The Houston-Fearless All-Metal Tripod is ideal foruse with 35mm motion picture cameras as well astelevision cameras either in the studio or in thefield. It combines extreme ruggedness, adaptabil-ity, rigidity, ease of operation and portability notfound in any other tripod. Available in both %length and full length, it offers many exclusive,valuable features.

STURDY CONSTRUCTION

The top plate and the upper legs are one piecealuminum alloy castings which provide extrastrength with a minimum of weight. The lowerlegs are lY2" seamless steel tubes, heavily hard-chrome plated to prevent corrosion. Each slideswithin a long-length bearing which is held to closetolerances. A tie rod attaches each leg to a centertube, leveling the tripod automatically and pre-venting the legs from slipping. Thus, minimumplay and maximum rigidity are assured through-out the working range.

FAST, EASY OPERATION

The % length tripod may be adjusted to heightsfrom 25Ys"to 42Y2" and the full length from 39%"to 63%" to top of tripod, exclusive of head. Cali-bration numbers engraved on the lower legs sim-plify leveling. When adjusted for desired height,legs are locked in position by a positive wedgelocking device which eliminates slippage. Whenfolded, the legs are locked in the closed positionwith a spring-loaded catch.

RUBBER PAD FEET OR SPIKE

The ends of the legs are fitted with a combinationspike and a rubber-faced pad, and can be convertedfrom one to the other in seconds. The pad is uni-versally mounted, thereby adapting itself to anyangle. The rubber surface prevents damage tofloors. The spike is quickly latched into place witha knob. The pads provide a suitable mounting foruse with the Tripod Dolly.

TRIPOD DOLLY

The Houston-Fearless Tripod Dolly is designed toprovide convenient mobility for tripod-mountedtelevision and motion picture cameras. In studiouse, it provides a rapid means of position chang-ing, and also permits the use of a tripod-mountedcamera for rolling shots. Used in the field, in rea-sonably flat terrain, the Dolly allows an easymeansfor moving and positioning the tripod. TheHouston-Fearless Tripod Dolly, while expresslyintended for use with the Houston-Fearless All-Metal Tripod, is also designed to handle any stan-dard % length wooden tripod.

RUGGED BUILDThe frame of the Tripod Dolly is made of strong,lightweight tubular steel, hard-chrome plated toeliminate corrosion. It is supported on three rub-ber-tired swivel wheels, five inches in diameter.Braces connecting the legs provide for rigidity.The tripod is fastened firmly to the dolly by aclamp at each leg.

COMPLETE MOBILITYThe dolly rolls smoothly and quietly on its threerubber-tired wheels, carrying a camera, frictionhead and tripod. As each wheel is on a swivel, thecourse is easily changed by merely pushing in theproper direction. Caster locking devices at eachwheel make it possible to lock two or all threewheels in a parallel position, enabling the dollyto track in a straight line for rolling dolly shots,closely simulating results obtained with more ex-pensive equipment. Usually all wheels are lockedfor dolly shots, while two locked wheels alloweasy steering.

Three rubber-tipped stabilizer screws may be ap-plied against the floor when it is desirable to holdthe dolly in a fixed position.

FOLDS COMPACTLYFor carrying, the dolly folds quickly and com-pactly. A self-locking device holds it tightly to-gether. Weighs only 25Y2lbs. Easily set up in amatter of seconds. The tripod dolly is ideal forremote shows where dollies or pedestals are notavailable.

The head moves on standard grease-sealed ball bearings.and can be panned a full 360°. A lever at the rear con-troIs an expanding brass shoe which provides an efficientbrake for the pan and, if desired, adds drag to panningaction. Adjustment is provided to compensate for wear.

The head may be tilted 45° forward and 45° backward.The tilt action is accurately counter-balanced for thefull length of tilt through the use of a single helicaltorsion spring, which is totally enclosed. An importantfeature is a knob which may be rotated to provide com-pensation for an unbalanced load, such as a large tele-photo lens. This adjustment is easily made and requiresno tools.The drag and brake adjustments on the tilt action areindependent of each other. Both controls are conveni-ently located on the right side of the head with the brake.handle adjustable to compensate for wear. A wide rangeof smooth tilt-drag may be obtained by the rotation ofa knob. An expanding cast-iron shoe, working againsta polished steel tube, provides a long, trouble-free wear-ing surface for both the tilt-drag and brake.

The operating handle is of steel tubing fitted with arubber grip. It is adjustable from 18" to 26" and may bedetached from the head. It may be angularly adjustedwith respect to the. head by means of a quick-actingcam. Positive positioning is maintained between thehandle and head with a milled serration clamp lock.

Heat-treated aluminum alloy castings are used through-out. All steel parts are hard-chrome plated and bolts,screws and miscellaneous fittings are of stainless steel.A two-way level is attached to the base of the head.Fits Houston-Fearless All-Metal Tripod, Panorarn Dolly,Television Pedestal, Hi-Hat, or any standard tripod.

The Houston-Fearless RelayHead provides a rigid, easily-adjusted tilt head for televisionor microwave relay purposes.A parabolic reflector, whenmounted on the head, mayeasily be positioned in any di-rection and locked rigidly inplace. Long handles on boththe pan and tilt locks makewrenches or special tools un-necessary. Calibration scales onboth azimuth and tilt allow forquick resetting of fixed points.Heavy counterbalance springsprevent overturning the para-bola while adjusting the tilt.
