  • ARCHITECTURAL VISION

Socially responsible behaviour is dependent on repetitive individual and collective exposure to our cultural evolution. Many museums today seem to see their visitors as the largest threat to their own collections and exhibitions. This attitude leaves museums passive in their perfor-mative role as cutting-edge institutions and in their relationship to the public at large. To enable the New Hungarian National Gallery and the Ludwig Muse-um to have the desired active role; interacting and communicating with their audience, our project is based on the following principles:The wish to unify two museums in one building while maintaining a strong individual identity for each. We are situating both institutions under a singular public roof that is always accessible. Thus the roof becomes an inherent part of the City Park as does its` elevated continuation offering great views over the whole of Budapest.Architecturally, we strive to create a museum building that offers excit-ing, modern and contemporary spaces that enable an art experience confidently suited to the display of art from varying epochs and styles. We aim to create an inspirational environment for education and mu-seum learning, where the thoughts and philosophical mindsets funda-mental to any form of art creation and understanding are at the centre

point. The centre point of the building symbolises the meeting point of two art institutions, the meeting of light and earth at the horizon simul-taneously resolving practicalities of daylighting and embodying gravity at the meeting of the Ludwig Museum and the New National Gallery. In the heart of the building we envision a large open public space that serves both institutions. Here the visitors, local and from afar, young and old, are invited to start their journey of exploring art, in the Ludwig Museum and New National Gallery. The juxtaposition of the two institutions beneath a common fabric cre-ates a space where tensions serve to inspire a metaphysical reaction field between collections, and beyond the individual mind.

    SITE RELATIONS

Situated in the North-East of the City Park the New National Gallery and Ludwig Museum form the new focal point at the end of an axis from the 1956 Monument. This together with the new Hungarian Museum of Architecture, and the Photography Museum forms a gateway to the park. Our buildings shape reacts to this visual axis and continues the park upwards on a public stairway from which visitors can enjoy elevated views above the trees and out over the entire city. With its two high-

points and the two gently tilting surfaces the building clearly reacts towards the pedestrian flow coming from Hermina t in the North, while simultaneously creating an extension of Napozrt to the South. This generous gesture towards Napozrt, is intended to strengthen the quality of the existing park structure, while adding variety to the experi-ence of the park. The roof of the building is extended back to the public instead of merely occupying a large portion of the park.

By enabling people to explore the roof of the building with a scalable surface, which is activated with cafs, terraces and unobstructed views, we aim to create a genuine ownership among visitors as well as locals, integral to the strategy of making the two new museums a genuine part of Budapest. The scalable peak-like quality of the 40 metre volume creates a visi-ble and attractive destination for the North East corner for the park, contributing to an enhanced flow of park visitors. The sloping volumes adopt different characteristics at different times of the day: shade or exposure, high or low the choice is yours. While clearly relating to one historical axis with the buildings volume, the volume similarly reacts to pedestrian flows along the diagonal con-nection of Vajdahunyad stny as well as from Zichy Mihly t. As a result of this our building has multiple entrances from all sides

with a main entrance from the new Museum Plaza between Zichy Mi-hly t and the New National Gallery and Ludwig Museum. The entry plaza appears to float independently from the building due in part, to the ramped gallery down to the parking levels allowing the building volume to visually slide below grade.

The park plaza to the North invites visitors from the Metro, and residen-tial areas, either visiting the institutions or simply traversing the park. The park plaza weaves beneath and between the existing trees and comprises a combination of paving and reinforced grass. The artefact delivery port is subtly integrated in the faade and the park plaza more than adequately accommodates even the largest vehicle manoeuvring under safe conditions whilst retaining an open, park-like quality.

The existing southern plinth in of the former building is removed and the terrain returned to a natural incline toward the park. Here the roofscape naturally fuses with the park landscape and at this point we envisage a large potential for hosted or spontaneous events with a natural amphitheatre. The proposed sporting development to the North West could similarly feed from the roofscape to form an integrat-ed solution to terracing, event hosting and arrangements potentially offering a sizeable financial contribution to the institutions.

MODERN KHMER HOUSE3rd GRADE, CAMBODIAN SUSTAINABLE HOUSING COMPETITION, GB

Modern Khmer House is an example of an ideal house for Cambodian families.. Almost a whole house is built with cheap, durable and natural material - bamboo. Due to the lack of main building material (despite the perfect climate conditions for its growth), our group suggested to begin cultivation (industrialization) of bamboo in the area. This solutions works well in other Asian countries for example China, Japan and Thailand. Establishment of bamboo plantations would provide jobs in the region and bamboo surplus could be exported outside of Asia. Such an idea could stimulate and develop the economy of the country. Cambodian people are suffering from a limited access to clean water. Shape of the build-ing is designed in a way to solve this problem. The slope of the roof is directed to the center of the building in order to gather rainwater on an ongoing basis to be used in the household. Such a solution could have a positive influence on health of the inhabitants and promote safe living spaces. Natural ventilation, funcional arrage-ment and umbrella effect influence comfort and healthy interior climate.

  • HOTEL INSOMNIA3rd GRADE, COMMERCIAL BUILDING DESIGN

Hotel Insomnia is a project of a 3-star academic hotel. A main assumption of the concept was to create a green passage in a city centre space, which could serve both hotel guests and Poznan inhabitants. The space between the north facade of the building and existing back-yards is a walking route connecting the Bernar-dynski square with Mostowa street. The space thanks to its cosiness and greenery is a perfect place to rest in a shade and eat a meal in the hotel restaurant. The building was pulled back to the maximum from the men-tioned backyards to not overshadow them.Additionally, the facility contains fitness center with saunas and massage rooms. Two conference halls were designed; one large for business meet-

ings and the second for student talks, semi- lecutres and media library purposes. In the Insomnia hotel, there are several kinds of accomodation units. In the west part, units with higher standard were designed. Their furnishings include a special workplace. The building design provides a use of ecological materials. The building facade is a double glass facade with a shading sysem inside. It ensures thermal comfort throughout a year. What is more, the green ventilated green roof influences the percent of biologically active surface of the site.

  • VITAMIN GREEN PROJECT3rd GRADE, COMMERCIAL BUILDING DESIGN

The main idea behind the Vitamin Green Project was a humanization of modernistic neighbourhood. The concept introduces a business model for its inhabitants. The vertical farming facility is beeing used by inhabitants to produce food both for they own use and for sale. Sheep barn and its infrastructure attract tourists and deal as wool factory for unique eco sweater designs. The sheep bred by aging part of community could have marking rings, so that the customers could know out of which particular sheep his piece of clothing was made. The floorplan anticipates meeting point with common kitchen for local community, laboratory, fashion designer studio and backrooms for all functions. The building should help the locals to meet each other, find ultimate solutions for aging generation revival and give oppurtunity to exchange knowledge among people. This unique concept is a trial of finding new business models in order to make amends to inhabitants for modernism mistakes.

    STAWNA HOUSING2nd GRADE, HOUSING DESIGN

The building is located between Wroniecka and Zydowska street in Poznan. The form of the building is designed in a way to fit in the old city centre character. Additionally, the goal was to creat a original background for the New Synagogue building standing right next to the site. The section of the facade harmonizes with the the adjacent tenements. The facade system used consists mainly of double glazed facade with remote controlled shading between the glass layers. The rest remaining part of the facade is covered with aluminium panels.

Flats in different price segments were designed. Part of them were equipped with roof gardens. The whole complex togeth-er with its courtyard should be a green island in the oldtown tissue. The communication is solved by 3 main stairwells with elevators. The whole building was adjusted to disabled people. There is an entrance to the under-ground parking from the Zydowska street side. The fire road was led through the inner court-yard, further to existing backyards.

  • FLYING LOTUS3rd GRADE, FURNITURE DESIGN

    COCOONINSTALLATION ART

Flying Lotus is an armchair made out of one piece of 100x50 mattress foam. During the concept phase the material was stretched into variety of complex shapes to end up with the simplest possible solution giving the maximum strength in the back area. The material tension enables to lean freely. After finding the final armchair form, a subtle metal frame was fitted in the shape to support the seat.

Cocoon installation art is a parametrically designed sculpture made in the faculty of law building on Adam Mickiewicz University request. The main goal was to change the atmo-sphere of the space by using contrasting materi-als and light. The installation changes its face in different part of a day, delivering various visual

experiences. We played a lot with different materials to end up with stretch foil, which gave the unique space crystalization effect. The sculpture was a part of conference cycle organized by law students association.
