AGIP Provides IP Rights Recordation Servicewith the Algerian CustomsALGIERS – Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) as the leading global IP firm providing Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) protection, provides a new service in Algeria tightening trademarks’ owners protection against the unauthorized importation of goods bearing trademarks or logos identical or similar to their trademarks.
Recordation with the Directorate General of Customs in Algeria is one of the most effective procedures for enforcing IPRs in Algeria. As a prerequisite, trademarks’ owners have to register their trademarks with Algeria Trademark Office under the authority of Algerian Ministry of Industry first and then record the trademarks with the Directorate General of Customs.
Upon this recordation, the Customs officials across all Algerian Customs border points shall have the right to stop and seize any goods found to bear similar or identical trademark(s) to the original ones.
The recordation procedures are very simple, and AGIP helps trademarks’ owners maximize their protection at the borders. To record your IPRs through AGIP, you need to submit the following required documents:• Engagement (in French Language) to be dated, signed and stamped by the client and legalized
by the Algerian Embassy.• POA to be dated, signed and stamped by the client and legalized by the Algerian Embassy.• Copy of the certificate of registration of the trademark. • Minimum of 70 photos of the products and their packaging with all description (weight, length,
width, technical data sheet)

Class Heading as Description of Goodsis no Longer Acceptable in AlgeriaALGIERS – The Algerian National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI) has recently issued new regulations stipulate that the use of class headings as the list of goods in trademark applications will no longer be accepted in Algeria.
Trademark applications with class heading will be refused because each claimed list of goods and/or services should be specified in details to avoid any possible rejection during the examination phase.

AGIP Team Attends INTA First Virtual Annual & Leadership Meetings 2020AMMAN – Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) attended the INTA first-ever virtual Meeting and Leadership Meeting which were held from November 16th – 20th, 2020, with over 3000 participants.
The INTA Annual Meeting is the world’s largest gathering of brand owners, trademark practitioners and IP professionals from all over the world, offering a large-scale platform for participants.
Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) participated in the INTA Annual Meeting this year with five representatives from the regional office and other AGIP offices: Mr. Luay Abu-Ghazaleh, CEO and Managing Partner, Mr. Charles Shaban, Executive Director of AGIP, Mr. Motasem Abu-Ghazaleh, National Development Executive Director, Ms. Dima Naber, Counsel and International Business Development Executive Director and Ms. Deema Abu-Zuleikha, Senior Legal Consultant and Brand Protection Department Manager.
AGIP’s team took part in multiple educational programs and networking opportunities including panel discussions and table topics, to stay current on trends and new trademark developments worldwide, conduct committee work and meet online with colleagues from around the world.
AGIP has been a member of INTA since 1994 and its team has attended both annual and leadership meetings.

Registration of Collective Marks Containing Geographical Indications in Saudi ArabiaRIYADH – The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) announced the launch of a service for the registration of collective marks containing geographical indications in line with the international practices.
The Authority explained that collective marks containing geographical indications can be registered for products that have specific geographical origin, specifications or reputation attributed to that origin. The registration of such collective marks contributes to the distinction of geographical origin, materials, manufacturing method and other common characteristics of goods or services.
The Authority set out the requirements for the registration of collective marks with geographical indications as follows:
• Copy of the trademark.• Name, address and nationality of the applicant. • Exact description of the trademark.• Services or products for which the trademark will be registered.• Indication of the persons entitled to use the trademark and their relationship
with the applicant.

Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global) has recently issued Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Dictionary for Patent Terms, which is the sixth in a series of specialized dictionaries conducted by the Organization.
The new Dictionary contains around 20 thousand words and terms, including a section on continuous controversy over the concept of patent, its legitimacy and application. It also comprises other sections regarding green patents, patent governance, patent portfolio management, analysis of information related to patents and patent audit, as well as a crucial section including the most prominent crimes concerning patents and another section on litigation and arbitration of patent disputes.
