SARA LYNN BAIRDDepartment Chair

Sara Lynn Baird joins the Music Department at Auburn University as Professor and Chair. Previously she served as Stephanie Landry Barineau Professor in Choral Studies and Interim Dean for the College of Music and Dramatic Arts at Louisiana State University. She has conducted mixed choirs and women's ensembles and the LSU Select Women's Ensemble under her direction was selected by audition to perform at the 2002 ACDA Southern Division Convention. She has also taught graduate and undergraduate Choral Conducting and Literature.

MARK DEGOTITrumpet

Dr. Mark DeGoti is Associate Professor of Trumpet at Auburn University. Since joining the faculty in 2010, he has performed with the Colorado Symphony, Charleston Symphony, Columbus Symphony, and McCall Music Festival. In addition, Dr. DeGoti also taught at Eastern Illinois University and The Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. As a clinician, he has presented at the MTNA National Conference, the Midwest Clinic, The College Music Society Southeast Conference, as well as The Alabama Music Educators Association Conference. Dr. DeGoti’s students have successfully performed at the International Trumpet Guild Conference, National Trumpet Competition, and MTNA National Competition. Dr. DeGoti holds degrees from Indiana University (D.M. and M.M) and University of Michigan (B.M.). His primary teachers were John Rommel and Charles Daval.

SHANE DICKERSONBassoon

Marc Shane Dickerson teaches bassoon and Appreciation of Music as a part- time instructor at Auburn. He completed a year of post-graduate studies with classes at both Richmond College and Guildhall School of Music in London, studying bassoon pedagogy with Neville Mackinder. While in London, Mr. Dickerson pursued studies in Art, Music and Drama on a track towards Fine Arts Administration. At Auburn University, he earned the B S and M Ed degrees in Music Education and bassoon performance, studying with Laurence Morgan. Mr. Dickerson was a charter member of the City of Mobile Symphonic Pops Band and a member of the Mobile Opera Orchestra for many years. He presently performs as a freelance orchestral player and member of the Plains Woodwind Trio.

KAREN GARRISONFlute

Karen Garrison is Professor of Flute in the Department of Music at Auburn University. In addition to teaching applied flute lessons, she teaches classes in pedagogy, woodwind skills, and general music studies. She also serves as the Music

Department's Woodwind Coordinator. As a flutist Dr. Garrison has performed at numerous national conferences, including those of the National Flute Association, Music Teachers National Association, The College Music Society, and National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors. Dr. Garrison earned degrees in music education and performance from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, University of South Carolina, and Florida State University.

ANN KNIPSCHILDOboe

Ann Knipschild teaches oboe, woodwinds methods, and Music and Science at Auburn. She received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and the Master of Music degree from Yale University, studying oboe with Ronald Roseman. She holds baccalaureate degrees in both music and agronomy from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dr. Knipschild is active as a recitalist and chamber musician and has performed regularly with the Auburn Wind Trio, Auburn Wind Quintet, Alabama Chamber Players, and as Oboist and English Hornist with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, Albany (Ga.) Symphony Orchestra, Columbus (Ga.) Symphony Orchestra and the Nashville Chamber Orchestra. She has been featured on concerts throughout the United States and in Puerto Rico, Greece, Italy, Austria, England, Scotland, and The Netherlands.

DAVID ODOMClarinet

David Odom has a thriving career as soloist, chamber artist, orchestral musician and educator. Having performed on four continents, his recent appearances include the Festival Internacional de Música de Campina Grande in Brazil and the ICA ClarinetFest in Kansas and Spain. His performances have been featured on television and radio, including Georgia Public Broadcasting, Public Broadcasting Atlanta, and Brazilian TV Cultura. He enjoys bringing new music to audiences, working with composers such as Augusta Read Thomas and David Maslanka, and also endeavors to revive lesser-known and under-performed repertoire. His recording of the complete clarinet and piano works of Max Reger was released by Albany Records in 2016. Odom is Principal Clarinet of the Atlanta Opera Orchestra and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra (GA) and is Associate Professor at Auburn University. He has presented or performed at the conferences of ICA, CMS, MTNA, NACWPI and CDBNA. He is a D’Addario Woodwinds performing artist.

MICHAEL PENDOWSKISaxophone

Michael Pendowski is currently the Director of the Jazz Ensemble and Instructor of Saxophone at Auburn University. Previously he has taught at Eastman School of Music, VanderCook College of Music, Northwestern University, DePaul University, Harper Community College, and Wheaton-Warrenville High School He is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music with a doctorate in Jazz and Contemporary Media, and Northwestern University with Degrees in Conducting and Music Education. He has published dozens of compositions, writing for the full spectrum of ensembles available in today's' schools and universities. Pendowski’s jazz compositions are considered to be at the forefront of the field and are performed throughout the United States, Japan and Europe.

DOUG ROSENERPercussion

Doug Rosener received his Bachelors degree in Music Education from Penn State University, his Masters in Percussion Performance from the University of North Texas, and his Doctorate in Percussion Performance from the University of Colorado in Boulder. He has performed with many professional orchestras including the Altoona Symphony, the Boulder Philharmonic, the Sinfonia of Colorado, the Colorado Ballet Company Orchestra, The Colorado Springs Symphony, and the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra. While at North Texas he performed with such artists as Trilok Gurtu, Airto, and Chad Wackerman. He was also a member of the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps in 1987, 1988, and 1990.

BILL SCHAFFERHorn

Dr. Schaffer holds the Bachelor of Music Education degree from Indiana University, where his teachers included Philip Farkas and Michael Hatfield, a Master of Music in horn performance (Illinois State) and a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree (UNC-Greensboro). He has taught in the public schools in both Virginia and Illinois. His orchestral credits include the Peoria Symphony (IL), the National Opera Company, and resident orchestras for such festivals as the 1989 Bodensee Festival in Friedrichshafen, W. Germany, and the Roque Cordero Festival Orchestra in Normal Illinois. Dr. Schaffer performs recitals regularly and has been featured as a soloist at several chamber music festivals. Originally from the Washington D.C. area, Dr. Schaffer is now a resident of Auburn, and performs regularly with the Sinfonia Gulf Coast (FL).

MATT WOODLow Brass

Matthew Wood is Associate Professor of Low Brass at Auburn University. His duties include maintaining the trombone, euphonium, and tuba studios as well as conducting the trombone choir and tuba/euphonium ensemble. A native of Columbia, Missouri, Dr. Wood received both a BM (Summa Cum Laude) and MM from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a DMA from the University of Texas-Austin. Before moving to Auburn, Dr. Wood was an active performer, educator, and clinician in both the Austin and San Antonio areas. He performed with San Antonio-based BrassFX and the Austin City Brass as well as with the Austinbones trombone quartet. He also performed and recorded with several pop, rock, and Latin groups including Drew Smith and His Band.
