. Dancers on CDT train in all

styles of dance, with an emphasis on jazz, hip hop and majorette. CDT performs at all

home varsity football games, varsity basketball games and many other district events

throughout the year. All dancers must audition for the team in the spring. Contact

CHIEFTAIN

The Chieftain (www.phschieftain.com) is the high school's newspaper website that is

produced in conjunction with the Journalism classes. Students involved in producing

the Chieftain take on every aspect of a journalist, including gathering information

through interviewing, writing news stories, features, editorials, podcasts,

entertainment articles, and sports stories. Over time, students may work their way

up to become section editors. Members of the Chieftain also create the layout and

appearance of the website, so artists, photographers, and webmasters are also

encouraged to get involved to help produce the website.

CHIEFS FOR CHRIST

Chiefs for Christ is a club that meets for the purpose of fellowship. We represent a

part of the Christian population of Piscataway High but are not the only Christians

at the high school. We promote and study the Word of God, pray, worship and discuss

religious and moral issues in order to strengthen our faith. We also have guest

speakers come in to lead the group on certain current topics. In the past, we have

worked with the National Honor Society to prepare Easter Baskets for Elijah’s

Promise in New Brunswick. We have an annual opening party to start the new school

year where all students are invited to meet with members.

CHINESE CULTURE CLUB

Computer Science Club aims to bring Computer Science Education to every student

in the high school. We offer opportunities for novice programmers, gamers, website

makers and computer science enthusiasts to get involved, to discuss new ideas, to

explore advances in technology and to learn new languages. In addition, we prepare

and participate in various computer science competitions which are held throughout

the year.

DISTRIBUTIVE EDUCATION CLUB OF AMERICA (DECA)

DECA’s Comprehensive Learning Program supports the marketing, business

management, finance, and hospitality and tourism career clusters. DECA’s

programming, including competitive events, educational conferences, video

challenges, educational publications, school-based enterprises, educator

professional learning and more, support the development of necessary knowledge

and skills for careers in these four career clusters.

DECA’s Comprehensive Learning Program directly supports the Career Clusters®

initiative, National Curriculum Standards, 21st Century Skills, Common Core

State Standards, Project-based Learning and Personal Financial Literacy

initiatives.

The Drama Club of PHS is dedicated to providing a quality theater experience for all

of its members. In addition to producing fine actors, the Drama Club also helps to

give students experience in Stage Craft, Technical Support and House Management.

Major events include the Fall Play, Winter Musical, and the Spring Director’s

Showcase. By working on our productions, students will also have the opportunity to

be inducted into the International Thespian Society.

ENGINEERING ACADEMY CLUB

The Engineering Academy Club of the Piscataway High School provides students

with the opportunity to explore and increase their knowledge and understanding of

the field of Engineering. Math, Science, and Technology are all components within

the Engineering discipline. Members receive the opportunity throughout the school

year to participate in meeting with guest speakers, and field trips.

FBLA

friendships.

FRENCH CLUB

The main purpose of the French Club is to promote enthusiasm among students for

the French language and culture and to provide students with a friendly but serious

way to approach a new language.

GENEN (SMAP)

The GenEn Club is designed to introduce high school students to modern molecular

genetics by having them conduct genuine research projects. It involves an intensive

multi-week program at the Waksman Institute over the summer (for the WSSP

Student Scholar only) and then continues throughout the school year with regular

meetings to discuss research progress and culminates with a poster presentation of

findings at Rutgers University in Piscataway. The current project focuses on the

genomic sequence analysis of Duckweed Landoltia punctata and how its genes

compare with other species. Students first isolate and then sequence the organism’s

genes and this information is deposited in the National Center for Biotechnology

Information (NCBI) for use by scientists throughout the world. Using the gene

sequence information, students compare the evolutionary relationship between L.

punctata and other Eukaryotes.

GIRL UP CLUB

Girl Up, a United Nations student organization, is dedicated to working towards

creating a better future for girls growing up in developing nations. Club members

raise awareness about issues concerning these young women through fundraising

events. The club goal is to help create a world where no matter who "she" is or

where "she" lives, every girl has a chance to safety, a childhood, an education, a

family, and more.

GSA – GENDERS & SEXUALITIES ALLIANCE

The Genders & Sexualities Alliance (GSA) is a student-run club which provides a

safe place for students to meet, support each other, talk about issues related to

sexual orientation and gender identity and expression, and work to end homophobia

and transphobia. The Gender & Sexualities Alliance Club is open to ALL students

regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. The GSA is a forum for students

to come together and discuss issues that affect the school community and participate

in activities that address social justice issues and promote equality in our school.

Piscataway’s GSA organizes and participates in various campaigns such as Ally

Week, National Day of Silence and the Week of Respect. This club is open to all

students.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS CLUB

The Health and Wellness Club is supported by the FUEL Up To Play 60 and the NFL.

It's to promote healthier lives for students, and healthy choices in nutrition, and

making changes in our wellness center. This is an in-school nutrition and physical

activity program to help encourage students to lead a healthier lives.

HOSA CLUB

Advisor: Dr. Murphy

HOSA is an international student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of

Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of ACTE. HOSA's

twofold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to

enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA's goal is to encourage

all health science instructors and students to join and be actively involved in the HSE-

HOSA Partnership. HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development,

motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary, postsecondary, adult, and

collegiate students enrolled in health science education and biomedical science

programs or have interests in pursuing careers in health professions. HOSA is 100%

health care!

ICCA

The International Club of Cultural Arts, better known as the “ICCA” Club was

created over 30 years ago with the purpose to promote unity and awareness of

diversity within our school and community. The ICCA is one of the largest clubs at

PHS (90 members). The club allows our students to take pride on who they are and

gives them the opportunity to participate in different activities that not only promote

their cultures and backgrounds, but also teach them about other cultures in

Piscataway High School.

ITALIAN CLUB

The Italian Club seeks to provide all interested students the opportunity to explore

the Italian language by examining its culture, customs, and celebrations. Students

are exposed to native speakers, by connecting to Italian communities, both here and

in Italy. Through these authentic experiences, students gain a better understanding

of the true Italian culture, as well as develop a lifelong appreciation for everything

Italian.

JUNIOR STATE OF AMERICA

Junior State of America was established to give students an opportunity to prepare

for life-long involvement and responsible leadership in a democratic society. Members

of the club will engage in discussion and debate about important current events and

topics of importance in today’s society. The club will also attend a convention where

students from throughout New Jersey will meet to share diverse opinion and

perspectives and engage in debates issues.

Community Service-Leadership

Key Club: Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides its

members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop

leadership. The members of Piscataway HS Key Club provide service through a

variety of service projects: we provide volunteers for events throughout the district

create and implement service projects and charitable fundraising of our own. PHS

Key Club also develops leadership through student officer led meetings and agenda

development. Key Club members attend local, state and international events to

develop leadership skills and serve the children of the world. Key Club is part of the

Kiwanis International family, Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers

dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.

The Piscataway High School Math League is open to students in grades 9 through 12.

Participation in Math League broadens a student’s critical reasoning skills by solving

challenging math problems. It extends a student’s knowledge of math beyond the

traditional high school curriculum by exposing the student to concepts such as

different number bases and modular math. It offers students the opportunity to

demonstrate their math skills in a competitive environment. It also provides

opportunities to communicate mathematically with students from other high schools

in Central Jersey. The PHS Math team has finished in the first place category for 17

consecutive years in the American Scholastic Math League.

MED CLUB

Adviser: Elana Youssef

Med Club was established to give students an opportunity to learn about the various

careers in the healthcare field. We have created a hub for students to engage and

grow in their desired career fields. During the year we hope to invite multiple guest

lecturers who will discuss their field of study. We will also take some time to review

the application process for various medical programs. Students will fundraise for a

charity and attend trips to the local Nursing homes and hospitals.

MOCK TRIAL TEAM

The Mock Trial team competes in the county Mock Trial competitions, where students

simulate a real trial, either civil or criminal (alternating between the two each year).

Over the course of 4 months, students try-out for the role of either lawyer or witness,

learn courtroom procedure, and develop strategies for how to argue the case from both

sides. Our team then competes with teams from other schools at the Middlesex

County Courthouse in New Brunswick, NJ at the end of January (the dates for the

competition are determined by NJ State Bar Association). If successful, the Mock

Trial team will then compete at the Regional level in February, followed by the state

level in March. This is a great team for you if you are a strong public speaker, great

at developing logical arguments, enjoy acting, and/or are interested in a future in the

legal profession! A practice schedule will be provided to all team members.

MUSLIM STUDENT ASSOCIATION

Muslim Students Association (MSA) provides students with the opportunity to come

together in a supportive Muslim environment and to educate those about Islam and

Islamic values. All students and staff members (regardless of religious faith) are

welcome to MSA meetings, activities and events.

NATIONAL ENGLISH HONOR SOCIETY

The National English Honor Society (NEHS), founded and sponsored by Sigma Tau

Delta, is the only international organization exclusively for secondary students and

faculty who, in the field of English, merit special note for past and current

accomplishments. The NEHS motto, "gelast sceal mid are," is Old English for: "duty

goes with honor." The motto represents one of the earliest forms of our language—it

affirms and celebrates an obligation to use one's gifts in service to others. Service to

peers, school, and community is part and parcel of the NEHS mission—and, indeed,

in the grammatical structure of the Old English phrase, "duty" actually precedes

"honor."

PHS's chapter motto is "Sapere aude" meaning "Dare to know." Our chapter

embraces the message of the NEHS national motto of service, while also

emphasizing its members continue to explore and celebrate arts and letters.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

National Honor Society is more than just being on the Honor Roll. The PHS chapter

of the National Honor Society establishes rules for membership that are based upon

a student's outstanding performance in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership,

and character. Students meeting the academic minimum are invited to apply in the

spring of their Junior year. The criteria for selection form the foundation upon which

the organization and its activities are built. NHS members maintain membership by

providing tutoring and community service to the High School and Piscataway

community.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY FOR DANCE ARTS

The National Honor Society for Dance arts (NHSDA) is a program of the National

Dance Education Organization (NDEO), a non-profit organization dedicated to

promoting standards of excellence in dance education. The mission of the NHSDA is

to promote and honor outstanding dance achievement in middle and high school level

students (11 – 18 years of age). Furthermore, NHSDA seeks to encourage well-

rounded dance artists to become leaders in their communities after high school

graduation. The PHS chapter of NHSDA rehearses and performs throughout the

year, and holds an induction of new members in the spring.

NOTERIETY

Advisor: Megan Suozzo

Noteriety is a student-run auditioned a cappella group of strong, independent

musical singers. This group performs fun arrangements of pop music, performs at

school events and competes in the International Competition of High School A

Cappella.

P3 (PISCATAWAY POETS/PERFORMERS)

This club provides an open, encouraging, and non-judgmental forum for creative,

original expression. Club members create and practice poetry and spoken word, and

organize performances for the school and community. All students are welcome to

join this close-knit family of aspiring artists.

PEGS

Advisor: Laura Leibowitz

Piscataway Exceptional Gathering of Students (PEGS). PEGS is a partner program

for students with special needs and their typical peers. The group meets throughout

the school year for fun and social events to promote friendship, acceptance and

understanding.

PHS ETHICAL DEBATE TEAM

The PHS Ethical Debate Team is open to all students in all grade levels. Over the

course of 3.5 months, the team prepares to debate a series of burning ethical issues

relating to technology, science and society at the High School Ethics Bowl in late Fall

and, if successful, the National High School Ethics Bowl in North Carolina in the

Spring. Students will build comradery and have a lot of fun while working on

presentation, listening, speaking and research skills.

PHS GUITAR CLUB

PHS PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB

It doesn’t matter if you are taking pictures with a DSLR or a cell phone - the PHS

photo club is a place for students to share their love for photography. Students take

part in photo challenges, discuss their work, learn new techniques, and practice what

PHS UNICEF CLUB

The PHS UNICEF Club is a national youth-led program that advocates for vulnerable

children around the world. We dedicate our time towards advocating, building

communities, fundraising, and speaking out for UNICEF’s child survival work. Our

club offers a variety of volunteering opportunities, which allows members to make a

positive impact on a larger scale. We support UNICEF’s work and gain experience

along the way through multiple community service projects. As a member of the

UNICEF Club, students will be given the responsibility to accomplish the mission of

this club, which is to empower American youth with the resources and skills to be

effective global citizens. This club grants students unique opportunities that allow for

personal growth and help make the world a better place.

PISCATAWAY BEATIFICATION CLUB

This club has the goal of making Piscataway High School a more beautiful place. The

club meets once every seven day cycle. We do things like clean up trash around

campus, plant flowers, design and paint hallway murals, and advocate for

improvements to bathrooms. We also want to improve school atmosphere by

encouraging positive peer-to-peer interactions. This is a great club for you if you are

interested in making PHS a better, more beautiful place.

Piscataway Gives Back is an opportunity for people to come together and give back to

those who need it most. These include promotion the creation and coordination of

events and directing funds towards causes we care about, with events ranging from

small bake sales to bigger community-wide fundraisers. The inspiration for this club

is the Sean Hanna Foundations for Pediatric Cancer located here in Piscataway,

directed toward a strong young boy who left behind a legacy we intend to honor. PGB

stands as a safe space for new freshman, which is something that differentiates us

from others. We understand little guidance and support to the new class and we

sincerely want to make a change. Everyone, regardless of their experiences or grade

level will be able to contribute to the fullest and get as involve as they would like,

something that is difficult to find elsewhere.

PISCATAWAY MODEL U.N.

Model UN offers students the opportunity to compete internationally, debating

issues that directly relate to the world today. The club will work on these issues in

researching countries and their policies towards today's issues. We will also

participate in competitions representing assigned countries, writing proposals, and

trying to get these proposals passed through the Mock United Nations.

Did you know that as far back as the 17th century, graduating students exchanged

small locks of hair and other items and taped them into a keepsake book with their

classmates’ letters and signatures to remember their friends? Did you also know that

in 1806, Yale University had the first formal yearbook? If you enjoy creating lasting

memories, then you are the perfect candidate for working on the Piscatorama, the

Piscataway High School yearbook, and keeping up with this longstanding tradition.

When you join the yearbook staff, you are part of a team of students and teachers

who take photographs, design pages, and organize the important layouts that make

up the lasting memories that are published in the yearbook every year. No experience

is required. All you need is a willingness to be creative.

THE PULSE 90.3 FM (aka Radio Club)

Advisor: Mr. Nowak

Meets Once a Month (General Meeting) / the Day of Your Show

The Pulse is an over-the-air, live radio station and the perfect opportunity for

students to experience radio broadcasting. The club provides student broadcasters

the chance to learn the technical side of broadcasting while practicing audio

production techniques. Student broadcasters host a live radio show and build a

brand! Members of the station will also learn basic audio editing and create content

for the radio station. The station will branch into freeform podcasting in addition to

live on-air broadcasting. Lastly, the station performs a public service to keep the

community of Piscataway well-informed of upcoming events and news in the area.

PWAY 50 STRONG

A peer to peer group based mentoring program which matches underclassmen with

influential upperclassmen. The mission of the program is to improve academic and

life outcomes for student members at PHS. Programming goals are focused on

providing mentees and mentors with resources that assist with college and career

planning, academic support, and building social and emotional wellness.

SCIENCE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

The Science National Honor Society recognizes high scientific achievement and gives

back to the community in a quest to further scientific thought among students at

Piscataway High School and in Piscataway Township Schools. We intend to provide

scientific lectures from both past and present students of Piscataway High School.

We also provide outreach to the community through an annual science fair and a

science tutoring service available to high school students. In addition, our chapter

will organize events in the elementary and middle schools in our district. Membership

is solely open to exceptional junior and senior students, and is application based.

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD

Science Olympiad is a club in which students can explore topics of their interest in

science beyond the classroom, eventually competing in a regional competition in

which students apply their knowledge in various events.

SPANISH CLUB

The Spanish Club provides students with the opportunity to explore the Spanish

language and culture in a diverse and casual environment. Throughout the year we’ll

experience different products and practices of Hispanic Culture such as movies,

music, dance, art, food and games. We also serve as the welcoming committee to the

visiting students of the Barcelona Exchange Program by planning different activities

and hosting an orientation breakfast and school tour. Students do not need to be

enrolled in Spanish class to participate in this club.

STEM CLUB

The STEM Club of Piscataway High School aims to spread knowledge about science,

technology, engineering, and math, as well as enhance the student body’s

understanding of the field. Members receive many opportunities throughout the

school year including the chance to participate in competitions, guest speaker events,

team challenges, and other activities. Through STEM Club, students are able to learn

more about STEM and open a door filled with knowledge and opportunities.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION (SGA)

Advisor: Sean Horan

Meetings: 1st and 3rd Fridays and more as called by officers

The Student Government Association (SGA) is open to all active students of PHS

and works to increase student participation in school events, increase the sense of

community within Piscataway High School, promote civic responsibility and

leadership skills through community service projects. Throughout the year the SGA

plans and organizes various activities such as the pep rally, School Spirit Week and

the Homecoming Dance. SGA members also serve as ambassadors to the Board of

Education and community, helping to communicate student achievements

throughout the community.

The grade-level Class Councils are open to all active PHS students. The Class

Councils work to raise funds for class activities and celebrations including, but not

limited to, Project Graduation and Prom. Students will also have opportunities to

take on leadership roles by planning fundraisers, charity events, and fun programs

for their class to participate in. Class Councils also work in conjunction with the

larger school-wide Student Government Association. If you are interested in getting

TCG CLUB (Trading Card Game Club)

Advisor: Mr. Michaels

TCG club is a home for playing various card games with others. We offer an

environment that is both inviting and competitive to players of any skill level. If you

enjoy trading card games or are interested in trying them, feel free to check us out.

VIDEO GAMING FOR CHARITY

Advisors: Mr. Soin

Meets: Every Monday

The Video Gaming for Charity is for anyone who enjoys playing video games and

would like to participate in tournaments to win prizes while also donating to charity.

In the club, members will pay to participate in weekly tournaments that will raise

money to go to a specific charity. Games and charities will also be changed regularly.

Students do not have to pay in order to be members and can earn volunteer hours by

helping with the tournament set-up or other activities.

WORLD LANGUAGE HONOR SOCIETY

The mission of World Language Honor Society is to recognize the extraordinary

achievement of students who study French, Italian, and Spanish. The WLHS

promotes the importance of acquiring a second language through cultural

celebrations and community service. Students must be in 10th grade and taking a

level 3 language course or higher. In order to join, students must complete an

application with specific grade, dues and service requirements in order to be
