WHAT IS AIESEC?ORIGIN OF AIESEC AIESEC is the global youth network impacting the world through leadership development experiences.

Present in over 124 countries and terri-tories and with over 100,000 members, AIESEC is the world’s largest youth-run organisation. We are run by youth, for youth, and we envision ‘peace and fulfil-ment of humankind’s potential’.

AIESEC was founded in 1948 in post-war Europe where a group of young individuals from 7 countries, determined to create change, came together to create an organisation that aimed to “expand the understanding of a nation by expanding the understanding of the individuals, changing the world one person at a time”.

In a world where we face many difffer-ent global challenges at different times, we believe the solution is to develop responsible and entrepreneurial young leaders today who will choose how the world will be like tomorrow.

“To expand the understanding of a na-tion by expanding the understanding of the individuals, changing the world one person at a time”

AIESEC VALUES Our values provide a way for the collective leadership of AIESEC to encourage common norms of be-haviour across our global network which will support the achievement of our goals and will support us in pursuing our ideals.

Living Diversity: Opinions rep-resented in our multicultural environment. We respect and actively encourage the contribu-tion of every individual.

Activating Leadership: We lead by example and inspire leadership through our activities. We take full responsibility for developing the youth leadership potential of our members.

Striving for Excellence: We aim to deliver the highest quality perfor-mance in everything we do. Through creativity and innovation we seek to continuously improve.

Acting Sustainably: We act in a way that is sustainable for our organisation and society. Our decisions take into account the needs of future genera-tions.

Enjoying Participation: We create a dynamic environment created by ac-tive and enthusiastic participation of individuals. We enjoy being involved in AIESEC.

Demonstrating Integrity: We are consistent and transparent in our decisions and actions. We fulfil our commitments and conduct ourselves in a way that is true to our ideals.

The way we do this is unlike anyone else in the world. We provide practi-cal leadership experiences by living and delivering international exchange programs that develop leadership in others. In doing so, young people are exposed to a global learning environ-ment where they have the confidence to learn and the freedom to fail. With 65 years of experience, AIESEC is committed to creating change agents that will make a positive impact on society.

So what will you do to make a dif-ference in your world?

Finance and Operations (F&O): While most people would see this as pure ac-counting and handling the financial side of the organisation, it is only a part of the portfolio’s function. ‘Operations’ includes the critical analysis of an organisation’s operations and utilising the resulting data to make investments and func-tions more efficient and achieve better results. It is vital to the function of AIESEC Sydney, and is responsible for the direction and growth of it as an enterprise. External Relations (ER): External Relations focuses on developing and sustaining relationships with external bodies, individuals, and organisations to support and further our organisation’s opera-tions. We engage externals with AIESEC and collaborate with them to form mutually ben-eficial partnerships. TESTIMONIALSJefferson Wong

I believe that my experience has been truly wonder-ful and all-rounded during this semester. From being inducted during the late round, I have truly connected myself with this AIESEC ‘family’ from a situation where I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I believe that during my time in OGX Raising, I have had an im-mensely satisfying feeling by sending EPs on GCDP exchanges to help them experience the different world-wide cultures.

The exchange process is a very exciting one and I have experienced many MRBs, as well as core rais-ing and core matching work, with the most wonderful team. Being able to attend the National OGX summit for the first time has also been a highlight of mine to see AIESEC through a different perspective, in terms of AIESEC Australia and their nationwide operations.

Aside from OGX, I have also enjoyed participating in MAC events and helping out the LC with such promo-tional activities. Everyone in AIESEC is truly inspiring!

Grace So

The most positive aspects of my AIESEC experience in 2013 was being able to be part of an amazing organiza-tion that allows young people to impact positive change in the world. It was really amazing knowing that my involvement, even in an indirect way, was enabling posi-tive change in communities in developing countries. In addition, it was great that I was part of an organisation that fosters leadership development in young people. Being part of such strong values and direction was one of my most positive aspects of my AIESEC experience.

Another positive aspect of my AIESEC journey in 2013 was being in such a passionate community of like-minded young people. It was amazing being connected with other energetic young people, from all around the university and in the region, with a common vision. In addition, it was a really positive and inspiring experi-ence to be working together on a united goal: facilitat-ing leadership in young people, and change in global communities.

Kofi Annan, Former Secretary General, United Nations (1997-2006)

“The United Nations has long recognised that the imagination, ideals and energies of young men and women are vital for the continuing development of the societies in which they live. AIESEC has contributed to this development by serving as an agent of positive change through education and cultural exchange to develop a broader understanding of cultural, socioeconomic and business management issues.”
