IT Strategy of Airport OperationAutomation Problems of Airport Operation and IT Strategy

Problem IT Strategy

1 Improve airport safety and service quality

Improve flight information system, BHS, establish information service system and BRS.

2 Information can not be shared among IT systems

Apply international standard and define information exchange architecture and interfaces. (i.e. IATA Standard,Information Broker, and Central Database System)

Page 6: airport 11052007

Automation Problems of Airport Operation and IT Strategy

Problem IT Strategy

3 Networks can not be shared, and it is not easy to be managed and expanded.

Establish airport communication backbone system, integrated cable system, network management system and drawing management system.

4 It is not efficient to contact all the related parties in the airport when incident occurred.

Establish emergent response system and airport command center using Information Technology(IT).

IT Strategy of Airport Operation

Automation Problems of Airport Operation and IT Strategy

Problem IT Strategy

5 Short of manpower of the Airport Authority

Establish or upgrade IT systems to distributed on-line processing, reduce the centralized batch processing of the Airport Authority

Apply international standard to integrate the terminal control center

6 It is not easy to integrate the existing systems in the airport because some of them are not open system.

Establish a migration plan and integration strategy

Information Broker

Page 12: airport 11052007

Information Broker

Central Database System

Definition

• The Information Broker(IB) is a set of standard software and customized application that provides a means for systems to communicate and exchange data in a secure and reliable manner.

• The IB can eliminates the need for system to maintain several interfaces with other systems, which may require different interfaces with individual data exchange format and protocols.

Functions• Subject based addressing, Publish/Subscribe (Not network addressing)

• Information Validation, Filtering

• Guarantee Delivery (1:N, N:1, deferred delivery)

• Routing Rules, Priority• Load Balancing

• Information Security

(Encryption,Authentication,Audit)

• HA/ Disaster Recovery

Central Database System

Central Database

Definition

The Central Database is a central repository and database, that can be used to collect and disseminate critical airport operational information from different applications to a wider audience of users that can include airport user, airlines, ground handlers, CIQ staff, and etc..

Functions

• Security control of information access • Maintain information integrity and consistency

• Support Internet Standard • Support Multi-languages • The Central Database outage shall n

ot prevent other systems’ communication.

• HA/ Disaster Recovery

Flight Information System

Typical Issues

• The flight information is collected through manual method.

• The message format of flight information does not comply with international standard.

• The gate & stand allocation system (GAS) is an off-line system.

• FIDS displays basic flight information.

Future Feature

• The real-time flight information is automatically collected through SITA and FIMS network.

• The message format of flight information will follow IATA standard.

• Provide on-line GAS.

• FIDS will provide more display information; for example, Passenger Final Call etc..

Information Service System

Definition

• The definition of staff can be the airport user, airlines, ground handlers, CIQ staff, and etc..

• The ground service staff can be the staff of airlines, ground handlers, fuel, cater company.

• CIQ: Custom, Immigration, and

Quarantine

Functions

• Passenger Service - Lost and found - Passenger complain - Airport information

• Ground service - Supervising and controlling the relevant processes involved in aircraft handling• Information Query - Flight information - Alert information - Airport directory information• Internet Service - Airport WWW Service

• Kiosk - Airport information - Traffic, travel, hotel, rent a car
