JL Mann’s School Improvement Council has kicked off

its meetings for the 2017-2018 school year! School

Improvement Council (SIC) exists to work cooperatively

for the betterment of the school. We believe that all

children are capable of learning. We are committed

Spirit Week – Though shortened, due to Hurricane Irma, there was a ton of spirit and activities to

raise money for the Frazee Center. Many students participated in afternoon buyout activities and

showed their spirit for our themed dress-up days.

Progress Reports and Grades – Progress reports were issued and given to students last week. Please understand

that we only put grades in PowerSchool, which is visible via the Parent Portal, at the time of progress reports

and report cards. For day-to-day grades and feedback, please see your student’s progress in ECHO, our online

platform. If you do not have an account, you can sign up for one here. If you have an ECHO account, but are

confused on how to interpret grades, please see this helpful video.

Parents new to NewTech@Mann, if you are surprised by the grades you see, with students not meeting your

expectations, please know that a drop in performance is often normal at first. Many students take some time to

understand the flow of how our program works, but, once they get their balance, their grades should bounce

back.

Guest Speaker for Earth Science – Scott Kilgore from Radium Architecture

visited recently to speak with Earth Science students about building structure

and support for their upcoming project tied to tectonics and earthquakes.

Visitors Get to See Students in Action – Last week we hosted the eighth grade administrative team from Hughes

Academy, one of our feeder middle schools. Hughes is a magnet school for science and technology. The Hughes

administrative team has been visiting the high schools they feed into to get an idea of how they can better

prepare their students for their future expectations. The visitors from Hughes were treated to a tour of our new

building and shown some of the exciting things happening right now in our program by our student ambassadors.

The guests from Hughes were blown away by how professional and thorough our ambassadors were.
