IMPORT RESTRICTIONS OF JAPAN

Addendum

Liberalization Measures Effective as from 7 April 1960

The following note has been transmitted by the Government of Japan

Another step of import liberalization was taken by the Tapanese Governmentas from 7 April 1960.

The details of the new measures are, except for the minor changes indicatedbelow, as announced in January and circulated to the contracting parties in L/1143.

I. Automatic Approval. System

(1) Removal of dollar discrimination

(a) Dollar discrimination on iron and steel scrap, beef tallow, andlard (crude) was removed, as announced in L/1143.

(b) It was definitely decided that cattle hides and kip skins were tobe added to the Automatic Approval System on 1 July 1960.

(2) Automatic approval system items

(a) Record mother (including recorded tape) listed as one of the manitems in Annex C of L/1143 was transferred to the Automatic FundAllocation System.

(b) The sixty-five items in Annex I were added to the Automatic ApprovalSystem in addition to those in Annex C of L/1143.

(c) But the following items were deleted from the category of chemicalsin the said Amnex.

(1) Synthetic resin and auxiliaries: Nos. 22, 23, 24, 31, 40,44, 45 and 48.

(10) Other chemicals: Nos. 53 and 54,

III.Automatic Fund Allocation System

The 153 items (68 finished goods and 85 materials and semi-processedgoods) listed in Annex II were newly added to the Automatic Fund AlloationList in addition to the items in Annex D in L/1143.

At the same time,four item viz.Nos, 4, 5, 6 and 7 under section (11)other inorganic chemicals, were deleted from the list in innex D.
