Whickham School and Sports College is proud of itsmany achievements; from the excellent GCSE and ALevel results last year, to our ongoing, healthyrelationship with the local community, we are pleasedthat the school is continuously developing.

One key area where we can progress as a school is indeveloping and promoting the access, quality and participation of our after-school and extended learning activities.

I am privileged to be coordinating and collaborating with staff in this area; Ilook forward to developing the After-School Learning network and making iteven more enjoyable, helpful and invigorating.

What After-School Learningdoes Whickham School provide

at the moment?Currently, we provide an array of opportunities for our pupilsto expand their learning and enjoy extra-curricular activitiesand after-school clubs.

Some highlights include:

� Sports and P.E; the department offers a great choice ofpractice sessions for a number of sports.

� The Drama Club attracts a large number of students whoare keen to learn skills in performing and managingproductions.

� The Library provides pre-and-after-school sessions thathelps pupils successfully complete homework assignmentsin a safe and comfortable environment.

� The Art Club is great for offering students the ability toexpand their creativity in community projects.

� Music Club provides students with opportunities tofurther expand their musical talent and ability to workwith others in songwriting and band-play.

Using a combination ofhelpful and knowledgeable staff with

the kind assistance of communityvolunteers and contributors, we aim to

offer after-school learning that isconsistently high in quality.

We will aim to discover new andinnovative ways to provide better

communication to pupils and parents incase of changes to certain after-school

activities.

Quality & Communication

Whickham School now has staffavailable to support After-School

Learning to 5pm; we aim to use thistime effectively by offering supported

learning in our library, our well-equipped ICT suites and via our new

Virtual Learning Environment, as wellas promoting clubs and activities

which provide enrichment for students.

Choice &Access

Engagement &Achievement

We want to make sure thatour pupils feel engaged and excited

about attending after-school learning; wewant it to become an integral part of their

school experience.

We aim to introduce an after-school learningpoints system that rewards dedication and

development. We will also give older students(Year 10-13) opportunities to gain leadership

skills in the activities they are passionateabout.

After-School HoursAfter-School Learning Hours will start

from Monday 21st November, with our libraryand 2 main I.C.T. suites being supervised by staff

so students can extend their learning andcomplete homework from 3:05pm-5:00pm

(4:30pm on Fridays).
