Monday Tuesday Circus Arts

Learn tumbling, juggling, clowning, Diablo, partner acrobatics, rope and plate spinning, clown makeup, human pyramids, and much more! This fun class allows

ordinary youngsters to become circus stars! Grades PreK – 1 at 2:45-3:45pm

Magic Have you ever wondered how magicians do their tricks? Can they really read people’s minds? We will learn to do amazing things with everyday objects. New tricks will be taught this term. Get ready to fool your

parents and entertain your friends! Grades 2-5 at 3:45-4:45pm Instructor: Tanya Solomon

Fashion Design Design your very own clothing line. Work with a designer on all stages of the fashion process; draw your ideas, cut your patterns, choose a

fabric, and make a miniature sample of your fashion line. Grades 2–5 at 4:00-5:00pm

Monsters, Creatures and Animals This class will include mixed media as well as a variety of materials. During the semester children will create costumes, a 3 D model of their

animal, creature and/or monster, as well as a group mural. Grades preK-1 at 2:45-3:45pm

Open Studio An exciting experimental art class in a studio atmosphere. Students

will use various materials & media including paper mache, clay, paint, and wire to create projects related to themselves, their world and

interests. We will emphasize creativity & personal interpretation. Grades 2-5 at 3:45-4:45pm Instructor: Clare Walker

Video Workshop: Monster Mash

Students learn video basics to tell stories in this program. Children will be encouraged to make a short video based on their favorite ghouls, monsters and creatures. Children will use live action, animation and

interviews. Use of equipment and basic editing will be included. Grades 1–2 at 3:45-4:45pm

Advanced Video Workshop: Greek Gods & Myths What would happen if the characters from these myths were alive

today? What stories would they tell? Filmmakers will make their own original video based on these classic stories. Students will learn to use

equipment, as well as, directing, acting, writing and editing. Grades 3-5 at 4:45-5:45pm

Ninja Challenge Learn strength, agility and endurance while mastering fun obstacle courses! Each class consists of a conditioning and action packed obstacle courses: jumping, climbing, vaulting,

tumbling and parkour style moves. The Ninja Challenge class inspires teamwork as well as athleticism.

Gymnastics This class is designed to help children become well-

rounded gymnasts. Strength, flexibility, and tumbling are stressed. Safety precautions are taken.

Enter the world of shadow, stick, hand, and paper mache puppets. Explore techniques of creation and the

rich tradition of making puppets from all over the world. Use everyday materials to create your own

Buildings & Structures Designing and constructing models of buildings,

monuments & other city structures while learning basics of architecture. Creativity and imagination encouraged.

Sewing Learn basic sewing techniques while creating a doll of your

own design or a pillow or beanbag creature. Grades K-1 at 3:45-4:45 pm

A Sewing/Quiltmaking Learn how to sew by hand piecing together a small

quilt. Basic patchwork technique using fun & colorful prints on squares of fabric. Design a quilt and sew it.

Urban Art Come join Mr. Josh and learn about the early styles of

street art and grafitti. We will explore how art related to cities and city life also connects to hip hop cultures. Mural

graphics will also be explored. Grades 3-5 at 2:45-3:45pm

Cooking Baking techniques and basic nutritional concepts will be emphasized. Learn to cook old favorites as well as new

Soccer Learn basic skills and rules of the game, stressing

How to Lift a Lion: Making Simple Machines Students explore wheels, ramps, pulleys and levers. They push, pull, slide and crank homemade toys like milk carton cars, spool pulleys and pop-stick levers that may even lift an elephant! They create mini rollercoasters from marbles

and curvy foam ramps. Grades K-2 at 3:45-4:45pm

Mystery Adventures: Forensics Everyone loves a mystery! Through solving a who-done-it,

students are drawn into scientific inquiry. A series of mystery scenarios will be presented throughout the

program; each one will focus on a different science concept and process to solve the crime. Grades 3-5 at 4:45-5:45pm

Chess No previous experience necessary. Taught by World Class

Chess Player. The advanced class teaches strategies as well as logic and critical thinking.

breathe control, kicking, and floating. Swim focuses on stroke and rhythmic breathing. (Must sign up for full day;

Basketball Drills & Skills Lay ups and Dribbles—Featuring drills, stretches & exercises that contribute to developing better hand-eye coordination. Every week

there will be a new dribble introduced. Students will learn how and when to properly execute.

Make Your Own Fairy Houses Students will create their own inventive fairy houses using boxes

cardboard, fabric, feathers and other materials. They will construct both the interiors and exteriors of each house designing

and creating the wallpaper, rugs, furniture, lighting, window decorations, and accessories. They will also create their own tiny

fairies who will call these new places home. Grades K-2 at 3:45-4:45pm

Kids Publish! Students will use the writing process to conceptualize, write, illustrate and produce their own books. We will use games and

activities to hone student's writing and storyboarding skills. Each student will learn to create a visual short story as a precursor to

illustrating and designing their own book. At the end of the semester, we will print each student's book.

BitsBots Basics Your child will choose recyclables such as plastic bottles, cardboard and paper to create sculptures that when combined with littleBits,

come to life and light up, twist, turn, buzz, blink, and shake! Through the process of designing and building, your child will experience the practical and cultural possibilities of new inventions! littleBits are

simple electronic modules, each with specific functions, which can be snapped together magnetically to create large and elaborate circuits

for prototyping and play. Grades preK-1 at 2:45-3:45pm Instructor: Open Source Gallery

BitBots and Bytes This is a series of classes run with the use of found electronics,

littleBits, LEDs, motors, power sources (such as the sun), Arduino (an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible,

easy-to-use hardware and software) and batteries. Utilizing the electronics alongside recycled materials kids create contraptions, kinetic sculptures and creative objects that can move, make sound

and light up! Grades 2-5 at 3:45-4:45pm

Capoeira This self-defense class promotes self-confidence & builds self-esteem. You will learn ABADÁ-Capoeira techniques, Brazilian Portuguese language, music and songs, acrobatic movements and how to have fun while being healthy. Each student will improve his/her concentration, reaction time &

CBE KIDS AFTER SCHOOL CENTER Beth Elohim After School Program at PS 295

CBE Kids After School Program a PS 295 offers children a wide variety of instructional classes and recreational activities in a safe and caring environment. We believe that each child develops at his or own pace. Our program encourages children to express themselves and their creativity in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. All program areas are supervised by a highly qualified staff. The program operates on a tri-mester basis and is available to children from Kindergarten through Grade 5. Fall Term 2016: Tuesday, September 13th – Friday, December 9th. Winter Term 2016: Monday, December 12th – Friday, March 17th. Spring Term 2016: Monday, March 20th – Friday, June 16th. The program is available on school days, Monday-Friday from 2:40 -5:45. Children will enroll and participate in one enrichment class per day. Parents choose if their children will stay for a single enrichment class or a full day which includes an enrichment class and homework help. Families will have the option to register for additional child care at Beth Elohim on days the school is closed and during school vacations, for an additional fee. Pick up on these days will be at Beth Elohim. Daily Schedule: At dismissal time, teachers will escort students participating in the after school program to the cafeteria. Students participating in Extended Day on Monday and Tuesday will be escorted to the cafeteria at 3:30. The daily schedule for the program is as follows:

• PK students can select enrichment class from the first time-slot 2:45 -3:45. Upon completion of the class, they will be escorted to the cafeteria area where parents should pick up their children.

• Students in grades K through 5 can select an enrichment class from the second or third time-slot (depending on the grade specifications). All students who are not in extended day will be escorted to the cafeteria area at 2:40. From 2:40 – 3:45, there will be supervised outdoor play/choice time/snack. At 3:45, students will either go to their first period enrichment class or go to the homework help classroom until 4:45 for the second period enrichment class.

• Students may not be in 2 enrichment classes in 1 day. If they are staying full session, one period will be enrichment and the other period will be homework help or choice games (if no homework needs to be done).

• Students for single classes will either be dismissed at 3:45 if they are PK and 4:45 if they are grades K- 5. • Students who are enrolled in a full day are dismissed at 5:45 from the main area of ground floor. • Students need to be picked up promptly. Supervision is provided during pickup from 5:45 – 6:00. • If you are running late, please call the security desk (718) 965-0390 ext. 1000. They will forward the call

to the day’s supervisor. • LATE PICK-UP POLICY: For every minute past 6 pm, you will be charged $1 per minute to be paid at
