G. Gill Award. This award, one of four that honors public health workers in the state, is pre- sented each year to an individual who has made exceptional contributions to public health. Shory was honored especially for his “dedication and never-ending determina- tion” to provide fluoridated water to all Alabamians. Leonard 1898-1983 Dick Leonard should hold a special spot in the hearts of all members of the Amer- ican Association of Public Health Dentists past, present, and yet to come-because he was a key organizing force of AAPHD. He served as the first convener or presider and then the next year as the first presi- dent of this American Association of Public Health Dentists. He also played a key role in the early years of this publication as an early editor of the Bulletin of the Associa- tion, a mimeographed 8 1/2 x 11 quarterly which he shepherded from 1950 to 1959.
