CD/DVD Cover Attempts (Drafts)

As I was coming to the stage of producing my CD/DVD Cover, I needed to get images so that I could start editing them, to use as the CD/DVD Cover.

In this case, I took images of my ‘featured girl’ as she was going to be the main feature on the CD/DVD Cover and Promotional Poster. In doing so, I took the pictures with a ‘Nikon DX’ in which the standard of quality was quite good. I took a numerous amount of photos, in which they were all from different angles, with different poses and looks being given by the ‘featured girl’.

These photos are extremely important, as they give the verdict for the target audience on whether they would buy the single/album or not. Whatever is portrayed in the image is addressed to the audience, in which from looking at the image, they will be able to identify the meaning of the album or the theme of the album. However, artists mainly show this through their album cover name, in which they like to have a theme or concept relating to the album (e.g. Adele’s album ‘21’ is the concept of her being in a major break-up, in which it was the age where she was official became an adult).

The following slides are going to show, two images that I previewed as a draft for the CD/DVD Cover, in which I got audience feedback on what they thought looked good, what didn’t look good and what could be changed. The images have been shown three times, because they have been edited by using ‘Picture Tools’ on Microsoft PowerPoint, to show differentiation between them.

Attempt 1:

This is the first attempt of me having ideas for the CD/DVD Cover. As you can, the image shows the ‘featured girl’ looking into the camera, in which her facial expression is quite sweet and innocent. You are able to identify this from her little pout and her wide eyes, which makes the image look naturally beautiful. A lot of the target audience thought this image would be great as the CD/DVD Cover as the ‘featured girl’ looked beautiful and the image looked realistic. However, others thought that the image made the ‘featured girl’ looked confused and not show the idea of sweetness or innocence (however others disagreed with this statement).

Continuing from the first attempt, this is the alternative CD/DVD Cover of the ‘featured girl’. From looking at the image, you can identify that the girl looks quite scared and sad, in which the emotion isn’t identifiable for the audience, as she is not suppose to look scared in the picture, however, she shows a sense of vulnerability through her eyes. A lot of the target audience also believed that the featured girl look scared and lost/bewildered as there was no emotion behind identified in her face, in which it did not go with the name of the album

Attempt 2:

This is the second attempt of me having ideas for the CD/DVD Cover. The image is the same image from the first attempt, except that I have added a black and white (greyscale) effect and I have changed the colour of the album title to green. These effect was inspired by Adele’s second album ‘21’. A lot of the target audience thought the effects look good as the image seemed similar to Adele’s second album ‘21’, however they thought the black and effect emphasised the fact, that she looked scared and stunned in the image, due to her eyes being wide open.

Continuing from the second attempt, this is the alternative CD/DVD Cover of the ‘featured girl’. From looking at the image, you can identify that I added a black and white (greyscale) effect to the image, in which I also changed the colour of the text to green. I thought this made the image look quite sad. A lot of the target audience thought this album cover looked quite scary and weird, as the featured girl was showing no emotion, in which the black and white effect made the image look dark instead of sweet and innocent.

Attempt 3:

This is the third attempt of me having ideas for the CD/DVD Cover. The image is the same image from the first and second attempt, except that I have added a bright effect, in which I have kept the original colour of the text. A lot of the target audience thought the brightness effect was nice, but it made the featured girl look scary and ill, as the effect made her face look incredibly pale. In this case, others though the effect was used quite nicely, as it made the featured girl look more innocent.

Continuing from the third attempt, this is the alternative CD/DVD Cover of the ‘featured girl’. From looking at the image, you can identify that I also added a brightness effect to this image, to give a softer look to the ‘featured girl’. A lot of the target audience thought this album cover made the ‘featured girl’ looked lost and confused as there was no facial expression and no background behind her.
